So if we disregard the rules then this would be my ideal roster,

Includes 80 characters, including the Mii Mage.

So what do you think of it?

Not a bad roster, except for a few I'm specifically opposed to. But that just comes down to taste. Although I have a question. Who is Yuuri? They look familiar, but I can't seem to find them via google.

Also, I do like the Arcade Bunny choice. I think he'd work as a great joke character ala Pichu.

Yuuri is the main protagonist of Fatal Frame, I thought it'd be nice to have a character to represent the horror genera.

Oh yeah I do remember that game! I definitely agree it would be neat to have some horror content in Smash, though it might push the boundaries of what fits into a nintendo product....

That's a whole other debate though

A while back ago, I said I'd do a cuts roster, so here it is.

Not shown is the Mii Magician.
Dr.Mario and Dark Pit become alts.
Everyone else who was cut becomes DLC later on.

Semi-Major change to my roster,

It's basically the same as before, however Bayonetta now has her Bayo 1 appearance as the main outfit rather then the one from the second game, as I feel it's the more iconic outfit of the two.

Overhauled my old roster to reflect my current thinking;
Personal SSB6 Roster.png

(Characters outlined in red are unlockables, characters outlined in green are alternate costumes).

General overview of the changes;
  • All clone characters from Smash 4 are made into alternate costumes of the character they were clones of, while retaining all their unique FX. Both movesets are melded together; ex. that Pit has the Upperdash Arm, but it's as powerful as the Electroshock Arm. Lucina gains all of Marth's attributes. Mario regains the Mario Tornado as his Down Special and is gifted Dr. Mario's power.

  • King K.Rool and Dixie Kong are added as newcomers. King K.Rool is a very adaptable fighter with the ability to zone out fighters and rush them down. Dixie Kong is a semi-clone of Diddy, but is much more air-focused.

  • Ganondorf is given a buff to his speed and recovery, with Wizard's Dropkick becoming his standard Down Special.

  • Ridley and Dark Samus are added as newcomers. Ridley is a powerful fighter with high speed and a great recovery, but is light for his size and relies on zoning out opponents with his long range. Dark Samus focuses much more on rushdown, with extremely powerful close-ranged attacks, but is weak at range and suffers from having laggy smashes.

  • Medusa is a semi-clone of Palutena, with more emphasis on playing on the offensive.

  • Wolf finally returns, and this time takes the Fox/Falco playstyle and heavily modifies it, focusing much more on high-damage offense over defense. His blaster now behaves like Zero Suit Samus, where blasts stun opponents. Wolf's Final Smash is changed to be an airstrike by the Star Wolf team.
  • Relatedly, Falco's Final Smash is similar to Zero-Suit Samus, in which he leaps into an Arwing and attacks from the screen.

  • Charizard is given a buff to his recovery and air speed, making him on par with Zero-Suit Samus.

  • Sceptile is added as a newcomer. Sceptile takes a focus on fast physical moves and powerful special attacks, and is sort of a middle ground between Charizard and Greninja. His Final Smash is turning into Mega Sceptile and unleashing a Solar Beam.

  • Tyrantrum is added as a newcomer. Tyrantrum sets the bar as the heaviest character in Smash, and also packs a heavy punch. His recovery is kind of weak, though, and so he's a bit easy to gimp. His Final Smash is Head Smash, which is devastatingly powerful when it connects, but like Critical Hit, will not stop untill Tyrantrum hits something.

  • Takamaru is added as a newcomer. Takamaru plays like a hybrid of Link and Marth, utilizing both long-ranged shurikens to dish out pain from a distance and swift sword swings for close combat. Like both of them, his recovery is lacklustre, but his quick attacks and ability to combo make him a dangerous foe. Takamaru's Final Smash involves him donning the cloak item from his game, making him invincible to enemy attacks while doubling his speed and damage.

  • Rayman is added as a third-party newcomer. Rayman is quick and decently strong, but his real strength is his range; because of his floating limbs, Rayman has a deceptively large melee range, and so can put on the pain from afar. His recovery is decent, as well. Rayman's Final Smash is him summoning Globox and Barbara to pummel anybody caught in his way.

  • Shantae is added as a third-party newcomer. Shantae's gameplay revolves around transformations; each of her Specials changes her into a different form, with their own stats and abilities. The Monkey form plays much like Diddy Kong, but lacks projectiles, the Elephant form is a heavyweight fighter with a lot of physical strength and the Harpy form is an aerial fighter with quick attacks. Because of this, she is very versatile, but requires practice to master. Her Final Smash involves Risky Boots attacking with her pirate ship from behind the stage, launching cannonballs that rain down onto the fighters.

  • The Inklings are used as a surrogate for the original Mii Gunner moveset, which recieves an overhaul. They focus on long-range battling and are heavily projectile-based, meaning characters with reflectors will be their biggest weakness. They're fast and can jump decently high. Specials consist of the various sub-weapons found in Splatoon, while the Final Smash is an Inkstrike.

The most expendable of the originals as well. Besides, the O12 was never a big factor to me anyways. I look at a character's importance overall, and Jiggly just doesn't hold up as well as she used to.
She does become DLC though, so not all hope is lost. :p
I'd say Ness is much more expendable than Jigglypuff.

I think I'm going to try this again.
:4mario: - Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, Rosalina, and Toad, and Geno.
:4drmario: - Dr. Mario (Luigified) and Dr. Luigi.
:4yoshi: - Yoshi and Kamek.
:4dk: - Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.
:4link: - Link, Zelda, Ganondorf (no longer a clone), Sheik, and Vaati.
:4kirby: - Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Bandanna Dee.
:4pikachu: - Pikachu, Charizard, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Lucario, and (insert newest popular Pokémon here).
:4fox:- Fox, Falco, and Wolf.
:4marth: - Marth, Ike, Roy, and (insert newest anime character here).
:4samus: - Samus, Zero Suit, and Rundas.
:4pit: - Pit, Palutena, Dark Pit (Luigified), and Pyrrhon.
:4falcon: - Captain Falcon.
:4rob: - R.O.B.
:4gaw: - G&W
:4littlemac: - Little Mac and Doc Louis.
:4ness: - Ness and Lucas.
:4olimar: - Olimar.
:4shulk: - Shulk.
:4villager: - Villager.
:4wario: - Wario and Waluigi.
:4wiifit: - Wii Fit Trainer.
:4mii: - Mii Gunner, Mii Swordfighter, Mii Brawler, and Mii Mage.
:4duckhunt: - Duck Hunt.
:4sonic: - Sonic and Silver.
:4megaman: - Mega Man and Proto Man.
:4ryu: - Ryu and M. Bison.
:4pacman: - Pac-Man.
Castlevania - Richter Belmont.
Golden Sun - Isaac.
69 total, 17 newcomers, 52 veterans, 8 third-parties, 8 cuts. I think that's fair.

That's arguable. Some people started with Bayonetta 2.
You realize the outfit is in both games, right? It is her most iconic outfit, there's no doubting it, some just prefer the Bayo 2 outfit over the Bayo 1 attire.

So, if you know people like the second outfit, why make the first default for no reason other than "it's iconic?"

More people prefer it too it seems.

And my reasoning isn't bad at all.

And why are you questioning my decision anyways?

Just doesn't make sense to me. It'd be like if Kirby's default was changed to his grey costume because that was the one he was first seen in.
Well the keyword is "iconic".
I mean, being iconic doesn't imply being good. Look at Sonic, he'll tell you everything.

You're completely misunderstanding what I mean Mario, it's about iconism, not about what came first... It's her most well known outfit so that's why it's like that.

And it's a cosmetic difference that doesn't even effect gameplay so I don't see what the big deal is.

I know what you mean, and I'm saying that the first costume being more iconic is arguable. I'm sure they would've made it the default in Smash if that were the case.

Not at all, it was probably made the default one to reflect on how Bayonetta 2 was a Wii U exclusive. Bayonetta 2 bombed, it wasn't as successful as the first game, so it being less iconic is out of the question.

Why you don't have Ice Climbers?
Because frankly I don't see much benefit in putting them in when A) they're a hassle to balance effectively, B) they're from a one-off obscure NES game that hasn't been touched since and C) there's plenty of characters that fill in their archetypes (Rosaluma for the double-fighter, Duck Hunt Duo, Takamaru, R.O.B and Mr. G&W for retro Nintendo fighters) already.

Maybe I'd have them as DLC, but to be honest they're low on the priority list because there's characters I feel should have been in or should return to the roster before them (Ridley, K.Rool, Wolf, Dixie) or characters that could be very interesting in design (Sceptile, Tyrantrum, Rayman, Shantae, Takamaru, Inkling) that I'd place before veterans.

They're the one character from Melee that I find no need to put back in ASAP. I get they have fans, but let's be honest; they're obscure and other characters already fill both archetypes they had.

Seems like a good roster - that Starman is from Pro Wrestling, right?

I don't like that you removed one of the original twelve, but Meowth seems like a decent replacement. You added a decent amount of new series, spread out additions between the returning ones pretty evenly, and brought back some of the major cuts (Ice Climbers' absence is noticeable, but definitely a fan of the fact that you brought back Snake!).

The only cuts that I noticed in there are the clone trio and Jigglypuff; seeing as I'm not a huge fan of rosters that cut a massive amount of characters or entire series, I'm okay with that for the most part. I don't like cutting characters myself, but I can see why you would remove them.

The only choice that I find odd is Lip; I don't really see how she would work as a fighting game character. Still, it's a really good roster in my opinion.
he also remove Miis

Well, I Knew This Picture Would Come In Handy.

My Very Own, Smash Bros. NX (Or Smash Bros. 5) Wishlist.
If I Had To Choose A Character, It Would Either Be Fawful Or Mike Tyson.
