First of all, I'm sorry if I unnecessarily made a new thread for this, or if this was discussed before.
But anyway, I think they may have already given us Brawl's starting roster. If you'll notice, the box art Nintendo 64's Japanese Smash Bros. game showed 8 characters. These 8 characters turned out to be the initial roster for the game.
History then repeated itself as the box art for Japan's Smash Bros. Melee included 14 characters, all of which made up the game's initial roster.
So if Brawl follows suit, i think we've been given the game's starting roster (assuming that the box art image on Japan's Dojo site is the final box art).
This means that there would initially be 11 characters in Brawl:
Mario, Kirby, Samus, Pit, Meta Knight, Picachu, Pokemon Trainer, Peach, Fox, Wario, and Link.
