Then, at the end of the poll, Sakurai makes some comments, saying that that top requested characters like Mewtwo, Peach, Wario, Koopa and Dedede were planned for SSB64 but they got problems. That's interesting for sure. It will be funny to know how pissed were the Wario fans after noticing that he didn't appeared in Melee, while Peach did. Lame.
This tells me two things:
1) SSB64 could been ssoooo much more awesome!
2) A lot of these characters we are expecting to get into Brawl likely will not (unless Sakurai is just pulling out all the stops). There were several characters who "were supposed to be in the original" but didn't even show up until two games later (i.e., Wario and yet to see Dedede)!!
It makes me kind of sad, too, because SSB64 could have had a lot better set of characters, and Melee, too, for that matter...I mean, they had characters who were supposed to get in the previous game and didn't, and then didn't get into Melee. And then they threw in a lot of clones at the end...it tells me they just flat-out ran out of time.
Maybe it just took them too long to transfer to the new engine...plus pretty much every character got a makeover to the new game. I suppose that part of it is a bit encouraging...it seems they are mostly keeping the movesets the same and the engine appears to be the same, too...so they can focus more on the additions this time. I really hope that Brawl is the "end all" of the Smash series. (not that I want it to be the last one, just that it would have the best of every world and have every aspect of the game be the best of the series...)
