Can anybody critique my overall gameplay for doubles in these videos. I am still learning how to truly play doubles since I got an official partner now >.<

I feel like I played a lil sloppy in some matches. So I'm looking for advice on what I could be doing better (In general) and how could I be assisting my partner better. Thanks in advanced <3

I haven't posted in a while, haven't been able to be as active in any majors recently. However I went to my first monthly in a while that was relatively stacked with most of the top players in the Ontario scene attending and managed to make a whole bunch of upsets that I never expected to. It's my best performance ever by far so I wanted to share the vods of the tourney! I snagged a whole bunch of time on stream so there are a good number of vods. Enjoy!

Looking at my matches...I feel like my Performance is extremely inconsistent. Some matches I play well and some matches I play really really badly (at least thats how I feel). I make way too many of the same mistakes too many times and I see that I'm taking a lot of unnecessary damage because of it...I really need to step my game up....

Used Palutena on stream but not too noteworthy

The other Dutch Palutena was on Gooky Goon Squad at least once at a big national Saturday, I'll post the vid when it's up.
Nice play! Your palutena is really clean. Also not sure if you were just a little lucky but I'm assuming you just had this well thought out -- your choices on how to followup your dthrow, whether to go for the guaranteed kills or to maximize damage were really good. Whether to keep running so you can crossup fsmash / jump upair to catch a potential jump, whether they're high enough % and all you need is to jump at them and wait for the airdodge and catch them with upair, whether to punish him DI'ing up out of dthrow by following up with a nair or upsmash (and potentially charging if they airdodge) or instead just wait on the ground and regrab them when he tries to land or if he airdodges you can jab -> regrab -> combo for maximum damage (which you did, though he managed to Up B between the jab and regrab).

Again not sure to what degree you intentionally did these things or you were just sort of doing what felt right and mixing things up, but it's gotten me thinking on new levels of how to punish harder!

Im pretty bad at this game lol
Not bad! Just some mistakes that I'm sure you won't make anymore (slight mispacings, awk situations where your back is facing him and you try to bair but miss due to fall speeds, running into dsmash). Nice upsmash at the end and barely killing lol.

Also is this the new weekly series in chicago?

I'm fairly certain he just didn't or barely DId and he seemed to always airdodge, I was amazed at first so was waiting for the mix-up but it didn't really arrive LOL Then I Ijust took what I could get.

Here's some Ayoub (with me on commentary ), there will be some new sets of him when Geeky Goon Squad gets to uploading

Whaaaa?!

Edit: Hey, can anyone critique my plays? I played 3 matches against a Mario named Nolram, and the titles are 'Match 1/3' and so on. the videos were too long to upload to YouTube, so I uploaded them to Share instead. I don't think it's too hard to do, but no one ever gives me any feedback...

Somehow, I placed 4th at Rebirth VI (Dexter, MI) out of 138. Chicago didn't attend but there were ~30 Ohio players.

This event was crazy. Tons of upsets. I suddenly outperformed many PR'd players who are still better than me. Partly it's due to me beating Loe1 (2-0!) in R1, thus "taking" his very valuable 3rd seed in the overall Top 32 Bracket. It wasn't streamed unfortunately since everyone (me included) expected to get bopped hard by him.

Even so, I feel like I leveled up after realizing a couple small things and working on the timing on short hop FF fairs and also getting kills with upsmashing getups. Looking back though, there's so many opportunities I missed and things (many of them simple) that I can improve on! I do feel now more than ever that it really is the smallest things that can cause the biggest changes in your play. Fixing one or two small things can lead to a few less mistakes per game, which can result in the difference of a few neutral exchanges worth of %.

I wanna thank everyone who contributed to this Palutena board and especially Aerolink, TLTC, and Ice Ninja whose videos I've studied a ton. Even Prince Ramen, D1, and Solkiskey (Soru). I had an amazing time, probably one of the best days of my life and one of my proudest achievements (drilling to the heavens!!!).

And I want to encourage everyone, if there's something you really want... NEVER give up! There's no such thing as talent. Anyone can improve so long as they learn how to, work hard, and know when to find for help. When I first started Smash 4 I was getting double elim'd and drowning in pools, but then I started slowly lasting 1 more round every few months. I finally broke top 8 at a weekly recently and now I've gotten 4th at a Midwest Regional!

Vids listed roughly in order of quality / enjoyment xD

Really late to ask this: can you guys help me find custom Palutena matches other than Aerolink and Evo matches? I really need them for a project and I can't think of or find any others besides those.

Now if someone could help me find this I will be surprised: a custom Palutena tournament match AFTER lightweight was patched. Really not expecting anyone to find one like that but it would be really helpful.

The custom set does not matter, it just has to be different specials. There's enough videos of Aerolink's Palutena using the customs I'm most interested in anyway. Thank you for your help.

Didn't see anyone post this, so... DEEEEEEEESTRUCTION man's (D1's) Palutena Palutena vs. DC's Lucina: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG2c_aRDXGI. What do you think of D1's Pally considering we don't really get to see him play often.
Overall I'd say pretty decent. Maybe using autoreticle too close and a little too much, but nice empty hops and spacing with fairs and bairs. Doesn't seem to over extend and plays it safe. I would have liked to see him try to land dair more on DC some how but hitting that 1 frame is hard alone and trying to hit Marth's and Lucina's up B makes it even harder. Every Palutena player needs to practicing on hitting dair. Can land early kills and win games. I was down 80% once on a Falcon and got a fair to dair on him and won. Granted Falcon's up b is one of the easier ones to hit with dair, but still doesn't change the fact that about every Palutena player could work on landing dair.

I liked his use of reflect in some situations, but other times I think he could have done a better option.

The change up from using fairs and bairs was nice. I think fair is a contender for her best move. Make it safe on shield when done while landing, if close enough to the ground, and I will 100% say that is her best move. I actually don't know about Palutena's frame data on shield, but from experience I can't seem to do fair low enough for it to be safe on shield. Fair shifts her hurt box to a more flat level and I've used that to get in on a Mario throwing fire balls before. Hurt box shifting is something I really want to look into more, but I don't know where to find data on that. Bair is invincible and I like how he was hitting it on landing to reduce landing lag some. Shifting between one of, if not the best, poke tool in the game to an invincible move is a huge positive for Palutena and D1 did it pretty well.

Something I like to do with Peach and I saw D1 do it once or twice, for the little bit I just re-watched, is just run past a shielding opponent and do nothing to them. It probably depends on the player but that could mess with someone's head, and that was more of a fun match so I don't think DC took the most attention to it, not saying DC wasn't trying or anything, but do you try your hardest in a friendly? Sm4sh is definitely a more mental game than a tech skill game like melee, and the little things that you can do to mess with your opponent can definitely make a big difference in a match.

Now something I would have done that was good that D1 didn't do was a backwards down taunt pause. After DC did taunt pause, the moment I landed a kill on him in a stylish way, I would have down a backwards down taunt. It was a good thing D1 didn't do this because the lady does not need to lower herself to the level of low tier waifus. DC's taunt and D1 not taunting and pausing just further proves that the Goddess of Light is better than a swordsman who's personality is about as flat as her chest.

*Note* I made the part about Lucina's personalty a donation message and almost got Gimr to read it on stream because it was around 12 or 1 am but he caught himself last minute. So I went to Twitter and told DC what I said there instead. *End Note*

I would have liked to see some more ledge cancel warps, but maybe next time. Again, overall a strong showing of how Palutena should be played, to some extent. There were a few times I would have liked to see a little more to his follow up game instead of going back into the shell, as I call it, but safety works with Palutena. I just think Palutena players as a whole really need to work on the transition of going in and out of the turtle shell. Honestly every character can go into a turtle shell, but I don't think any other character can be as effective inside their shells as Palutena can. Fair, probably the best poke tool in the game, and bair, an invincible aerial with low landing lag, are the 2 moves she'll use the most while in her shell. It's up to the player to realize once the poke connects if they should come out and go on the offensive, and I think D1 decided to stay in the shell when there were opportunities to be had. Palutena struggles with kills sometimes and everything she can do, from spacing with swag walking to ledge canceling warp into a dair, no matter how small it may seem is necessary for her to take advantage of. Now I'm talking character mastery for a game that has only been out for about a year, but I want to express the importance of the little things that some of you other Palutena mains might consider useless. Everything has a use and it is our job to find it and share it with everyone here. I'm not the best Palutena by any means, but you can be damn sure I want to be, and if that means practicing tech that is deemed useless then I will do it. Kinda got away from the match analysis there, but I just wanted to get that out there because I really want to see Palutena grow as a Character and it has to be a community effort. Not saying I'm the only one who practices tech or does anything for the Palutena community (Please do not take it that way), but it feels sometimes that we're lacking as a group to help advance our character that we love to play. Maybe it's the lack of Palutena players or maybe most of you just don't have as much free time to come here and chat, but SERIOUSLY WE DON'T HAVE A THREAD DEDICATED TO JUST PALUTENA TECH AND INSTEAD WE TALK ABOUT HER TECHS IN 5 DIFFERENT ****ING THREADS OR SOMEONE MAKES A NEW THREAD EVERY TIME A NEW TECH IS DISCOVERED BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE A PLACE TO TALK ABOUT JUST TECH! I will admit I did say I would make a thread dedicated to talking about Palutena's tech, and instead I got caught up in trying to make an argument for custom Paltuena without thinking fully of the uses of default Palutena, which I've come to the conclusion that I still want counter replaced with lightweight but I'm fine with all other specials. I'm going to put that argument on the back burner for now and actually try to make a thread where we can just talk about tech and how to apply it to Palutena's play style. Now I do have assignments for school due soon so that thread may not be up for awhile, but I will work on it in my spare time.

Ok wow I think my little rant was longer than my match analysis of D1's Palutena. Well I'll probably copy this over to the social thread too so more of you can see it. Sorry if it comes off as rude and that I went on a long tangent, but maybe it was
necessary.

Nice job against Sonic, you were able to keep him in check with Jab 1 really well. You had great patience for the Up-Smash KO, but with his DI it seemed like Up-Air would've combo'd, which is the guaranteed KO option.

Against Link it seemed like you struggled at times because he was able to hold stage control for most of the match. He was able to sit back and punish your options out of shield without much risk of being punished too hard for anything himself. When you were at higher percents you became more defensive, and you were quicker to roll/spot-dodge or grab, which let him secure 2 KOs throughout the match. I'd just recommend playing with more stage behind you. It'll let you set up your neutral game, and give you the room to use defensive options if necessary.

Good games!

Good basics, follow ups, and combos. Maybe work on opponent character awareness more. You seemed to miss space some moves when fighting that link that netted him a good punish or you didn't react in the most optimal way, but nerves and possible MU inexperience play a roll in that that a replay can't show. Work on the punish game as well. You seemed to panic after a smash attack was thrown out or something and missed some good punishes. Basically everything Dan-O said. I think work on what Dan_O said and you'll be able to show off more since it looked like you were constantly in a bad situation and didn't know how to react.

The basics work great with Palutena, but to get to the next level you'll need some tech. Which is why I share this with you. Right now it's small, but we have to talk to get it to grow. Now there was one point where you did empty hops vs the sonic and the sonic grabbed you because it looked like you were fishing for a bair. Bair works wonders for sliding pivots. It's invincible so why challenge it, sit in shield where it's safe. Except it's not safe with empty hop sliding pivot grab. You could have grabbed the sonic and avoided him grabbing you. That's one situation and there were probably a few others I missed or other situations to apply other techs to, but I don't know all uses a tech posses because there needs to be more discussion. I'm not the most creative on my own, but have someone tell me a small idea and I can just blow it out of proportion from what it was (usually).

I really liked the walking. Walking is just so good with Palutena and lets you slow down and think more.

A very good set of Aerolink vs Ryo

But i'm sad that he lost the 2nd match though :( at 10:41 Ryo was charging his f-smash. He could've used Counter to kill him or Warp behind him then f-smash him back, if it wouldn't kill, he still gained a good stage position.

Hey all, I participated in the Smash 4 Collegiate crew battles at Tipped Off 11 on Smash Studios' stream. I was waiting for the matches to be uploaded to YouTube, but since it's been a whole month I've given up. So here's the twitch VOD:
http://www.twitch.tv/smashstudios/v/24701911
I come in at the 53 minute mark, the 1:30:00 mark, and at 2:00:00 where I get destroyed by Player 1 lol. Comments, tips, and constructive criticism are all appreciated!

Amazing spacing and good patience. Work on reacting more to what the opponent does rather than predicting and jumping the gun. There was one point where you did down throw and tried to read an air dodge but the opponent jumped away. You didn't get punished too hard, but it could be worse next time. During the Lucario match I think you could have gotten away with a counter once or twice. I myself am not accustomed to using counter but when you see an opponent charging a smash right in front of you, you should be able to get a counter off. It's a good mix up option and shouldn't be relied on too much.

Work on keeping the same play style when you're getting camped. The rosa match you seemed to get annoyed, but who wouldn't be when rosa is just rolling on the stage?

I think you should have used reflect a little more in the diddy match. Player 1 was using a lot of bananas. You should also work on your item game; it seemed you didn't quite know what to do with the banana if you got it or you would throw it instantly. Diddy is a hard MU for diddy I think.

These are a couple old videos from various events but they are all pretty entertaining.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJsK4Ctr2UY - vs Zenyou (Mario) - Video from a crew battle where we ended up with 3 stocks left on both sides.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk6HfP8wsCk - vs Z (Pikachu) - Probably the best ive ever played so far.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEyXihD6oOg - vs Ito (Metaknight) - Ito is really really good. I tend to reach for kills a bit too much and needed to play more patient

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REfWkaasQyg - vs Angbad (Olimar) - NEVER LET OLIMAR GO TO LYLAT THIS IS A PSA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JiTYtzYDPI - vs Oki (Metaknight) - Metaknights have a tendancy to try to jump away from everything, this is something that can be exploited.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6fwwgJ6HKM - vs Nicko (Marth) - This is more of a battle of who reads who and its extremely neutral focused.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYdpTO7n0_w - vs Stark (Ike) - Similar to Marth, it becomes really neutral focused.

Any comments or advice would be appreciated and I hope people enjoy them.

I'm not really a Palutena user, but not too long ago, I was able to make a 505 chain with her while playing Trophy Rush.
