Y'know, I like seeing you play Palutena, Fuj, even if I think she's garbage tier. (less so with customs.) I enjoy how you put some good focus on her fundamental (only few good) moves. (Especially jab) instead of getting spammy with ha customs, which could end up not being the norm anyways.Me vs Nicole

I'm prepared for the Palutena boards to become a ghost town once customs stop being trendy.
If this is directed at my video then thanks.Awesome read at 5:51
Makes me believe that the Palutena x Luigi MU is even, the edgeguarding is great, all Palutena's KO options works against him and I think Luigi is relatively light.
Omg sis I feel your pain, this match up is awful.
1) Awesome matches! Great to see someone putting in werk with Palutena's default moveset and still getting results.VODS from two major tourneys I attended, Enthusiast Gaming Live (EGL) and Get On My Level 2015 (GOML 2015), were just recently uploaded so I thought I'd share my matches!
Nicely done. Congrats on making it to loser's quarters in your debut!Hey everyone, I've been practicing my Palutena for a while and consider her my solo main.
Here's my loser's quarters set from her tournament debut at a local bi-weekly:

Any comments, suggestions, and tips are appreciated! (Sorry about that last SD, I lost my double jump in the Slash Claw )
I only used it in the Villager match up and the Luigi match up. For Villager it felt better to have reflect since trip seed stopped my super speed but as for Luigi, still not sure if Super speed or reflect is better. I kept getting stuffed by fireballs so I went to reflect. Whenever I did my normal spacing game against Poke's Luigi, I tended to do better.@ Ice Ninja love your videos but one question:
What is this "Reflect" nonsense?????????? There's this move called Super Speed I don't know if youve heard of it
Good thinking VS Villager. I would say that's pretty optimal actually.I only used it in the Villager match up and the Luigi match up. Yeah its true, there are still ways around fireball without reflect but I lose a lot of combo potential and ways to recover without super speed. Right now the only Luigi I have trouble with in my region is Poke since he is one of top players here so it may be more a mental block than whether super speed or reflect is better. Still needs testing though but next time I might try super speed again.Good thinking VS Villager. I would say that's pretty optimal actually.
VS Luigi I would go SS. Fireballs are annoying as all hell, so I completely understand. You lose some damage output when you don't go SS though. Since it gives you that reach to make a hit you otherwise couldn't land. I could see a slower, more defensive Palu being successful with Reflect as well. Though I wonder if that's suboptimal.
Thanks so much for the advice! I've been working with a friend of mine on refining my neutral and playing patiently. I'll be sure to post more matches when I'm back in the tournament scene come fall.Nicely done. Congrats on making it to loser's quarters in your debut!
Overall I felt your play was really good. You've got your spacing down pretty well for the most part and I really liked your empty jump grab mixes up as well. Main thing I noticed was that at some points you ended up throwing a lot of aerials too much and you got punished for it. At some points you did some full hop bairs that missed and Megaman got some punishes out of them.
You also ended up getting hit by quite a few Megaman bairs when that happened. First time you got KO'd Megaman was about to land and you tried to hit him with a bair but his bair came out first instead. Sometimes when they are in about to land it might be good to be a bit more patient, either weave out of their range to be safe or try to shield. As long as you mix it up a bit so your opponent never knows if you're going to smack them with an aerial or bait out one their moves.
Personally, I hope you're joking about all this. Otherwise, you're being kind of a git. Seriously, who gets mad over this?Mew2King (Palutena 1122) vs Scatt (Megaman)
Wow. Does M2K think he can just pick up Palutena and score an easy automatic janky win with Lightweight? Jesus Christ, I respect pros with the "play 2 win" mentality but his Palutena representation was pathetic
Do I even have to point out how amateur he was? He LITERALLY never jabbed at all (So what if Palutena's grab is 1 frame faster than her frame 8 jab? That's why you don't go for jabs right? LOL what a delusional mess you are Jason. You lost it). All he did was roll around (literally For Glory style) trying to get a grab. He ended up getting 2 stocked and SDing cuz he obviously doesn't know **** about Palutena and recovered too low with Jump Glide. So ****ing insulting.
LOL. Dude M2K. Palutena is not easy. She's intricate, super technical, and mechanically demanding. Seriously man, I was super hype when I heard you were interested in custom Palutena cuz a professional talented player joining to evolve Palutena's meta is ALWAYS welcome, but stick with Rosalina if you want easy wins.
Hey M2k if you're ever reading this, let's go couple Palutena dittos rounds! Make sure it's on stream too so everyone can see your Palutena and YOU YOURSELF are a joke. Seriously, man. I lost total respect to you M2K. You are taking this "play 2 win" mentality beyond reason. You are trying to find the easiest most broken character for you to abuse for you to get easy wins but guess what bro? Some people are actually dedicated to their character and the game Smash 4 itself. You obviously are trying to find the easiest route in an unacceptably insulting manner that's not just insulting for Palutena mains but for the entire Smash 4. I'll make your life easier for you. You should main Sheik. She's the best character in the game but SORRY you actually have to invest time and effort to be good with her! But yeah, I think you have the right idea choosing Rosalina if Sheik is too much work for you.
Edit: How do I tag people? I want to make sure M2K definitely reads this.
I went to fire and dice tournament and people gave me so much **** for playing Palutena. People think she's an easy automatic win. I put a lot of time and effort to be good with her. She requires skill and deserves respect. I main Pikachu as well and pikachus custom is honestly just flat out broken and easy to win with. How hard is it to side b heavy skull bash on an already super good character? But for some reason people were fine with Pikachu but ****ing hated custom Palutena thinking she's an easy janky automatic win requiring no skill. Sorry but watching Jason thinking he can exploit Palutena and failing terribly just hit the wrong spot for me.Personally, I hope you're joking about all this. Otherwise, you're being kind of a git. Seriously, who gets mad over this?
Sorry to hear that. Sounds like those people at the tournament just don't like Palutena in general (fine with Pikachu, you said?). I don't know. Either way, I don't see how that justifies you bashing on M2K for using Palutena and not doing very well with her. You can't expect everyone that uses Palutena to be AeroLink, you know.I went to fire and dice tournament and people gave me so much **** for playing Palutena. lol I was pretty harsh huh? But you have to admit M2K's Palutena was pure garbage.Sorry to hear that. Personally, I've seen worse.lol I was pretty harsh huh? But you have to admit M2K's Palutena was pure garbage.
I never said he wasn't.Aerolink is exceptional and his success with the character should be respected!
Well if they think Palutena is a go-to character for winning tournaments they're going to find out the hard way that she isn't anyway.I really don't expect Palutena players to be as good as Aerolink, but I hope to God people don't actually expect Palutena is a free easy cheap way to win. The amount of skill Palutena demands is no joke. You do not get results with Palutena through jank.
If someone gave me grief for playing Palutena in a customs tournament i'd just be like "yo i don't need these customs i'll fite you default idc"I went to fire and dice tournament and people gave me so much **** for playing Palutena. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the single most hysterical thing I have read today. If someone gave me grief for playing Palutena in a customs tournament i'd just be like "yo i don't need these customs i'll fite you default idc"
also if i ever got that one guy who implied i play palutena because she's a hot waifu or whatever i'd be like
do you see that lightbulb over there
you can thank the god of light for that show some respect
edit: wait, i thought we were in the social thread... this is getting off topic lol, more videos please!
1. Low Tier City 3, which is my region's national/regional tournament, will be using the default ruleset; this means Shockwave tournaments will be switching back to default in preparation for the upcoming big tournament as well as other tournaments such as Smash Con/Paragon/EGL, etc. It's safe to say customs will be gone on a national scale after EVO; almost every top player (as well as other players) prefers default, and I believe it's an effort to finally have a general, unified ruleset so that other international players, such as players in Japan who play under the default ruleset, can compete in a familiar environment. This past Shockwave was the last one for customs, so winning this meant a lot to me.Hey AeroLink, I've got a few questions for you, if you don't mind.
1. What exactly is the situation with customs at Shockwave? Are they gone for good, or will they come back if they have favorable results at Evo?
2. Who are you going to use if customs are gone for good? As much as I love Palutena, even I can't deny that she simply isn't a very good character without customs. Will you continue to use her, or switch to someone else?
3. Why do you use Autoreticle rather than Explosive Flame? I'll be the first to admit that I'm not nearly as good of a player as you, but in my experience Explosive Flame is almost always more useful.
Thanks for your time.
I used to love watching all your games, but honestly there's dozens of games I've missed over the last few months since I was really busy with school and also because my region uses default, so while watching your games was still useful, they were much less so than previously. (I still watched the tourny's final rounds live though!).1. 2. I will continue to play Palutena in default. I still haven't figured out exactly what I will end up doing, but I know atm, Palutena is my best character by far (my other characters are so underdeveloped compared to her) and I'll see how I perform in the coming weeks following EVO. I may have to pick a secondary, but it's not really my style to do so; I'm basically a character-specialist type of player. I can hope that Palutena gets significant buffs in future patches. We'll see, but for now, the simple answer is yes, I will continue to use Palutena.
3. I've used Auto Reticle over Explosive Flame due to it having more poking range, and it has less startup and cooldown; also it can be used for ground-lock setups. It's only been recently that I started to incorporate Explosive Flame for playing against certain MUs and player playstyles. In my on-stream matches for this past Shockwave, I used Explosive Flame because I played against Ness who can heal off of Auto Reticle, and Diddy, to pressure him on the ledge or hiding behind or with a banana peel, without having to approach him since it can put me in a bad situation in his favor. The rest of my matches, which were offstream, I used Auto Reticle. At this point, I will alternate between the two, because I think
Auto Reticle does better vs. the fast characters that can avoid Explosive Flame (For example, I use Auto Reticle vs. Sheik; I can time a short-hop or full-hop Auto Reticle just as Sheik releases her needles), aerial-based characters, and big characters by zoning them out briefly with precise timing. If Explosive Flame wasn't so laggy compared to Auto Reticle, I'd be using it for every match.
