I am starting to realize that while the speed and ferocity of my once melee samus is gone, samus is still going to be my main. I was thinking about switching but after watching countless videos and spending many hours training that samus is still my girl. any thoughts? anyone thinking about switching turned away? Long live the bair!!!!

I never thought of even turning away from awesome Samus. However, I HAVE been training on Zamus and the up+down+up taunt transformation to change from Samus to Zamus during gameplay... It's worked wonders w/ strategies so far, in case the opponent is outmatching my Samus :D

I already have turned away. I'm waiting for someone to have success with her because all this theory talk on how amazing she is isn't cutting it for me. I can see and feel how bad she is so I can't go back until someone proves me otherwise.

My main is Samus and I was planing to switch it to Jigglypuff beacuse I mastered his/her rest move, so I ending up not switching beacuse the rest move is a bit too risky..... and thats not good in tournaments.

What? Na, I don't think she's been docked in terms of speed or ferocity, the only problem people seem to be having is not having a KO move that KO's at like 100%.

So all we gotta do is pull out some tourney wins and you'll jump back aboard?

Well, I've had my moments in thinking that it would be best if I changed my main from Samus to someone else. She felt bulky and slow. My brother would beat me with Ness, and I thought, Man, Samus was definitely nerfed! However, I did not give up on Samus, and since then, I've been able to get back at my brother.

Anyway, I've got a game to catch. That is, a Team Battle on Brawl.

Has Hugs not seen any of the Tudor or Hylian videos? Both of them have very good samus videos up that clearly show that used right she is a beast. You have to be a bit more calculated in Brawl because she is somewhat slower, but it's compensated for by easy combo ability and a fair number of KO moves.

Bleh, I'm having trouble holding onto what my Samus has become myself. Now that I'm playing a lot more 1v1s with her, I can't seem to approach fast opponents, I can play fine with Lucas, but when I was playing Samus vs. Pit yesterday, I practically found mysely camping because I couldn't keep up with Pit's speed. Samus is currently my secondary character, and I might turn away because I almost feel as though I'm not getting better with her, and as I play better people it's only showing me that I'm a) bad with her and b) unable to keep up with approaches.

P.S. I know that zairs are a great approach but for some reason I have a bit of trouble landing them, I'm sure my game will improve significantly if I can get these down, but other than that I'm out of ideas. :[

The best way to stop a fast opponent is to use your Homing Missiles. Since they move slow, it will force your opponent to slow down as well, since he or she must shield, dodge, roll, or anything else, unless he or she wants to get hit. The shield, dodge, and roll animation take time before your opponent makes another attack. In this case, it leaves your opponent open.

Let's assume that you are playing as Samus, and your opponent is Pit. He decides to roll behind you. What can you do to solve this problem? You can press Down+A to sweep. If Pit rolls behind you, he'll still get hit since the sweep covers both sides. You can also hit him with Up+A since Samus moves her arm from one direction to another. Let's return to shielding. If Pit decides to use his Mirror Shield, you can use your Homing Missiles, since they will fly at him. When Pit does this, he is left open. So, you can fire two Homing Missiles and quickly run up to him, jump and use your dair.

There are various tactics that you can use with Samus. You just need to know your opponent's weakness and your character's strengths. Also, on a tip for using Samus' zair, I recommend using a dodge+A, instead of Z. It allows you to be invincible momentarily, and you can then strike back at your opponent.

Since the game is still in it's early stages, and we don't know how 'good' either player in those video's really is we can't just assume that because someone destroyed their friends constantly with samus that she is a beast.

As far as I'm concerned you can be beast with any character, if you play them perfectly, and are in your opponents head. But until we get some tourney rankings out we won't know how good Hylian or Tudor is, and we can't make assumptions based off of them at the moment.

I'm not saying this to **** on Tudor because he is my friend, but I am just giving facts to **** on samus, because she isn't very good.

But why R.O.B.? What a hideous character, only matched by G&W in terms of uninspired introductions into the Smash series.

Pick a prettier, well-placing character, imo ;p.

Meh, I picked samus for 2 reasons.

I liked her games and I liked her style.

In brawl, I don't like her style. I still like her games, but that is irrelevant in Brawl.

I like ROB's style, he plays like Melee Samus to me. I know he's a joke and should not be in the game, but that's not important now that he's already in it. I enjoy the way he plays, so I am a ROB main now.

Couldn't you at least have mained Zero Suit Samus?
I personally sub her and use her in matchups that are too disadvantageous for Samus, i.e. Meta Knight. ZSS can rip Meta Knight up sometimes. Left-field dsmash ftw.

He has no obligation to remain with Samus in any form...if he enjoys playing ROB then let him do so...if he enjoyed playing Zamus, then I'm sure he would have done so...

Agreed, it's not like Hugs playing ROB is going to affect you in any way...unless you go to a tournament and play against him, at which point he will beat you with ROB instead of Samus :p

Me though, i made a vow to play Samus, no matter how bad/good she would be. and i am happy with the results, going toe-to-toe with Wobbles, Taj, B-stick, and many other people.

More power to ya hugs, you got at least one person who respects you for playing who you like.
Here's hoping we get a match or two in at AZ oneTwo.

I was really just joking with him, which I'm sure he probably understood. I could give a crap who Hugs uses, it doesn't make a bit of difference to me.

I completely missed this post o.O

HugS is right (of course), samus still sucks until she starts placing in tournaments. As for a month ago, i had just started playing samus at that tourney and decided i wont quit on her, then i messed with her for a week and started uploading vids.

I feel like my samus will place at the next tourney i go to (az one/two step), so i'll try my best not to let Hugo down, even though i was never really known for placing in singles tourneys =/

(Rant inbound)Im disgusted with Samus in brawl. Not Zero suit though(ill get to her later). All
I played was samus in melee. And this new version makes me wanna cry.
Some reasons

1. charge shot, charge shot, CHARGE SHOT!! It was the core of samus strategy! Have it charged, and play mindgames with the opponent, making them always think about samus's strongest move. This game however....I blasted a zelda, full charge, on Final dest, 200%, didnt die. :dizzy:. With this move embodying suck, enemies no longer need to worry about being hit with this attack.
2.Power missiles. Another nerfed move. No longer go across the stage
3.down-smash isnt as good
4.pretty much no kill moves anymore except side smash and down tilt.
5.N-air nerfed

Good things about Samus(She doesnt COMPLETELY suck)
1. z air. Quick, fast move
2. Down tilt is still amazing
3. f-air seems to be slightly beefed
4.you can go farther sideways in recovery with down b
5. Zero suit Samus :D

ZERO SUIT SAMUS.
Ironically, Samus doesnt suck without her armor. Fan service if you ask me, but whatever, shes a good fighter.

Down B kick has as much knockback as samus b move from melee
Fast
You can chain her down smash.
side-b is a good kill move.
Looks better without armor(durr)

However...
b move is total suck
light(no suprise)
throw is practically useless, because if you miss, your wide open.
due to crappy B move, no projectiles.

In the end, Samus hit the drain(or at least her armor did).
Zero suit is currently a secondary character of mine though, mains being Fox and MK.

I' m a little disappointed in her transition, particularly the massive nerfing of her charge beam and N-air since I now have to reconsider my tactics to the less abundant options available to me. But so long as I can continually kick the ***** of my friends playing her (and they usually exploit weaknesses pretty efficiently), I'll keep playing her and trying to learn all the changes made to her across the SSB series.

I fight against nothing but Samus. I initially felt Samus sucked completely but Jasona has taught me different. I think of her now as a tournament caliber character in the sense Pikachu was in Melee. They'll put up a fight and annoy you from time-to-time but the results are almost always the same.

But yeah, Samus can almost out spam my Pit. That's impressive in and of itself.

the first brawl tournament i went to i got knocked out second round. it may be that samus sucks, but i feel that my loss was more my fault than samus. i still have the same problem that i had in melee, i don't think and i act impulsively. so i don't think i'll be able to show anyone that samus is a good char anytime soon

In the end it doesnt matter what character you play against , its the skill of the opponent that matters.

You need to play every game perfectly with samus to rank in tourneys... i jut learned that from the last tourney, ended up getting knocked out by a snake at the PnT opening in las vegas, got 25th out of 88... but then again vegas took first and third and more in the top ten in that cali tourney Hugs was talking about...

People always say that, but it doesn't seem very true. The skill gap has to be signifigantly greater for a Samus player to win than it would be for a Pit or Meta Knight main. :(

I will admit MK is better. In fact, I main MK and Fox. However, I got owned by a luigi player one time with mk. And Mk is pretty much a luigi counter.

I am having a tournament with 20-30 people coming up this Saturday and plan on using my samus. Samus is a good character, but is definitely at a disadvantage. Samus player more than anyone else have to be adept at anticipating their opponents moves. It'll take some time but with enough practice Samus can beat anyone. I haven't played a single person who I haven't been able to beat with Samus. Granted, sometimes it takes a while before I catch on to a new strategy but with every new person and character played I am forced to develop new strategy and perceptions. I think the longer the game is out, the more you will see come out of samus.

Hylian stays away from Samus at tournies, I think. I'm pretty sure he uses Ice Climbers and G&W.
