So, I feel like I have signed a newsletter for this Story Mode or something, seeing as I always get noticed by HR when the new chapter's up - in this case even by eMail as SWF was down.

Anyway, comments! You know you want them from me.

This thing is so full of dramatic and literal skills... After this chapter, I wish you were the writer of the actual SSE, as your ideas are really great, and you make it, even with the lack of (many) dialogue so easy to give the characters the personality you want them to have.

I love how you built in some of the humorous scenes into this very serious chapter, like Charley's Ghost reading the newspapers while having an ectoplasmic dump, or the "running gag" of Robotnik playing Metroid on his DS before both attacks.

I also think having Wily trying to get a spot in Black Doom's army and trying to prove it with an attack was quite well made. The part with the villains being united with the heroes to fight Wily's robots and especially the part with Robotnik being all alone with fighting Wily himself was neat.

And you know what - you have really a gripe of poetry. You're as the only one I've read a Story Mode of able to actually bring emotions to the reader so well, that they are touched by it, too. Your descriptions of the prisoners and their depression about their fate was sheer brilliance, it made me feel depressed and sad, too.

I guess that's all I have to say.

I even VMd Warlord when I was about to post it since I managed to catch him online at the time. Do you really think I'm going to leave my two most dedicated readers in the dark? :bee:

I openly admit to wanting comments from people. But yes, again, yours and Warlord's have a special place for me. :bee:

You've given more than satisfactory ammount of commentary. Its comments like these that make the long hours of torture I put myself through to make this thing come together worth it.:)

I read the updated part of it this this morning, and I thought it was very good.
I like your writing style, as it is funny at times, and deadly serious at others, and that is fantastic.

I am sincerely enjoying every minute of this SM, and this is easily one of my favourites, so well done :)

My favourite part of that chapter- escaping whilst the Mission Impossible theme plays
The best part- all of it.

You included the Joker without me even requesting him! And you gave him like the best role ever! :bee: I loved the Grand Theft Smash Bros level, that was utterly brilliant. You're tempting me so badly to rip that off in my SM, but I still have another plan. . .Although I may just give more elaboration to your idea and put it in anyway. Anyway, the Joker was perfectly in character throughout the chapter, I absolutely loved what you did with him.

Zazu joining up with Joker so willingly and him getting the bird out instead of blowing it up was a bit awkward, but then again I had Zazu come with Jafar rather willingly in my own SM, so I can't really say anything about that, now can I?:p

I liked the casino setting with Daroach and that you actually made use of the Mysterious Warrior, and the various Nack/Guntz scenes. I loved the bit about the intentional plot hole. . .At least you comically admit it rather then trying to make sense of something making none.

*Still wonders when the Colonel will go berserk*

In any case, I loved this chapter, particularly due to the Joker, albeit nothing can beat the sheer epicness that was chapter 5. Best chapter ever right there.:bee:

The Joker was probably my favorite part of writing this chapter.:bee: I had to force myself to give him those one-liners to bring out his personality, so I'm glad to see it turned out well.

I guess for Zasu, Joker wanted to be a pirate. Argh!

lol, the plot hole thing originally came about because I had no idea how to explain Guntz getting back his bike, so I just said "Screw it!" Glad to see it turned out to be a good thing:bee:

Finally I got myself to read it! :bee:

It didn't disappoint at all. I love the level designs, especially the one with Joker blowing up Mute City, and the one with Hexxus collecting oil for his body. Very unique.

The characterization was insanely good, I especially love how Guntz and Nack are being like they were partners since ever and Joker's role was great too, I chuckled when he freed Zazu and the line with the withdrawal was splendid, too.

I nearly pissed my pants from laughing because of the plothole. So good.

I have only one little complaint: He's named Don GenIe. ;P

You even read it without me having to remind you.:bee:

Yays, 3/3 commentators liked the Joker level, and I'm happy someone mentioned the Hexxus level for once.

Glad you (still) like my portrayel of Guntz. I was slightly worried that I was having him be too friendly towards Nack, so it's a relief you approve. And everyone loves the plothole.:bee:

*goes to fix typos*

Much thanks for getting around to read it. Especially considering the circumstances as I'm writing this, it means a lot to me.

So, I'm still the first one to comment, huh?

Uhm. Okay, then.

Yet another great chapter. I loved the stage with Mach Rider chasing after Nack and Guntz, reminds me a bit of the end of my Chapter 4 with Eggman escaping the factory. Very neatly done.

The "No johns" thing from Wheelie was just epic. And Guntz and Nack getting totally owned by Captain Falcon was awful to read. It already hurt imagining getting the KNEE into your crotch... ARGH!

Shadow Lugia was a great boss, I especially love the Reverse Shadow and the Punishment moves, they are pretty thought out.

Also, very nice comeback of the team from the Colosseum part, and clever use of the actual SSE stuff (Shadow Bugs and Ancient Minister).

Overall, a great chapter! I'm looking forward to more! =D

Sorry for being so late to the party, I've been getting sick. Had a lovely sleep last night.

This was another great chapter. Captain Falcon's role in particular was utterly brilliant - he's a great plot device to throw around to defeat those others can't, resolve conflicts, and do stupid stuff like falcon punch Electrode when he was gonna explode. CAPTAIN FALCON CAN DO ANYTHING!

Other things I liked were Nack and Guntz actually being evil, Mach Rider's level which Spadefox mentioned already, and how much continuitiy there is with recurring characters. It's really nice in this SM to not have to see newcomers at every turn and you focusing on already introduced characters. Are we already past the halfway point? Dang. Can't wait to see how this keeps going. Considering that though, the character introductions might have to speed up, considering we still have no villians actually in Brawl or so much as one Zelda character.

Mew? That must mean there shall be Mewtwo! I'm counting on his inclusion! There's already no K. Rool, Mewtwo is mandatory!

Okay not really but it'd be nice

Commander Cruxis. . .Primids. . .You're including Cruxis' sandbags moveset he said he was gonna do when he was still around as (some of) the main villians? Awesome. I just hope Cruxis actually comes back and makes the bloody moveset. The primids shall fall before the almighty sandbags!

This SM really needs to be paid more attention.

Lolz, I thought it would remind you of your own Mach Rider stages, considering that's where I got the inspiration from.;)

The "No johns" thing from Wheelie was just epic. And Guntz and Nack getting totally owned by Captain Falcon was awful to read. It already hurt imagining getting the KNEE into your crotch... ARGH!
Glad to see my jokes are actually as funny as I hope. And I needed to have the bounty hunters be beaten somehow, so, may as well use the Brawl deus ex machina.

Shadow Lugia was a great boss, I especially love the Reverse Shadow and the Punishment moves, they are pretty thought out.
OMG someone complimented one of my bosses thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou! *hugs Spadefox*

Well considering I already implementing those things in the PROLOUGE...:p
But thanks anyways.:bee:

Captain Falcon was easily my favorite part of writing this chapter next to Shadow Lugia.:bee:

Im honestly not sure if there will be any Brawl villians involved, though Wolf will probably make an appearance eventually if he counts. As for Zelda....Hmmmmm, I'll just say maybe.

And you are on the right track with Mewtwo...

Yes, the idea came from the move set plans (hence why Cruxis is the commander, being it was his move set), but I'm not sure if it will be the same MYMers that were slated to be in it, since there's been no talk of it since the idea was concieved (and now in my SM, I guess). So I guess you'll just have to wait and see how the Primids are handled in Playing God. ^_^

@Both of you: Thank you for reading. School's starting to become a real drag, so I'm glad to see I can still count on you guys to read this thing I slave over.:)

Yay, glad to see you're still liking it Wyvern. I put a ton of time in Shadow Lugia, so I'm glad to see other people love it too. Thanks for reading. ^_^

That was a great read. The Chapter itself wasn't as epic as Chapter 7, to be quite honest, but the bosses...
Good Lord, the bosses were AMAZING.

But, all in detail, m i rite?

I like how the heroes and villains kinda find together by the spite of the villains. The plot itself is okay, not as epic as those of other chapters.
The stages were neat, I liked those gravity-switching parts.

The cutscenes were cool, too - this is perhaps one of the most vicious places, yet you managed to get a few chuckles out of me, like the part with the Salvador Dalí painting, or Master Hand's line "This isn't my world, now is it?", Maria's teching the gravity change, the kitchen sink, and of course (and most importantly) the reference to The 13th Hour. =P

But, to proceed... are you intending to rip me off? Because the bosses are the REAL highlight of this chapter - as those are what, according to others, made my Story Mode.

The Chaos Knights are a great boss battle, having 4 of the same character type and Vertigo in the background, all using several attacks based off of Aeon's or being made exactly for him.

Vertigo... is just nasty. She has so many insanely evil moves like the Gravity Swap (you love that thing, don't you), the Trophy Beam, the Treadmill and whatnot... Tabuu would crap in his pants if he would have to fight against Vertigo. Oh, and Dimentio's line is pretty evil, too... Saying "Ciao!" while she dies. =P

Overall: Great work! The quality is still good, albeit the setting didn't make much of an epic one, the 2 bosses definitely made up for it.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting this Chapter to be ZOMG EPIC, it was mainly to finally reveal where the demons have been coming from, as well as bring back the Castlevania and Agrabah characters. At least you liked the stages ^_^

So you weren't that fond of the plot, yet you liked the cut scenes, the purpose of which are to advance the plot. Lol, whatever. You laughed at all the same things I laughed at while writing this, so I won't complain. And yes, the 13th hour referance is indeed most important of all. XD

Not ripping you off, just inspired by yours. <3

Yayness, you liked how I implemented Aeon's moves into the Chaos Knights. Though I can't take all the credit, you were the one who prvided me with all of those wonderfull special moves to draw from and implement. ^_^

Vertigo was insanley fun to write. She's a Goddess of insanity, it's only natural she would have a butt-load of crazy powers. My only problem with her is that she will be nearly impossible to top when it comes time for the final boss.

Overall: Great work! The quality is still good, albeit the setting didn't make much of an epic one, the 2 bosses definitely made up for it.
Glad to hear you at least loved my bosses. <3

I promise, I'm not dropping the quality of the rest of the game just for the bosses, this chapter just happenned to come out like that. Next chapter shall have both an epic plot as well as epic boss fights! \o/

Good to see we're not forgetting any characters. Quite funny, at the end of chapter 7 I remembered the Agrabah characters going into the Portal Dimension and went back to make myself remember what had happened. Sure enough, the next chapter had them playable in the dimension as I predicted, as well as Dimentio, master of dimensions, in the dimension. For once I saw this coming, but that didn't take away from it at all.:bee:

Granted the actual plot in this chapter was bland in comparison to your other utterly amazing chapters, but at least we're going back to the old characters and uniting groups, so that makes it have some relevance to the plot. The level and battle designs wern't among the best (But nothing can beat chapter 5), but those bosses were excellent. It screamed that the main boss was gonna be fought when she was first encountered, but instead she kills everyone and Aeon has to remove her invulneability in a nice twist. The battle against the knights was good, especially with you actually making use of Aeon's moveset, but the battle against the snake lord herself was the best. Those are among the most creative attacks for a boss I've ever seen, especially the finisher. I was rather tired and felt like skipping over the bosses. . .What a fool I was. That was the best part of the chapter by far.:p

Although what's with the trophies? This isn't the SSE.

lol, Dimentio being in this place was a given, wasn't it.

As I said to Spade, this chapter wasn mainly meant to a) Bring back and unite character groups, and b) Reveal the "Chaos Dimension" that Black Doom's been mentioning since chapter 1. Heck, I'd say chapter 3 had even worse plot, as all it really did that was signifigant was introduce Eggman.

At least you loved the bosses. I've had this battle in mind for a while, even before I finished Chapter 7, so it's a relief to see that it was as epic as I thought. :bee:

Although what's with the trophies? This isn't the SSE.
In Primal Rage, Vertigo has a "fatality" move in which she turns her opponent into a statue and then stabs it with her tail to shatter it. So the trophy ray was both a referance to that attack as well as a little Smash Bros in-joke.:bee:

Am I actually the first one to read one of your chapters (Okay, half a chapter) for a change? :bee:

It's all looking really epic, and you're uniting practically all the character groups. I love what you've done with Sakurai throughout this whole thing with his bias towards the Kirby characters/halberd, and you've been setting up Colonel perfectly. You've also got an impressive amount of unique levels that don't have the characters on foot throughout here, and you've been doing an excellent job with giving everybody screen time. Also lol at actually including Snake with nothing but a box.:p

I thought at first you were giving the Starfox characters dialogue to throw in mass quotes, but the few that were there wern't that direct of quotes. It felt a bit awkward that they got actually cutscene dialogue. . .But it was all worth it when Wolf came into the picture and gave his bad *** speech to Fox.

Seeing how many people have used Heavy Lobster as a boss, are you simply not going to include it in your own SM? Heavy Lobster would've been a very easy thing to throw in there. However; the Combo Cannon was a better boss anyway. I particularly like the functions of the panels, and having them do a wave formation was brilliant. With your Combo Cannon and Heavy Lobster and my Halberd Reactor, people will have to steal our bosses if they want a boss fight on the halberd.:chuckle:

Looking forward to how the rest of the chapter turns out. This is more top quality stuff here. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to keep myself from getting buried in my school. No matter how pushed back I am, I can't resist reading this. . .This. . .MASTERPIECE.

Sakurai is too much fun to write about, though I guess we have the Brawl SSE to thank for giving us all that material.

The levels were indeed my favorite part of this Chapter, though I'm not sure how I came up with some of them, lol.

The Starfox characters got dialouge for that level becuase theyre basically the only Nintendo franchise to have a lot spoken words, so it was kinda a nod to that. I don't think that Wolf/Fox battle would have had nearly as much impact if Wolf didn't get to make his speech ^_^

Yes, Heavy Lobster wasn't included becuase I wanted to do Combo Cannon, the one Halberd Boss who hasn't been given a full boss fight yet in any SM. Glad you liked the wave attack, it basically came to me while I was in the middle of writing the boss XD

Looking forward to how the rest of the chapter turns out. This is more top quality stuff here. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to keep myself from getting buried in my school. No matter how pushed back I am, I can't resist reading this. . .This. . .MASTERPIECE.
Well, don't worry, part 2 won't be up for a while. Though I am trying to get this all finished before MYM5 is posted.:p

First of all... it's spelled Bob-Omb, not Bob-Om... But that's just a REALLY minor thing.

This chapter (part) definitely makes up for the rather stale Chapter 8. Great cutscenes, Wolf being bad*ss, and the stages. Ohmigawd, the STAGES!
There's really hardly any typical SSE stage in this Chapter. I love the sidescrolling shooter one, the Coin Shooter one, and I also love the use of Snake with nothing but a box, ZSS and Mach Rider being a Captain Falcon clone...

The boss doesn't stand out that much from the insanely good stages, but that doesn't matter. The Combo Cannon still is a very great boss, really awesomely done. I like the panel-based attacks, as well, and also how it is perverted into some monster.

The references in this chapter are great too - Sakurai and his Kirby bias, the mentioned references to the several movesets, the one to Shadow the Hedgehog...

Overall, a great thing, I can't wait to see the second part of this Chapter. ^_^

That's what I thought, but for some reason it just didn't look right viewing it on the screen. whatever.

Oh, thank God, I don't think I could have survived if this Chapter wasn't an improvement from 8.

Everybody loves my stages! ^_^ But booo, nobody mentioned the Halberd Reactor, that was my favorite (Okay, maybe having box-Snake was my favorite XD)

The boss doesn't stand out that much from the insanely good stages, but that doesn't matter. The Combo Cannon still is a very great boss, really awesomely done. I like the panel-based attacks, as well, and also how it is perverted into some monster.
I was afraid that Combo cannon was kinda dull other than his panel attacks, so I'm glad to hear that he's better than I thought.

The references in this chapter are great too - Sakurai and his Kirby bias, the mentioned references to the several movesets, the one to Shadow the Hedgehog...
The Shadow reference came about becuase I gave Black Doom an origin in the prolouge, so I felt it would only be fair to make a nod to the game that spawned him, and I even managed to give it story signifigance. :bee:

Overall, a great thing, I can't wait to see the second part of this Chapter. ^_^
Glad to hear that ^_^

Really great chapter HR. I liked the subtle twists to make things interesting and the underlined narrative in at the very end. I really have hih hopes for this SM and I hope that mine can be somewhere near this good.

You've done it again, buddy.

After the insanely awesome first part of Chapter 9, you again managed to beat your record out easily.

I can't believe that it can become much more epic. If you manage to do so, it will become the pure essence of epicness, and nothing can even stop it.

This is such a wonderful piece of art on itself... I enjoyed every little part of reading that story, and this chapter, as well, beginning with obvious things such as the bosses or the stage designs, to the smallest of details and references, such as the Falcon Kick being outprioritized, the number codes Nack enters and Fierce Deity Link being in Computer Virus' repertoire.

The peak of this great chapter (part) has been really made at the end, the final battle of it against the Black Arms and the Black Doom fake, the fight of Devil Doom... and of course, the last bit showing the scenes of the current teams with the narrative text alongside of it...

I love this SM, you know it. And every second of you grinding through this chapter has paid off... I'm glad you pulled through it, as this is a great masterpiece. If Chapter 10 and after are better than this, I'm going to cry because it will be more epicness than a human mind can comprehend.

If there wasn't a 10 character limit on this site, I could have just wrote the word "Fantastic".

That was a truly amazing chapter, and it was presented extremely well. I enjoyed the first half, but it began to truly shine in the second half of the chapter.

I've always felt that your levels and boss fights were never as good as the story, but this chapter has featured a variety of different levels, epic boss fights, and even casting you in the role of a villain at some points. There may have been a lot of defend a certain location missions at the start, but that represented the desperation the characters were facing extremely well.

The Virus boss fight and Grievous fight were definitely the strongest points of the chapter as far as gameplay is concerned.

This is one of my favourite chapters in any SM, and the beautiful combination of story and gameplay is marvelous.

Sorry, I don't think I can compete with that, but I'll try.:p In any case, this chapter was indeed worthy of everything Spade said.

Everything was just outright amazing. I didn't think you could improve much from the first half of this amazing chapter, but it's only gotten better. The main thing that separates your SM from the others is that it has more of an actual story.

It's actually easy to keep track of everything in your SM, especially since you only have a small roster of main villains. The fact that characters constantly recur throughout this SM also gives it such an amazing sense of it far greater than any other SM. It's a great benefit to having a non-gigantic roster. While this prevents you from having several characters who I'd love to see in and makes the roster feel incomplete, it benefits the actual story greatly.

This isn't just some little collage of cutscenes and levels that give everyone screen time that are vaguely connected like my SM. This is an actual epic. What a SM really should be. You have opened my eyes to just how great SMs can be.

And the main thing that I feels help it achieve this is the well done dialogue, no matter how rare it is. Which is why I'm considering-

Even about me! Back to this SM. The mass references and the level designs were also very well done, and you managed to give everybody playable time. I didn't feel the bosses to be a strong point of this chapter, but it's hard to compete with the epicness of the rest of it, especially AI Colonel finally being unveiled. I only hope he shows up again though.

I was starting to wonder if you'd forgotten about the group with Daroach, Zazu, Joker, and the Horseman, but I'm pleasently surprised in the ending to see they're still around. Now if only we could get an update on Sonic. . .

I bet he's playing a big role in the ending chapter.

All in all, great job with this. Sorry for the lateness of commenting. Church, the Halberd Crew, the chat. . .lots of delays here.

...I am WAY too lazy to type an unholy amount of praise for this SM; it'd be a waste of my time and yours, seeing as everything that I could possibly say has already been said.

It's win on a stick. 'Nuff said. (BTW, this is a little very late, but I loooove the bits about Maria being the only one who teched her fall in the reverse-gravity place.)

Is Tanookie gonna show up at one point? :bee:

Wow... great chapter....

I simply loved the interpretation of the Sandbags, the lol worthly Primid bosses and the storyline.

The use of Cruxis and the Primids as villains was absolutely brilliant.

Really, what more can I say but to echo Warlord and say that this is the best SM there is.

Good as always. Comfortable to read (save for the text parts), I can understand what you're telling me about the mission flow, and the bosses keep up to notch.

But please, forgive me now, but I feel I'd be horrible if I lied here.

You say

"Self/MYMer-Insert"

and I say

Even if Mendez can be awesome in and out of fiction.

The personifications of the MYMers were insanely epic, although you poked a bit too much fun at Chris. :p Anyway, my references of detail and extras were the best, along with Mendez's horse tranquilzier. Makes me miss Mendez all the more. Spadefox's inclusion was also very epic, but my favorite part was that you included more MYMers in the form of bosses. I loled so hard at the DFM boss, and the BKupa boss was epic. Seeing the current pattern, I wonder who the other 3 MYMers are who you'll use? MarthTrinity and Tanookie are obvious, though I wonder largely who the final MYMer boss will be.

Anyway, it was mind numbingly epic despite being only 3 levels so far. Keep on going, man.

And here I thought it couldn't get much better then the first half of the chapter. . .And good lord. I thought the fight club part was the best? That pales in comparison to the sheer epicness of this chapter. It just gets better and better as it goes, HR. You've done an amazing job of bringing the SM to it's climax.

The bosses of this chapter were particularly epic, as were the music choices that went along with them. Cruxis having a minature mechanic of his own was quite impressive, and the various Cervantes references in that last attack of his and the music for my part of the last level also made my day. While we're talking about me. . .Love the mass reference to detail.

What really stole the show in terms of bosses though was Spadefox. Vastly superior to Cruxis and more epic what with so much more HP and stocks (And the music!). The use of Spadefox's tentacles and turning his actual personality into moves was outright amazing. Speaking of which, you've captured his character so amazingly well and made him such a bad *** villian that it's just crazy. I love Spade's role.

I was defenitely expecting MT and Tanookie to be the bosses, and I was quite happy to be surprised. Kholdstare and Jimnymebob were interesting choices. The amount of effort you put into making these bosses is very obvious with the map you made for Kholdstare, and the fact you can't see him half the time made for an interesting boss fight. I love Jimnymebob's blocking mechanics and the final phase of the battle with him as you grind down after him. Brilliant.

While I'm commenting all the bosses I may as well go back and get into MOAR DETAIL on BKupa and DFM. I loved how BKupa actually didn't have stamina and you had to get him to fall into the ground. Any complaints of him being too easy are easily forgiven due to Wheelie being present, and it was also a nice way to -almost- get Bowser into the SM.:p DFM wasn't all that interesting originality wise and kind of took away from the seriousness of the rest of the chapter. . .But he was hilarious either way, and he came early on in the chapter, so all is forgiven.

So. . .Yeah. If Spade was indeed the best boss maker, that's behind us now. These bosses are amazing and are quite easily on par with Vertigo. The amount of screen time you gave everyone was also quite impressive. I'm left wondering as to who the final boss will be due to Spadefox already having been a boss, Cruxis being dead, and HR being a playable character. . .Devil Doom? Nay, too predictable. More likely then not HR's secret weapon. For a while I was thinking it was Mewtwo, but now it's apparantely mechanical. . .Just what is it?

Oh, and you included a Zelda character before Kholdstare. You referenced Zelda herself being killed off and the Mushroom Kingdom and Hyrule disputing who was responsible. :p

Nice to hear that the Primid Commander wasn't anti-climatic. And the Cervantes thing admiattley originally came about due to me running out od ideas, but if turned out nicely in the end, so I won't complian. Glad to hear that you liked all the silly detail jokes.:bee:

How I could do anything less for my Spadefox? <3

But yes, I loved actually making the Playing God Spadefox based on the MYMer Spadefox. I wished I could have done stuff like that for the other bosses, but I guess it's only natural to be more in-tune with somebody you have AIM conversations with EVERY SINGLE DAY.:bee:

I'm also pleased that somebody other than Spade listens to my music choices. Spade actually gave me the song for his fight.:bee:

I was worried that Jimny was kinda boring, so I'm relieved to hear that he was as good as the rest. Kholdstare was chosen as a tribute of sorts, and Jimny made the cut as a reward for being one of the only people to comment on my self-insert in MYM4 (You were the other, but you're already in the game, hahah).

While I'm commenting all the bosses I may as well go back and get into MOAR DETAIL on BKupa and DFM. I loved how BKupa actually didn't have stamina and you had to get him to fall into the ground. lol, I thought the same thing about BKupa and Bowser. DFM was intented to be comic releif of sorts, so my mission was accomplished.:bee:

You know most of the details I loved about the chapter already over AIM, so I will keep my comment short:
