OK, so a little while ago my aunt and uncle came round to visit us, and along with them was my cousin and her small child, Evan.
Evan is a cute little kid. He's around six years old, generally well behaved and the like. There's only one problem: he always follows me, wherever I go. Among other things I can't go to my bedroom for some privacy or anything. At first, I just locked myself in the bathroom for a bit (yeah, I know), but after deciding that was a bit cruel, I decided to let him play Brawl with me for a while. That way I might get some fun out of it.
After briefly showing him the controls, we picked some characters and started Brawling. And needless to say I won each time. It's even more fun than playing Brawl seriously. He always picked the exact same stage (Mario Kart Circuit), and in total I ended up playing over half the cast. Here are some of the things that amused me the most.
- I'd tell him to pick a certain character, and then I'd pick their worst matchup. For example, if he picked Donkey KOing, I'd choose Dedede and short-step chaingrab him across the stage.
- At one point he chose Zelda, so I decided to pick King Dedede, to which he said, 'No, don't, he's big. I'll never win.' So I pressed B.... and picked Mr. Game and Watch.
- He often asked me to pick what he called 'joke characters', such as Wolf, Olimar, ROB and Diddy Kong. Needless to say I trounced him with all of them.
- Chaingrabs, chaingrabs and more chaingrabs. Now, I'm not that great with the ICs, but I managed to do a 0-death, but DThrow chaingrabbing to Fair meteor smash. (He got very annoyed at me for that one)
- At one point, this conversation occured:
Me: Pick a character, any character, and I'll play as them.
Evan: Er... go for that character on the bottom right. Ran-dom.
Me: Ok.
Evan: In fact, I'm gonna pick him too.
(Skip forward 10 seconds past the stage selection and the match starting)
Evan: Hey! That's not ran-dom! That's Snake!
Despite all of that, he seemed to be enjoying himself, since he ended up getting me to play it for two and a half hours in a row. Now, he wants the game himself see, so I figured I should give him some money for it. So I tried to give him £10, but he wouldn't take it. Oh well...
Sometimes, when you know you're not very good at Brawl, it's good to have someone that you can always beat. That may sound mean, but he didn't seem to mind. TBH, I think he just liked beating up Nintendo characters. Plus it kept him quiet as well...
No jokes about playing with little boys, please. They aren't funny. Thank you.
