If you're far away from Master Beast, and it's approaching you, that's kind of a huge sign that the bite attack is coming. Of course, there's also the lightning attack to be aware of.

Master Beast is my bane, since it's usually the one that steals my first stock and roughs up my second. That bite attack it does is programmed almost like a counter (he's programmed to use it as soon as you began an attack if it's his next move on the docket), so the key to beating him is recognizing when he's about to do that.

I consider it a great joy that I beat him with Mario completely bare. It took WAY too much trial and error, but I finally did it.
Never noticed that! Maybe keep areal attacking so you can still move/dodge when it does the bite?

Spam rock smash intelligently...
I don't think you can put spam and intelligently in the same sentence >.<
I think he more means know when it's okay to use Rock Smash. Even with the super armor frames, some of Master Core's attacks can pierce through the super armor if their damage output is high enough; Master Beast's bite attack is a major example, as it deals around 29% damage on intensity level 9.0.
Mario_and_Sonic_Guy pretty much answered for me, but I was basically saying be patient, Rock Smash, Dodge/Shield, Rock Smash, Dodge/Shield etc. until dead. Knowing when the armor is active helps in case you goof a little.

You can do whatever you want, so long as the endlag is non-existant so you can dodge/shield. As soon as it's done, I think you can squeeze a Smash attack in before he does something else.

I don't even bother trying to use laggy attacks on Master Beast unless it's right after the bite, since it can randomly use it as an immediate follow-up to one of its other attacks, which can easily catch you off-guard.

Amusingly, G&W's up smash can tank the bite unharmed if it connects with him while he's holding his head back, as he's immune to most attacks during that time.

I beaten it the first or the second day I got the game, with a modified Kirby. Then I learned the patterns a bit more and now I can easily beat him with a regular Kirby on the first try (but sometimes he tricks me and kills me).
I can't remember how I modified Kirby, but there was an healing powerup (not crouch).

I can say that it's more about memorization than skills, and I think it's a bit boring/annoying because of that.

Master Core exploded on me because I was trying the taunts of a character :089:

I tried with ROB once and it's a lot easier than with Kirby.

I only miss 2 mii hats to 100% the game, I'll eventually face Master Core again sometime, in order to get them.

Alright, this is it! Enough heming and hawing, enough practicing on 6.0-8.0, and enough putting it off with Target Blast, Trophy Rush and the like--I'm finally going to tackle 9.0 for the first time! I've been dreading this for a very long time, and I don't pretend to think I'll beat it on my first try or even my first night. But I'm at least going to end the anticipation and just jump in, see how bad at it I really am. One thing's for sure, unlike the thread title, I know this is going to be anything but easy for me!

(Side note: There is a fatal flaw in the OP's suggestion of Ganondorf with a crit badge, namely in the form of Little Mac, the Fire Emblem characters, and anyone else who can counter, as they will rip Ganondorf to shreds with counter, no matter how much defense he's equipped with. That's why I gave up on using him.)

On my practice runs, I had the most success with Bowser, so I'll be using Auto-Healer Brawn Badge, Iron Shell, and Silver Fake Nails on my first run(s) of 9.0. Wish me luck!

Will try this right now. If it works, you're going to replace Thor and become my lord and savior.

Edit: Success. With a critical hit badge and two attack badges, I have beaten master core with both my stocks intact. 1 shot the hands (Just one up-smash...101% damage, incredible). Took a lot of hits to beat the first creature but I 2-shot the 2nd thing and 2 shot the swords. Final score 900k which is 300k above my record. I feel so dirty yet so satisfied. It was like a porn session.

Too bad the process getting there was annoying. I was flimsy as hell since I sacrificed much defense (wow). And Captain Falcon, my first match, KOed me at 53% with a falcon kick. Like wut?

Both times I've beaten Master Core on 9.0 it was without customs and using Lucina and Robin. Here's a simple strategy for Lucina/Marth users.

COUNTER

That right there is a godlike tool against Beast and Edges. Virtually everything Besast does bar the Lightning can be countered. Edges is much more difficult, but damaging him and countering on the last hit of the multiple sword strike(the one where the swords separate and attack individually before the middle one comes crashing down) is enough to kill him.

Giant is not counter fodder because his attacks are too bizarrely placed to counter, even things like the head smash.

But if you insist on doing it with customs on...

I ran MC 9.0 with my custom Lucina later on and had a better time.

My Lucina is balanced in equipment(don't want to gimp anything), and had Dolphin Jump and Dash Assault as custom moves. Doplhin jump provides invaluable high recovery, so the lack of damage is negligible, and Dash Assuault is useful against Master Shadow since it often forgets to counter it.

Hope I helped a few of ya.

I was able to beat Master Core 9.0 with Fox without losing a single stock and it took me a week to analyze its moveset. When Master Giant is trying to do this one move from Tabuu (the instant kill move), you need to use timing to avoid that. Master Beast is probably the hardest one to beat because that monster can get you right away after you use your smash attacks so you have to use it wisely. Master Edges is also tricky since there's this one move that does its quick slash and kills you off in high percentage. Luckily with Fox, he can actually reflect its projectile from Master Edges. There's also this one move where people are having trouble with when Edges does this hack and slash move, I was able to use Fox's illusion on time just to make sure I don't get hit. It wasn't easy, but I feel proud beating Master Core on 9.0 without losing a single stock.

I didn't use custom since I'm not a huge fan of it.

Master Giant's wave attack is not a 1-hit KO move. It simply pushes your fighter back, usually off the stage. Fighters with long distance recoveries can recover from that attack without losing a life.

Stay close to Master Giant, and on the floor, and your probability of being KO'd is a lot less.

I managed to do it with Toon Link without any equipment. I almost did it with regular Link and Zelda without even really trying, and I'm gonna go back and try with Luigi, Mega Man, Samus, Ness, and probably some others.

If you want to do it without equipment, the best way to do it is to just be very patient and know when to shield and dodge against his forms. It takes a bit of patience, but anyone can do it. Just like Intense Boss Battles. The only thing that really makes it "hard" is that the game forces you to go down a difficulty/start over when you screw up. It's not like Melee where you can keep continuing on Very Hard modes as much as you want.

I'm playing in order to get the dog ears (mii hat). I powered up a Kirby with some equipment that gives him less walking speed (walking, not running) but raises all the 3 parameters a bit. Beating the classic mode at 9.0 with that modified Kirby is a joke, it's very easy.

My 9.0 build was a loaded out Mega Man with three Arm Cannon equipments to raise his attack above 150. Since most of the Master Forms are so big, Air Shooter wrecks them pretty handily (especially the annoying flying ones). For Master Beast, I just jumped in and out of range with flame sword, which didn't take long to dispatch him either.

I feel so cheap. I haven't practiced very much at all on lower difficulties, and only tried 9.0 once before, but I didn't know what I was doing. I had a few hours of free time, so I decided I would try to beat the infamous 9.0 master core. I just came to smashboards to look for tips and found this thread. I looked at SatoshiM's post on how to dodge moves, and went in with a double attack-single defense item with Ganondorf. Beat it first try, only dying once and not taking any damage on my second stock. And honestly, the beast was the easiest. Just don't smash spam and it's a cakewalk. literally all you need to do is use a few tilts, walk away, shield, rinse and repeat.

What got me through was just Roy. 2x Legendary Sword, 1 Lo-Jump Cape.
+135 Attack,
+6 Defense,
And only -6 Speed!
(I had lowered ground jumps, but that made no difference.)

Got it on my SECOND try.
My first time was screwed by a MOTHER****ING SONIC.

I have never tried this challenge with customs on, and I cleared it with Robin at 9.0 some time back. You just need to play smart, that's all...

Also, if you're gonna vanilla it, Shulk is a great choice. Buster mode can finish off Crazy Hand within half a minute, using up tilts and aerials. The same goes for Master Core's other forms, but you still have to dodge stuff, or even use Vision to counter some strikes. Master Core's mirror match form is also not so bad, even though it has access to Monado Arts. Just Buster away, perhaps use Shield toward the end. Don't bother with Smash, it's quicker to just hack at the stamina, and safer too.

You should not be far away from him though since his attacks are all extremely easy to dodge and from up close you can punish him better. You should be just out of range of the hitboxes from the part of his jump attack where he moves up.

I always just stand before him and Spotdodge, powershield, or counter his attacks. Besides approaching him when he jumps to the other side or moving back and forth to dodge his Thunder I barely move against him.

The only thing that you need to look out for is that he sometimes leaves so little time between his attacks that he can punish you if you use a slow attacks like many characters smashes. I think his jump attack has the biggest cooldown lag and gives most characters a safe opportunity to smash him. But after his Bite and Spikes attack I often just jab him once or tilt him. Since he is so easy to avoid I do not mind fighting him a bit longer if it means not leaving myself open to his attacks.

Edit: Oops, did not realise I was the last to post in this! Sorry for the double post.

@ 1FC0 1FC0 : You make it sound too easy, but not everyone has the reflexes to avoid those intensity 9.0 attacks. And of course, for anyone using Rosalina, if Master Beast damages the Luma, hitlag will take effect, which can end up having Rosalina take damage as well.

Basically, your reflexes need to be very efficient if you want to survive intensity 9.0 Master Core's attack speed.

I used to find his attacks hard to dodge too but after fighting him many times I got used to his timing and now I finally see him for the wimp that he truly is!

Then congrats for doing this in Smash 3DS. Smash Wii U is another story with the inclusion of the Master Fortress phase though, but that's only for when you're playing solo.

I love lemmy and hes so good in it, but i still cant quite beat it. I have done like 500 smash runs and no critical hitter gear except for a critical hitter hat. Are critical hitter gear hard to get?

You can get the Critical Hitter Brawn Badge by making 300 KOs in the Smash game mode. However, the stat penalty for that equipment is very severe, and you probably don't want to have a negative defense value when facing Master Core.

If you play Dedede you can bounce the gordo off of master beast (and the other forms) for some good damage.

I beat it as King Dedede after a few tries.

He was modded, and the equipment I gave him were a Critical Hit Badge (KO'd Master Hand and Master Shadow in one hit using a fully-charged side smash), a Desperate Immortal Badge (really helped with Master Giant) and a Desperate Defense Badge (which helped all around). I had Dedede Storm and Topspin Gordo (which, by reading some of the Dedede comments in this section, now seems like a stupid choice) as custom moves, and I kept spamming the Super Dedede Jump so I could have super armor against Master Core in general.

Honestly, the hardest part of the trip was the Fighting Mii Team - GOD those guys are a pain on 9.0.
