Watch the trailer, and notice the fall speed of every character.

At 0:36, watch Links fall speed.

At 0:41, watch Fox's fall speed as he gets hit towards the bridge.

At 0:41, watch whatever character is flying off the bottom right with a smoke trail

At 0:42, watch Fox fall from a platform before he up+Bs

At 0:44, watch Samus' fall speed.

At 0:46, watch DK's fall speed.

It's all floaty. Every last one. The difference between Samus, Dk, and Fox's fall speed is negligible.

You are right they are all floaty.
My friend Kel has also noticed that the walk speed of everyone is extremely slow. It's like Bowser and Captain falcon walks.

Of course, we haven't seen dashing or fast falling.

I don't know, everything looked like they were slowed down for dramatic effect...

there was one scene in particular, at 0:36, where everything is really slow, so take the speed of anything in this video with a grain of salt.

Much of it really seems slowed down for dramatic effect.

Face it, if you show a real match between several characters, in short snippets, to people who don't know the game well... they won't be able to even RECOGNIZE what's HAPPENING.

It's slowed down to make it more accessible, that's what.

Ya, just think. People who have never seen competitive smash see it on YouTube and think it is in lightning mode. So...they show us the trailers in slower speeds so we can see what is happening better.

Ok, this mini trailer was obviously slowed down. Just watch the other trailers. It's pretty apparent that the characters aren't really that floaty.

In the second trailer, just look at Fox jumping. He's a fast faller, just like always.

They may well have decreased the fall speeds of characters, but there's always Fast Falling. Also, they could have slowed it down to make it less confusing and more presentable; so I guess we'll have to wait 'til December to find out.

Speaking of which, anyone know if Gamestop/EB Games/Babbages is taking reservations on it now that the release date is known?

The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

This is done all the time with trailers of fast-paced action or competitive games. Besides, floatiness doesn't automatically equate to air combat superiority -- I think even Nintendo could figure that out.

Yeah, even if everyone WAS slower, this is by no means a good trailer to use to determine that.

I agree. Especially when you compare the footage here with the one from the Nintendo World trailer, the characters are all moving much much slower.

Yeah, Imagine iff they make melee really floaty, like it appears in this trailer. You know how hard it would be to approach a marth?

Well, I hope it is not that floaty, that would be cool eventually, but it would be awkward for quite some time...

It would make superior air combat if the trajectory speed after getting hit is slower so that you can combo your opponent more. Everything else though needs to stay the same speed in order for the effect to happen, and that includes the speed moves come out and how fast your normally jump and fall.

Just watch how they fall and how they jump, everything in the air is slower than melee, no??

But running and everything else is a lot slower, and now with the update, I do think that this was just in slo mo for effect.

For the most part it is not in slow motion. Samus' forward aerial attack has the same speed it had in Melee and Fox and Bowser still fall slower than normal.
