How Explicit Can Pokemon Get?

I was just thinking about this after battling a trainer that was waiting for there wife to have a baby. They mentioned it very non-chalantly, but it was a more mature topic than "OmGOZZOORS u has a pogamoon? BAttleER NOW!".

I was thinking for the 5th Gen, there could be a town with a large hospital, and a large key point to the plot would be a girl who is bed-ridden and asks you to get her a pokemon for her dying wish. When you bring her the Pokemon, she is happy, and then she dies. The parents/guardians say something like "She would have wanted you to have the Pokemon".

What do you think? Is this too serious for Pokemon?

A little sappy, but I can dig it. I personally hated how in D/P, they introduced l33tspeak to the text. It really revealed the target audience for who the game was made: 10-year olds, just like the character in the game. Some serious elements couldn't hurt much now, could they?

Man, heavy..!

Knowing Pokemon though, it would be more like she's sick in bed, but then you bring her the Pokemon and it cures her or something.
I'd personally be delighted at an unexpected twist like her dying though, real surprises in games are always fantastic. Alas, Pokemon is too wrapped in sugar for anything like that.

We know this because JIGGLYPUFF is a playable character in Smash Bros.
And even in the Smash fighting franchise, Jiggs is still incredibly kid friendly and nice as pie.
I mean, her killer move is where she falls asleep beside you. That's just adorable..!

This kind of reminds me of the kid with Darkrai nightmares in Canalave City.

They really should do this. If they had a more mature plot, then maybe they could stop catering completely to the kid audience because they think they're the only ones buying the games anymore...and maybe the morons who think Pokemon is for babies will pick it up. Seriously, Pokemon is a really deep game, what with EVs and IVs, that don't appear on the surface and people consider it a kiddy game.

But yeah, if they have a Pokemon sticking the middle finger up (Muk, or at least it looks like it) then they can certainly have a more mature plot. At least, they should.

One question though; they introduced 1337speak in D/P? Where?

It was subtle - more like internet lingo, but they through in a few LOL's and stuff, like, in people's actual words. If I was talking to someone in real life and they said L-O-L rather than actually laughing, snickering, or showing any signs of reactive humor, I would square them to the floor.

Really? The only thing I remember was one "noob", which isn't 1337speak. Guess I missed that.

Yeah, I would too. Anyone who actually SAYS "lol" is...they deserve nothing but a punch in the face and a facepalm.

More sidequests like this would lead for a possibly more mature pokemon audience, but knowing pokemon this is exactly what would happen...

You: Gives her the pokemon.
Her: Wow what a cute (generic cute pokemon here) now I can be happy.
Pokemon: (cries)
The pokemon tears then heal the girl like in the movie with mewtwo.
End.

I don't think it could be more predictable.

My idea for the opening.

(I'll just use my name)

Yaya walked the streets of Flybird City, nearly bawling his eyes out. When the morning arrived, he was fired up, ready to begin his Pokemon Journey, just to find out that he was too late. His rival for pretty much everything, Gimpyfish (I just had to, Okay?), obtained the last Pokemon, a Punchat (Punching Rat).

When walking through an alley, a shortcut back to his house, he heard the cries of a Pokemon, followed by laughing of multiple boys. Yaya followed the cries, it wasn't a short run, he then found 4 boys, pelting an Eevee with slingshots.

Yaya gasped at what he saw, then, disaster.

One of the boys turned around, "Hey! You!" he yelled.

Yaya growled at himself, what was he thinking!? Panic ran through his mind, his hands were shaking, sweat drenched his face. Yaya knew there was only one thing to do.

Yaya bolted out of there. Unfortunately for him, the panic he had made him completely forget where he was going.

The boys were chasing hard after him, Yaya was constently looking back to see them glaring him down. Yaya turned a left, to have his face crushed against a wall, he had hit a dead end.

The boys closed in, Yaya had nowhere to run now, and was now receiving punches to his face.

Yaya had 3 teeth punched out, and the boys were nowhere near to stopping, his nose was bleeding, he was drifting in and out of reality. One of the boys winded up one last punch, Yaya knew this would ne the one that finished him, he dlosed his eyes and braced himself.

"Eeeeeevvveeee!!!"

"What the- Ahhh!!!'

The Eevee tackled the boy, Yaya opened his eyes, the Eevee just looked back and smiled at Yaya, one boy, which Yaya assumed was the leader, approached him and sent out a Kitire (Fire Kitten) Yaya knew what to do at this moment.

"Go! Eevee!"

O_O so deep. I would love a thicker story, It would be deep enough for older people but little kids wouldn't really care making it a win-win thing.

Whoa Yaya. That's a surefire way to actually care about your starter Pokemon. As much as I liked it, I don't know if I could continue playing the game with three missing teeth ;)

I do appreciate that you created an intro to the game that had nothing to do with a Pokemon Professor and his laboratory and the same old pick a Grass, Fire, or Water Pokemon and your rival will pick the one that trumps you. I really appreciated this read.

I like the idea of Pokemon getting more mature, but maybe not that. I mean, it would be a good way for you to get your first Pokemon (such as during the initial character select theres a question if you like water, fire, or grass the best and that will be the Pokemon you'll capture for the girl), but other than that I don't think your idea would fit very will.

But I do agree with the basic premise of your post. Pokemon needs to grow up.

Pokemon getting better FTW! I would love a more mature story. I mean come on, a pokemon should have died in one of the games by now. At least in B/R/Y they mentioned death.

That's pretty deep. I honestly don't think it's too explicit though. Keep in mind they had Cubone's dead mother in the originals, and the remakes as well. Not to mention, that little girl that's suffering throughout the entire game because of Darkrai... and she'll continue to suffer until you finally get Darkrai. lol. I think they'd be able to pull it off.

They should make it so that everytime a pokemon dies, and they don't want to move onto the afterlife, they become the lowest evolution of a ghost pokemon (Gastly, Misdreavous, Duskull, Shuppet, etc.)

It would be risky for Nintendo to make a much more mature plot. Pokemon is already considered "Controversial" with parents; imagine having a more mature story that draws away even further. I would, however, enjoy a little bit more Mother-esque story; something that is lighthearted, but has dark and depresing moments.

That reminds me so much of the jynx problem people had because she was "black" thats likely why she didnt get an evolution in 4th Gen. Nintendo even had to change her to purple to stop the problem.

Pokemon is just so typical, I mean, everything that could go wrong (i.e. Jynx being a racial stereotype) will be targeted by those insane mothers that stare at there kids during gaming.

Things I think need to be "Pokemonically" corrected:

-Black Trainers, there are NONE. Count them, ready? NONE! I'm not black, but seriously, I'm sure they can add "Rappers", "Ballers", "Gangsta Derevious would like to battle your mofo Pogeys"

-Better Reasons for Battling. "HEY, BATTLE WITH ME *******!" just won't cut it any more! "I need the money for my mom's surgery, so I'm battling some people."

-Mature storylines that don't involve Team __________. I mean, the whole "destroying the world" thing is very cliche. What about someone who kidnaps Pokemon for real, and uses them for genetic experiments? What about a Gym Leader who eats children? xD Ok, maybe not that, but whatever.

Parents are idiots.

If it's not Pokemon, it's something else: Harry Potter, music, television, etc.
