Can you please leave well enough alone? I think we should be beyond DBZ and focus more on the topic of this entire subforum. We've pointed out the similarities, and now we are done.
What I should mention is that Sonic should be appearing alone, because it's gonna be hard to incorporate all the Smashers into the SE, let alone letting Sonic partner with Mario and Knuckles be running off with Wario because he's been tricked... yet again.
What will be known, is that Jason Griffith, the scum(I hate him for just being Sonic's VA in the TV show, my hate intensified when he took Drummond's spot.), is the Voice actor for Sonic in Brawl, and he will be used because Sonic has a Voice, an active talking voice. Just Like Snake, Sonic will be actively speaking due to them both having Voice Actors. It's a guess, but it's a dang good one.
In any case, I wasn't talking about power level, (power level doesn't really exist in Sonic, only when the Emeralds Come into play), I was talking about character, in which Knuckles, the taciturn, reflective, violently secretive character is most like Piccolo.
As for the DBZ conversation, I think it's fine (seeing as the creators of Sonic admit to being influenced by DBZ) as long as we remember what the strip is supposed to be about.
And on that note, I wasn't saying he wouldn't have a role, he'll definitely have a role, just not a role that's too big... Consider that he and Snake are both guest characters, and think, "How big of a role would they give to Snake?" Then place that role, give or take a few, onto Sonic. Given, he'll have a bigger role than Snake, since he fits into the Nintendoverse better, but he still won't be a pivotal part, at least not more pivotal than any of the Nintento characters (as all parts are probably pivotal).

Well, I believe characters join the players' team when they are introduced (or at some other point) during SE, and then can be used as second player at any time... Those clips of Mario and Sonic fighting together of SE thus don't really say anything about his role in the storyline...

Amy is obviously Chi Chi, even to the fact that in DB when Kid Goku meets Chi Chi she talks about marrying him all the time.
Also how is Knuckles Piccolo, I see it more as Shadow and Knuckles both being Sonic's Vegeta in different aspects.

Couldn't help it. Anyway, I could see Sonic having something of a role in SSE. What would really rock my socks is if he was an antagonist, messing around with the heroes just to get his kicks. He's certainly got that kind of personality, and it would give us plenty of opportunity for some Mario Vs. Sonic matches. He'd be most kickass midboss since the one from Disgea.
If Sakurai was feeling particularly awesome, he could even give Sonic some character development near the end of the game. Example: He decides that he'd have more fun messing around with the Ancient Minister than Mario, or suchlike.
And don't try to say playable characters can't be bosses. Look at the ending of Dk's clip.

Its not that there is no reason to fight, its that everyone WANTS them to fight, but only to a certain level, its not like a death match but more like a lets fight to see whos better.
Its because of their popular status and 90's rivalry. You know Mario (Nintendo Pet) vs Sonic (Sega Pet)

Go to Newgrounds and search for Mario Vs. Sonic sprite movie. People always try to cram a story in there somehow. Although I'd rather not have 'Smack My ***** Up' playing in the background, personally.

Considering Fox and Diddy wind up fighting Rayquaza, SSE could practically go ANYWHERE. Imagine the cast of Fire Emblem thinking Sonic is some high level monster and going out to try and slay him, or Samus having to take down Eggman, who's kidnapped Micaiah or something equally random select.

I dunno if someone posted this yet but when sonic was confirmed for brawl there was a video of some gameplay of him too and in it it shows him with Mario in the SE.... just if u didnt know.

I think that 3rd party characters will be involved in some sort of "secret" pairings that will only occur when finishing some levels or events under certain conditions. It would be pretty cool methinks, to earn a Sonic/Mario team because you finished a critical stage exceptionally fast or something...

Sonic may not be THE star, but he is A star. perhaps not to sakuri or any of the programers, but because of how much he was requested by so many fans, he will be a star in the players eyes. or at least some of them. anyways, onto the topic at hand
Maybe im being weird here, over-rationalising game content, but has any1 heard of "Mario and sonic at the olympic games"? It seems as though sonic and friends have already come from mobius into a realm with the nintendo characters, or at least mario's gang.
Other than that, i like the theory of sonic being sucked to mario's world thru the worm hole created by the subspace bomb. It coulc alternatively have something to do with eggman or metal sonic coming to the nitendo world and sonic pursuing... i guess we'll have to wait til febuary to find out
IMHO, it is more likely than not that sonic and mario will be teamed up. Nintendo and sega seem to be on pretty good terms, they don't need their mascots to fight for superiority. Plus, we all know mario would win. It's just common sense. Nintendo wouldnt let their mascot lose to sonic on their own console.

Very true. We all love Sonic, but I was talking in terms of storyline. Like you said, he's not the star in the eyes of Sakurai or the programmers (Sakurai himself called Sonic and Snake "guests"), so he won't have a starring role. He will have a storyline, no doubt, and Mario and Sonic may team up, in cutscene or simply by choice in Team Mode, but we shouldn't be expecting a cutscene showing Mario and Sonic taking out the Subspace Emissary all by themselves for the climactic finish, his role isn't that big in this game. The storyline where he comes through the wormhole sounds pretty cool, though.

O.o actually, perhaps the "tie" thing might just happen. One of those "You're a good fighter and you're not evil....we should work together." Also....remember in the world of Japan, the main character isn't ALWAYS the best and they do lose from time to time. Reality sets in. ^_^ We won't know until it comes out, though, lol.

It would be cool if sonic and captain falcon teamed up. I would love to see the two competing to see whos the fastest. The video would be like this:
*in big blue*
*captain falcon wins another race and is waving to the crowd*
*then a screen appears 'Warning! Challenger Aproaching!'*
*sonic arrives at tremendous speed and taunts captain falcon*
*captain falcon smiles and hop in the blue falcon and says 'Show me your speed!'*

Well From what I saw The story mode lets you choose the path you take so possibly just like the choice to save the princess you save the hero's to .Possibly pit must save mario or sonic the other one is victim of a brain controll causing them to turn evil possibly METAl !?!?!?!

Except that Knuckles isn't a big brainless monkey who loves bananas and does suicide kills with his incredible grabs... although they both have one hell of a temper.
And before you ask, I DO respect DK, I main him in SSB64 and I occasionally play as him in Melee, and I'm looking forward to playing as him in Brawl. So it's all in good humor.

The DBZ conversation actually has some kind of merit because Sonic Team admits to being influence by DBZ, in addition to it being easier to make comparisons. There are little to no comparisons available for Sonic to Mario, because characters are so radically different. However, it's all in good humor, because we know that no series is in any way a carbon copy of another; they're all original.
