How do you fight Ike?

Hello, this is a thread designed to collect up-to-date info on Match-ups for the Ike boards, which is always in desperate need of good info.

I come to you today with a simple set of questions, attempting to get the "other side" of ideas pertaining to the Matchups against Ike. Its just a few simple questions I'm hoping to get answered;

1. What is your general opinion of Ike as a character?
2. What moves do you fear from Ike?
3. Which moves do not trouble you at all?
4. Which moves/techniques do you use against Ike to gain the advantage?
5. What specific edgeguards do you employ versus Ike?

Feel free to add anything else that doesn't fit into the questions criteria. The goal is to collect information, so anything s useful.

On a side note, I may feel the need to quote this info. If you don't wished to be quoted, please tell me in your posts, and I will not quote you.

1. He fights for his friends lol.
2. The ones that he manages to hit with. Specifically, the neutral A combo and his tilts.
3. His grabs and his specials.
4. Projectiles.
5. Projectiles.

Ike is bait for missle and chargeshot spam because of his lack of projectiles and slow, linear approach. He has trouble breaking out of Samus' midair combos because his aerials are all relatively laggy. His Side B recovery is easily gimped by missles. He's pretty easy for Samus, though most heavyweight, power based characters are. His biggest threat against Samus is his tilts, IMO. Aether can be a pain for an edgeguarding Samus, or one approaching from above. Your best bet is probably swatting her out of the air with a well timed smash attack and killing her approaches with tilts and jabs.

Dunno if that helps. Someone more experienced will probably give more elaborate info.

1. What is your general opinion of Ike as a character?

He's slow

2. What moves do you fear from Ike?

Bair, and foward smash, but the Fsmash is easy to avoid, and bair's are situational and good on all characters.

3. Which moves do not trouble you at all?

Any move with landing lag or after completion at all.

4. Which moves/techniques do you use against Ike to gain the advantage?

Zair, uncharged shots, Dtilts, Ftilts, Dash Attacks, UB's....he's too slow.

5. What specific edgeguards do you employ versus Ike?

Zair, uncharged shots, homing missiles. Or we can just grab the edge.



Slow character's can't be helped, when the game advances further they'll be nigh unplayable.

1. What is your general opinion of Ike as a character?

If you are playing a very fast ike... i get scared

2. What moves do you fear from Ike?

jab combo.Also, never EVER do a standing grab, missing = death

3. Which moves do not trouble you at all?

Forward B (Zair him right out of it)

4. Which moves/techniques do you use against Ike to gain the advantage?

SHFF homing missles all day and ZAIR... then downsmash out of shield when he does an attack

5. What specific edgeguards do you employ versus Ike?

I like to try to edge hog him because it's a fun challenge, the timing is hard, but you can quickly let go of the edge and grapple then pull yourself in and you will have invincibility frames and he wont grab or hit, if you get hit, SPAM up-b, you should live. Best edge guard is going completely off the stage and ZAIRing him, he wont be able to make it if you sweetspot your ZAIRs =D

I really don't have that much experience with Ikes, none of my people on my friends list main him somehow.

But this is a fantastic idea for a thread that I wish to steal, at the very least, I wish to see the Ike board's response to the opposite of this question.

I'm sorry but ANY slow character does not even stand a chance against an experienced samus (azen doesn't count!)

He's too strong, slow, and easy to spam.

2. What moves do you fear from Ike?

Foward+B and Up+A Smash.

3. Which moves do not trouble you at all?

The attacks that can't hit me.

4. Which moves/techniques do you use against Ike to gain the advantage?

Charge Shots, Missiles, Zair.

5. What specific edgeguards do you employ versus Ike?

Tethering and then grabbing the ledge, only to drop and use the Screw Attack. It's not always accurate.

Ike is so slow, you can shield anything he does, then come out and hit him. just repeat the process until he is dead.

samus' weakness is that she falls so slow and is so floaty. ike should use his large sword to his advantage. ur uair and utilt take precedent over any samus air move except for bomb spamming.

one thing that my brother does with ike that really pisses me off is that he charges his B move when ike is falling. it hits me nomatter where i am if i am near him. the only thing i can do is a zair, but it is risky to do because if i dont distance myself, i get hit.

--Super Armor man. Slow moving, fast+slow+laggy attacks. Awesome japanese voice actor. Screw the english voice actor.

2. What moves do you fear from Ike?

--Jab combo, usmash, utilt, aether, eruption, bair, fair.

3. Which moves do not trouble you at all?

--Everything else.

4. Which moves/techniques do you use against Ike to gain the advantage?

Zair, uair, fair, screw attack, charge shot, missiles, bombs, utilt. ORLY's technique.

5. What specific edgeguards do you employ versus Ike?

Projectiles, zair, bombs, or just jump in his face+airdodge.

1. What is your general opinion of Ike as a character?
slow, far knockback, off-beat recovery,

2. What moves do you fear from Ike?
neutral A combo, aerials, all his smashes could kill, but probably too slow, tilts i guess...

3. Which moves do not trouble you at all?
all moves bother me they hurt me

4. Which moves/techniques do you use against Ike to gain the advantage?
with samus, id run+ projectile spam, wait for him to use a move

5. What specific edgeguards do you employ versus Ike?
im bad i don't edgeguard well/correctly

"prepare yourself" sounds exactly like Anakin Skywalker ^^
really strong though.... but samus fares pretty well at distance (zairs especially) and in recovery... most of his best moves don't set him up for combos.. but I really hate the eruption attack and his up smash.
