How do you classify whether someone is spamming?

Just as the title says.

This is a definite gray area right here.

My tournament does not have many pros joining, so I would expect the newbies to be spamming against each other, (Pros will find a way to turn their spam against them.)

I am banning spamming in the tournaments, but what constitutes spamming? Using the same move for an entire minute does, but what about using lucarios massive energy ball 10 times in a row or something? It would be better if someone could give a list of all characters and say what a spam is for each one.

Thanks for any help!

Edit: Better yet, I should compile a list right here of all the different excessive spams.
Edit again: Why do I have the feeling that my thread topic has already been done to death?

Short answer: Nobody ever bans "spamming". So there's no "definition" for it.

1). Tournaments operate by-and-large on a "Play-to-win" mentality, and banning something like "spamming" is completely against that.
2). Like you said, "spamming" is a vague concept.
3). I don't understand why you want to ban spamming anyway...

I want to ban spamming because once the pros figure out that the newbies are susceptable(sp?) to spamming, they will definately use it and not make it very fun for the newbies (Bahrainis are like that, not to be racist or anything...)

There must be some way to atleast limit spam!

it feels like I'm discussing philosophy! Everything is so vague!

Hell, if i knew that i was playing someone who can't dodge falco's lasers very well, I'd spam the hell out of him!

I love gray areas!

if they aren't exposed to spam then you are doing yoru smash community a disservice by leaving them vulnerable if they want to ever compete in other regions

if it's not fun for other people that they lose to bull**** then they shouldn't be playing competitively anyway

scrub tournies lol
Don't ban that. Its a legit strategy. If they're too stupid to get around it that's their problem

Besides, the point isn't to have fun. It's to win

What the hell? This thread is still here? I thought for sure that it would be lost in the archives of time by now.
