If the game is so slow, why are you dying so much? In a group of four no less.

In order to do ANYTHING other than fighting, you need to put your weapon away. I cant heal/gather/stop burning/sharpen without putting down my weapon. Once i do that, all of those things have start up animation and ending animation. Just makes the game slow.

Is there a weapon that comes out fast, puts up fast and attacks fast? The bow and lance SUCK

i aint bad. i have 86 pieces of raw meat. that means i have literally mastered the game. which consists of killing and carving.

The weapon you probably want is the sword and shield. You can even use potions without putting it away. I already explained this, though. Bow is extremely fast in terms of how many attacks you can keep shooting and your mobility, and is extremely accurate (as is the lance). So accurate you actually have to aim! Lance isn't that mobile but it's stupidly good at both offense and defense. When you stand, you can immediately shield attacks, and counter oncoming attacks as well. Also if you read the instruction manual, you'd figure out that you can instant-block when you take out your weapon (R + X + A). Lance is seriously one of the best DPS weapons in the game. It puts most other to shame and is great at elemental and status ontop of it. But I can understand if you think it feels clunky. All the extra animations are to prevent bad players from spamming items. After you know what to do and get your farm going, you rarely have to gather anything, and ontop of that, there are armor sets and tricks to gathering faster. Crouch between gathering and you won't stand up every time. I really don't get why you are giving this game a hard time when PSO is just as slow and you love that.

It depends on what you want/need in terms of if you should upgrade/forge. I would give you a rundown of this but A) You wouldn't read it and then ask a million times anyways and B) You need to have a plan in mind for me to recommend anything, like what weapon you're gonna be using. (pssst David isn't a computer nerd)

I knew you could guard and slowly walk towards charizard but i didnt know you can COUNTER so how do u do that?

So to instant block i press r+x+a at the same time?

Crouch between gathering and you won't stand up every time. I really don't get why you are giving this game a hard time when PSO is just as slow and you love that.

PSO you can level up and level up your pet.
PSO you can get swords like the Yamato that hit 5-6 times.
PSO you can get SUPER fast and SUPER slow weapons.
PSO you can lock on to stuff.

ok yeah i dont have a plan on what i want for a weapon. at first i wanted what i like in a game (range) but the bow sucks. I then wanted to be like Kain from FF4 but lances sucks. Ill try to be Link like you recommend.

Yes you still have to go through the same animation unless you get armor skills that let you eat/drink faster (but those are a waste). You don't have to run far away to use items, just wait for the monster to commit to a laggy move and use an item, or wait until it's preoccupied with ChaCha or whatever teammates you have.

That's because you're bad, it's okay, you'll come around eventually.

Sword and shield also requires you to upkeep lots of weapon types because they depend on status/elemental. They have weak raw damage. Good for group play, imo.

I understand and sympathize that the game does a crappy job explaining how to effectively use weapondry (i.e. what moves do the most damage, what to use, etc). There IS a moveset list in the manual though and like I said before, you don't understand how bows work. Yes, they in general have subpar damage, but let me explain how they work: See that yellow bar? That's your stamina meter. Charging shots for your bow drains stamina. When you run out of stamina, you will fire automatically. Different bows have different charge attacks. In general the more you charge it (most bows have 3 levels, some have 2, some have 4) the more damage your shot will do. So to use the bow effectively you have to constantly be charging shots and paying attention to your stamina. Ontop of that the optimal distance for most coats (power, status, etc) is about two rolls away from the monster. This multiplies the damage. If you hit at the top of your arc (which is accurate, by the way) it also does more damage. Pierce is slightly farther away, close range coatings effect and buff your melee attack. Power coatings are the best coating, but not all bows have it. They increase your damage by 50%. That is amazing. You also need to aim at the appropriate part of the monster (usually, but not always, the face).

So to do the most damage you want to fully charge your shots, be two rolls away, use power coatings and aim so the top of the arc hits the monster. For large monsters you want to use pierce shots if your bow has them (would be specific level of charge) to aim down the body of the monster. For status/exhaust shots it is more effective to use your arrow rain attack (charge with X, aim, hit A to volley) since it hits more times. Aim exhaust for the head and you can even KO monsters with the bow. Using the proper element is also a must, which means using lots of bow sets. Volleys and arrows can hit and trip your teammates, so you have to be careful. This is a lot to do and keep up with at once, especially when coatings cost money and bows overall are slightly underpar. This, along with the fact they use gunner armor, makes them an advanced weapon for advanced players. That's what I tried to tell you before.

Okay, lemme walk you through what you can do with the lance and how to do it. First let me explain that the instant guard is going from when you don't have the weapon out into guard mode. Any weapon with a shield can do this, and yes it's R+X+A. If you already have the weapon out and get say, knocked down, you can just hold R and you'll shield as soon as you get up. Lances moveset include the stab where you get out your weapon, a frontal stab(X), an upwards stab (A), a sweep (X+A), shield (R), shield rush (while holding R and a direction, hit X), a guard poke (horrible, but hold R and no direct, hit X), a shield bash (hits X again during a shield rush, this does impact damage and can KO monsters), a charge attack (X+R+A with a weapon out), and you the charge by hitting A to attack or B to just stop. To counter, hold R and hit A. If you hold it down you will stand in place and try to counter for about a second, if you tap it you will counter for like not even half a second and do an upwards stab.

As far as damage goes, dash attack finishing bow > counter stab > upwards stab > regular stab/draw attack > shield bash > shield poke > sweep attack > dash attack

The idea is to either stab upwards twice, counter, then keep upstabbing, or stab upwards three times, sidestep, upstab. You can counter anything, including roars, gusts of wind, etc. Some attacks require armor skills to counter. You can shield advance through things like fireballs safely. You can shield bash into regular pokes into upwards pokes. You should only use the dash attack to inflict status on fallen monsters. It isn't to move around or for normal hits. When playing with other people who are spread out, lance has to put their weapon away a lot to move around. If you are playing with good people who stay close to the monster or are soloing, you should rarely have to put away your weapon and can stay up close the entire time. Stamina is really important for a lancer.

Go talk to the head cat and check the haul, send your mushrooms to your item box and continue the process. Do blue mushrooms, honey, and thunder/flash bugs to start.
