No seeds? Randomness?! Sounds like my tourneys.

Online isn't much of a big deal for seeds at the moment because right now you don't know half these people well enough to judge them on their skill level.

That's the thing: I have been taking notes on the OTL and I actually know where people stand relative to others in this thread.

Offline tournaments are seeded in the way they are because they are usually double elimination. If you put a scrub/random/noob by a pro in winners, then technically all the pros should advance in winners. The scrubs/randoms/noobs should be able to get at least another round in during losers, so that they also get a chance to advance far into the bracket.

With single elimination, I feel that it is sometimes difficult to seed according to skill. You could seed pro vs. scrub/random/noob, but then the lower skilled player doesn't really get a chance to redeem themselves, and that could potentially discourage them from entering future tournaments. Of course that argument could be easily countered by saying that it could inspire them or make them more determined to get better, but the thought is there. Random seeding makes it so that everyone has a random chance of winning (or something like that.) People can easily get screwed over by it, but it seems like the fairest way of allowing the newer players to have a chance at playing more than one match. I remember one time at my school we decided to do random seeding, and all the op seeds were on the same side of the bracket. My finals match was my easiest one of that day.

Note that every TO is not perfect. All of them make mistakes from time to time including offline ones.

Then perhaps future online tournaments should be double elimination. Though I wish I knew how to do that... *has never been to an offline tourney before*

Where do I stand in your notes? Lol.
In a 16 person bracket by skill, you would be a 1-5 seed, depending on the competition. Speaking of which...

Excellent points made here. If you don't mind, I wouldn't mind addressing a few of them.

Yes, most offline tourneys are double elimination. My apologies for not mentioning this to begin with. Even if there were to be a single elimination for some god-forsaken reason, my money would be on it being seeded by skill still. With good reason too. It ensures the fairest outcome. Now with an OTL, you also have to factor in things like geography as well, so sometimes I bracket I make might pair two international players together to reduce the odds of a coin flip.

Now, as for seeding people fairly in a single elimination: I have already alluded to this, but it's worth repeating: As of my writing this, I am currently in the works to constructing an OTL Power Rankings list. I basically keep track of all the people who have played in tourneys here, look @ their placings, and make a list. I plan to send this to the brass (Chaco right?) along with an updated OTL tourney list (since Gamingblack doesn't want to work with me) during my time off.

Oh, and I have also had the pleasure of playing a large number of people here, so I kinda have an idea of who is good and who isn't (relative to me @ least. :ohwell:.)

Then perhaps future online tournaments should be double elimination. Though I wish I knew how to do that... *has never been to an offline tourney before*
I got your help, homes. Ask me and I'll gladly give you a hand.

Additionally, a large number of my Grand-Prix tourneys (liking starting up again around New Year's) will be double elimination.

I told you, I take care of my peeps. :bigthumbu

As for Mini Mod #3, I was going to have it, but when I got back to Athens, there were 5 tourneys going on @ the same time. I didn't want to overdo it, so I will be back with a new tourney sometime around the New Year's.

So, I am officially calling shenanigans on this bracket. Why should a potential 3 seed (myself) be playing a one seed (PMGW) in the first round!?!?! That's like DEHF playing Mike Haze in the prelims for Pound 4.

When you seed by skill, such instances never happen. Random seeding is truly unfair to all who are involved in it. It isn't what a tourney should be, a test of skill, but rather a test of luck.

So, I hereby forfeit my matches. I won't do another OTL with random seeding again...I just want this to be known now.

Kthxbye. ;)
Fair enough. I DQ'd you and mcmuff1n man will take your place. Mcmuff1n man. You might wanna PM professor MGW about this.

I won against moot 2-1, however i have no idea how the set would have went offline. The lag could be classified as unplayable

Confirmed. We'll have to do friendlies sometime and hopefully we can see how it goes without all the lag :)
