I know that a lot of people will make the argument that if they were going to have any character, Kunio has a better shot by being a bigger deal in Japan. They are probably right, but I feel like at least personally, I believe they would get a bigger reaction as a hardcore old school choice than Ryu or Bill Rizer does. I understand Ryu has had triple-a games, and Double Dragon has not exactly found relevancy since the days of Battletoads and Double Dragon, but I still believe they have stupid influence.
I feel pretty confident in saying they at least have a shot. The two of them get top billing in a Switch compilation pack that features three of their games and fifteen Kunio games. Yes, pop culture knows Kunio-Kun as 'River City Ransom' and not Kunio, but they could have added 'River City' in America somewhere and capitalized on River City GIrls, but they did not. I'm probably just delusional, but in my eyes, they are both the next big 'retro rep' I would add, if we were to get another, and the face of the beat-em-up genre for me. That on top of the fact they have a movie, a cartoon series, a ton of cameos, I feel they are a dark horse pick. I wouldn't throw them out at all.
Specifically, I want an Abobo spirit battle, as well. I mean, come on.
