I mained Mario is Smash 64, I mained Mario (and Doctor) in Melee.

And now I'm using him in Brawl.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

Wait... if you mained Mario in the prequels, why are you saying you're new to him? Also, are you looking for some advice of some kind or just introducing yourself?
New in Brawl.

And yes to both of those second ones, but more so on the introduction.

Wishing Apex 2012 happened again.
If your new though you've played melee and 64, so welcome to the brawl Mario boards! Mario may have took some changes but not signficant ones compared to melee. There's various techiques about him which make's him self different compared to melee/64. For obvious instance, fludd which just spits out water and pushs back the oppenent. Great way to edgeguard and cape. Hope you enjoy the brawl mario :]

Really? I can't use FLUDD effectively, I may rely too much on the cape. Anyway, hopefully one day you will become one of the Mario greats and prove that he is, as they say, high tier.

where ever I please,im a f***in boss!!
ok wassup dude......mario is the appitamy of what smash really is.....mario is basically like a janitor....he has no counters and he counters no one he remains the same......the pros about mario...

he is....

+he is a combo addict
+his gimping abilitys are amazing
+he is not to light and not to heavy so staying alive is ok
+projectile fireballs
+cape
+and amazing side taunt were he takes of his hat and bows to the crowd XD.....

cons

-mario's recovery isn't that great leaving him gimpable
-he can be chaingrab/infinited T_T
-there are possible matchups but most of the time they are not on his side
-can die at early percentages.

you hafe to play it out as if every stock is your last...mindgame is a big key....and SH'Bairs are amazing......

FLUDD-ike,kirby,marth,toon link, gannon, etc are more easy to fludd then others....

in conclusion have fun playing mario and your reslutls will skyrocket...trust me....

I don't know about that, EarthWindandFire. Based from my experience, I've always managed to break out chain=grabbed by using UP-B AKA super punch.

Here's a simple tip: Mario gets chain-grabbed to eternity by D3.

..hope you score high at tournaments.
Against infinite grab match ups, people almost always become grab whores so it actually becomes easier to predict their movements. With King Dedede usually being grab whores as it is (he's one of my mains and I know I am ), this definately helps. Still a hard match up though.
