I remember being so happy after beating Ghosts and Goblins until the game sent you back to the first stage. I didn't know you had to beat every stage twice to get the ending.

This exaclty what I thought of when that happened to me.

Ever time some one gets the to "end" of Ghost and Goblins and realizes they are only half way, a little piece of their soul dies.

I wanna be the Guy the hardest game that I have played,

Before playing I wanna be the Guy, I would have said the second quest in first Legend of Zelda.

I Wanna be the Guy is a ton of frustration in a small package, vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_LXyvVylDg,

and you can download it here: http://kayin.pyoko.org/iwbtg/downloads.php
I'm glad to see this game mentioned, actually.

Very first Metroid game was hard and the system where you have to die in order to save your game is just pain in the ***...

From the more "modern" games, I´d say Devil May Cry 3. It´s very hard on Dante must die difficulty, but still pleasant to play because if you die, it´s mostly because your own lack of skills or consentration.

I'd have to say the first Mega Man game. No password system, no E-tanks, and the Yellow Devil. I managed to beat it, and boy was it satisfying. I'm having a lot of fun with 9 right now.

Simply because the enemies could spam uber moves that hit for 2k+ with nor egard for MP or anything.

and IWBTG is break your fingers difficult.

And if anyone has heard of it, Yugioh Reshef of Destruction
I never beat that game. They gave you crap cards at the beginning, didn't they?

Another game I found extremely hard was Fire Emblem 5. Too many fog of war maps.

Hmm lets see I have some pretty difficult games under my belt I remember playing.

Megaman 1 - yellow devil.....**** you!

Street fighter - with zangief lol

TMNT - is definitely up there though after awhile it got pretty easy for me.

Gauntlet - is considered pretty hard but I love that game to no end. It took long as **** seriously to beat. Probably one of the longest times for beating a game.

Blaster master - had no save system and no password system

Ninja gaiden - for me wasn't that to hard honestly, I'd still put it up there though.

any contra game - lol contra 4 is the easiest for me though.

Paperboy - Never made it to friday...I know there may be some fanboys for this game but honestly who likes this ****ing game that much?

battletoads - the TMNT ripoff lol. My best friend and I tried to beat this game everyday after school for about 2 years I would say and we finally did it. R.I.P. Goban.

F-zero GX - Man I almost had that game beat and then I deleted my file for some weird reason and now i'm back at the annoying casino part....

E.T. - That was just annoyingly hard because of the infinite amount of glitches and bull****.

Alright hardest game EVER...that I STILL haven't finished playing.

Silver Surfer for NES. It was named the hardest game in the 8-bit era on a number of top 10 ten lists.

Basically:

You fly around on Silver's board thing shooting stuff out of your hand. You have a life bar, but it doesn't really matter because you die in one hit anyways. You die from getting hit by ANYTHING. Obstacles, enemies, enemy gunfire, walls, ceilings, floors.......

Did I mention that there are always like 3 enemies on the screen at any given time spamming stupid amounts of blaster stuff at you. Like, during boss levels its almost impossible not to die a single time.

I think I forgot to mention that when you die, you have to start the WHOLE LEVEL OVER AGAIN.

Fun, Fun, Fun.

Its for NES, but I have it on emulator. If you guys want a challenge you should really try it. Its soo hard but fun at the same time. Like fighting Sheik with Kirby..

>_>

I've noticed that everyone who thinks MM 1 is hard is because of the Yellow Devil. I think there was a poll on IGN saying that 50 percent of people who's never beaten the game got stuck at Yellow Devil.

That was one reason. The deck capacity/card cost bull**** is what was the worst for me. It wouldn't have been that bad if you earned it faster, but you got like 1 point for each win. So basically everyone you duel has monsters with +500 more attack than yours. To "make up for it," they made the game extremely tedious.

It's hardly even worth beating anyway. I beat it finally after about 2 years of on-off playing & was disappointed with the Hall of Eternity. Everyone in there has hax cards, infinite deck capacity, insane luck, & ridiculously high LP (30000-60000).

Tetris......lol

Personally, anything that forces you to finish the game 100% or else you start all over again. (EX. Metroid Prime Series)

Yeah it was by far the hardest part for me. Never mind Dr. Wily, never mind those annoying *** platforms in Guts Man's stage, the Yellow Demon ***** until you could time your jumps over his globs perfectly.

F-Zero GX story mode I would agree with too. I can't even make it past the second stage (darn ticket system).
