I live in San Clemente (about 20 minutes south of Irvine) I can drive though. I'm free everyday (Summer Vacation) and can bring a cube if necessary.

Few ON-TOPIC questions because this tourney is actually looking pretty legit.

1. Is anyone bringing a power-strip?

2. Is anyone going to commentate /slash/ Will someone have the means to make commentating possible?

3. Low-tier or three-man crews would be amazing, we would definitely have time to do it assuming the tournament is run smoothly and all the TVs are initially used for Melee.

4. I will money match anyone who isn't Mango, Zhu, or Lucky. I have a lot of secondaries that I will use if you wish (we will iron out the details either here or at the tourney), you don't have to MM my main.

1: Yep, there should be 3 power strips if everyone brings what they said they would :)

2: Basically, whoever wants to do it can do it provided that they don't suck...I don't know what means we have for commentating, but it won't be a big issue unless a lot of people WANT an "official" commentary of important matches, then we'll do our best to have something to record it with.

3: Honestly, I think we'll have time for both. This tournament still doesn't SEEM very big (my guess is around 30-35 tops), but it's still hard to say though. We'll make sure the tournament runs as efficiently as possible, and we'll try to make the side events (64 tournament in particular) run as smoothly as the main one.

4: Remember stab's (unexplained) rule that you can't really exchange money with other people within the venue, LOL
Be sure to keep transactions out of sight, outdoors preferably.

also...we're gonna see how this one goes, but there's a possibility that this may become something along the lines of a monthly or a triweekly if it goes well?

I doubt that the other rules will really have much of an impact on anything, but it is irksome.

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS ABOUT 64

1) are any tourney games being played on the wii? (I was once forced to do this in 64 tourney even though i brought a legit setup, I want to make sure it wont ever happen again before signing up)

2) Is there stage banning in 64?

does your father and the man in the corner know about the $5 entry fee?
They do not, it's why we're planning to do tournament registration outdoors...mms will be tough to figure out, but just keep it secret or just exchange the actual money outdoors if you want haha

1: There will be both n64s there and Wiis with s64 on them. We'll figure out the details for it once we know how many 64-capable setups we have available, but I do know that there will also be a couple n64s. Matches will be decided by player preferences and/or ladder positions (only problem I see is that a lot of people entering prefer their matches on the wii...), so I don't really know what to say to that at this point. We will try to avoid that situation as best we can, but there are no guarantees.

2: There is no stage banning for 64.

actually, stab, copy these 64 rules into your original post. pirated from smashwiki because I know jack **** about competitive 64 rules.

"Generally best 2 out of 3 (using 3 out of 5 or sometimes 4 out of 7 for finals)
Double Elimination
5 stock
10 minute time limit, if it is possible, most emulators don't have time limit
Items are turned off
Handicaps are off
The first match is selected randomly excluding Yoshi's Island, Sector Z, Planet Zebes, and Mushroom Kingdom.
The loser of each match picks the stage for the next match excluding the illegal stages listed above.
If Saffron City is selected on the first round and one of the players is using Ness, he or she may request a re-pick.
However, if the Ness player wins the match, his/her opponent may counterpick Saffron City.
The loser cannot choose a stage on which a previous match was played (known as "Dave's stupid rule"). Due to the low number of allowed stages in this game, this is often weakened to the loser cannot choose the stage on which the last match was played.
For the first match, characters are chosen double-blind - at the same time, so that neither player knows their opponent's character beforehand.
Players may re-pick characters after each match. However, the loser of each match gets to pick last (known as slob picks)."

I have recording equipment however it doesn't record sound, only sound from the mic.

Also, I'm not that into 64 so I'll go by whatever rule set the really good ssb64 players want because they probably know best.

And I'm not kidding about rule number 6, the guy works there so don't **** with him.

I would like to commentate if people don't mind.

I think we need more than three.

I dunno, it seems pretty legit. I think 30 should be a safe estimate. 40 and we're talking as big as any non-major tourny gets.

**** yes

I doubt anyone minds, we'd be happy to have an actual commentator who knows what he's talking about.

I can actually bring a powerstrip too, haha

hopefully we don't underestimate the amount of people showing up and then aren't prepared, but I think we're relatively safe at this point.

oh man, i'd be so happy if this became a monthly tournament

Smashwiki is always wrong, don't rely on it for anything.

The above rules are ridiculous. 10 minute time limit for 64 LOL. WTF is up with that Ness counterpick ****. And you are allowed to go back to the same stage if either,
1. You haven't won on it yet
or
2. If you have won, if your opponent agrees to play on it again you can pick it

EDIT - hey also I have a LOT of good secondaries including Fox, Marth, Falco, Falcon, etc. and More depending on your skill level so everyone MM me too ^^
