"Why is the Genesis 2 Bus, important to Oats?"
Simple answer: Because it is.
I spoke with my sister over the phone after I posted the donation vid on youtube. She caught it on facebook and asked me how I was going to fund the bus, because we're still $3000 short.
I pitched a couple of plans but nothing really stuck. And then I said the few, wrong words that really set her off: "maybe I'll just borrow some or something or pay it myself, I don't know, I'm out of ideas, to be honest."
She was livid. She was furious. You have to understand that most of the members of my family have to deal with money problems or are pretty bad about handling money, and at any sign of me falling into that category and being irresponsible, my sister is quick to set it straight because she genuinely loves me.
"What kind of kick are you getting out this? Who the **** are these people? Why does it matter so much?"
I lost my train of thought, lost my cool, and really just felt bad. I couldn't explain to her why I loved doing things like this. Why I decided to drive to West Coast Smash League in late 2008 with TKD, GhettoSoldier, Stauffy, and Nyjin in my car. I barely knew any of them at the time, and I wasn't particularly close to them, but we made it work, TKD beat all of California and some OOSers, and that was that adventure.
I couldn't explain to her why I did the first Genesis Bus. Why I did the flight to Pound 4. Why I drove to MLG. Why I helped organize Chula Vista 20. Or any of that really. I'm not particularly good at the game. I'm only marginally notable for using a low-tier character mediocrely. I really can't tell you why I like to do any of these things other than that it makes me happy.
It makes happy to help the community, and to be there to welcome people, and to be there to say goodbye. It makes happy to have a good-time doing something I love to do, and to share that experience with others. At this point in my life, nothing is more gratifying than my experiences with this community, and it's really hard to translate that to someone that just does not know.
The Genesis 2 Bus is important to me because it just is. We're going to have movies, we're going to have music, we're going to have stories, and games, and bonding, and relaxing trip to the best tournament of the year and back. We'll be able to watch the good players compete, and able to learn from them, congratulate them, boo them, or just talk about them behind their backs on the long road back.
There is nothing more satisfying than pursuing something you love, experiencing it, and then rewarding yourself with a long ride home.
For those of you that enjoyed the first ride to Genesis on the bus, there's no harm in bragging about why it was so good for you. I know many of us have had money problems, or we're short on cash or whatever our excuse is. I'm pretty sure I've seen people complaining since March when really, you had 4 months to take advantage, save, TALK TO ME, and figure it out.
But I'm here now, and I'm going to make this happen. At this point, it's not even for myself anymore. It's for the 20 or so people that have invested in me, and want to see it happen as well.
We're $3000 short. That's our goal for the next week and a half. If you have $20 bucks, just take the time and donate. Eating leftovers for a couple of days is not going to kill you, and you'll make a lot of us happy. Plus, we have rewards too.
If you want to buy your ticket, and you want to go, and you want to experience the awesome... http://www.marceux.com/bustickets.html
