Honestly, I didn't know where to post this. So I just made a thread for it. Anyway, Cliff Bleszinki, the creator of Gears of War, claimed that he can fix Resident Evil. Capcom Replies with "Bring Pizza." It may have been just a joke from Capcom's end, but if there really is any serious intent behind the posts those of you who disagree with the actionization of current Resident Evil titles are pretty much screwed.

Anyway, sauce: http://www.gamesradar.com/cliffy-b-wants-fix-resident-evil-capcom-says-bring-pizza/

Cliffy B makes everything he touches worse.

He had a lot of input into Gears 2 multiplayer and that travesty is the worst online game I've ever played.

Capcom doesn't seem to have any idea on what to do with the their franchises, I think they're worst than SEGA sometimes.

I would complain about how there's no Power Stone 3 but I don't feel like having to buy Super Power Stone 3 Ultimate a year after the original comes out.

You know what would've made that a lot better? If it was on 3DS instead.
Pretty much anything with buttons really, haha. TBH, I wouldn't be against an iOS Mega Man if they did it right (and still made traditional MM games). Battle Network and Star Force styled games would work perfectly fine with just a touch screen.

I feel like Capcom's way worse than Sega. They pretty much killed off all of their successful franchises by running it into the ground or alienating their fanbase. I don't think any of their old series came out without a scratch and is still good besides Monster Hunter or Phoenix Wright.

Sega's just... mostly poor lol. I guess they did make a lot of bad Sonic games and screwed up Nights.

It also doesn't help that while they might have revived fighting games they also brought back that "$40 dollar patch" thing from the GEN/SNES days.

I really see RE becoming less about jump scares and more about shooting scary monsters just kind of natural evolution. It really was the first mainstream horror title, and RE4, despite everyone loving it to death, basically set the model for modern mainstream horror games *coughdeadspacecough.*

I never really saw why people hated Journey of Dreams so much. Yeah, playing with the wiimote is balls but the game is fine with a classic controller. SEGA's issue is more that they refuse to bring any mainstream attention to any game they make outside of Sonic.

Does re even really need to be fixed? I believe the old games are master pieces, they normally have a good story, and I liked it when the gameplay was based on assessing threats and resource management. The sad truth is a crumby action game will sell better than even the best survival horror games, so good luck to cliff. He'll need it to convince Capcom that they did in fact make a bad game, especially after its made them millions.

The funny thing about RE even is that wasn't there that portable one on a boat that was supposed to be really good and a return to the 'old roots'?

As for all their old games, I'd agree that all they seem to focus on are the VS games, and Street Fighter. I remember when we had Breath of Fire (which is an amazing series), when they did Mega Man right, when it felt like they could take anything all over and just make it good. Hell, I miss the old RE (yes, with the tank controls and bad voice acting), the original Devil May Cry, Strider, Final Fight, UN Squadron, Saturday Night Slam Masters, Dino Crisis (1-2), Onimusha, the SF Alpha series, CVS (how crossover fighters SHOULD be done), the Mega Man X series, and when they'd do fun crossovers (like, apparently they made a shooter called "Cannon Spike" where you play as Cammy, BB Hood, Charlie, and Mega Man).

But well, it just seems like in a lot of non SF or Marvel cases they're just riding things out.

Resident Evil Revelations, which I have played.

And if by roots you mean wandering around an abandon cruse ship for two levels then HEY GUYS REMEMBER HOW COOL CHRIS IS HERE'S PARTS WITH HIM OH YEAH AND TWO OTHER DUDES YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT SHOOTING STUFF.

The only thing I want from Capcom is Rival Schools 3.

I heard that the creator of RE is working on a new horror game. I hope it does well, and that horror game Routine. But overall horror genre is pretty bad now.

I heard it was really great. A lot of the old fans seemed to have enjoyed it.
I'm interested in playing it eventually because of that. RE6 doesn't interest me at all.

80's and 90's Capcom was pretty godlike. Even early 2000 was pretty good despite some bad games like MMX7 and stuff.
I feel like once they hit the gen after that, they felt like an entirely different company.

I still like some of their new games (mostly fighters), but it doesn't have the same magic like you'd expect from Capcom games.
I'm looking forward to EX Troopers though if that ever makes it out west. Lost Planet Monster Hunter style sounds fun.

It's silly is that they paired all of the old-timers with new characters. Who the **** is Helena Harper, and why isn't Claire, Jill, or Chris Leon's partner instead?

Overall, the game is a lot of fun. Lots of design decisions I disagree with (the over-emphasis on QTEs, the new skill system, the ****ing awful as **** plot and narrative), but I've put like 60 hours into RE6 and I have no regrets.

I think having this Gears of War guy on their development team could be a good thing. I'd prefer Resident Evil to feel like more of a horror game, but if they're going to make it an action game, they could benefit from hiring people who are experienced in creating action games.

You make a really good point, there. Honestly, I never thought RE was scary. To me, it was the first mainstream horror game. Spooky enough to be horror but still had enough action and non-horror themes (I.E. you play as an elite bad *** and you never feel like you're absolutely helpless) to appeal to a wider audience.

I think RE is probably better off as an action game with ugly enemies than a true horror game. I don't think there was ever a time when I legitimately dreaded turning a corner or opening a door in a RE game.

I think they could reach a happy medium. There's no denying that RE4 was an action game, but parts of it (especially the beginning) felt like Survival Horror. Survival Horror isn't really about fear so much as tension. In REmake, I was most scared when I was low on ammo, low on health, and had to backtrack through an area I knew was infested with zombies. Or worse, had to go through an area I was totally unfamiliar with. In RE4, you're most afraid at the beginning, because El Salvador busts through your door with a ****ing chainsaw and all you have is a pistol and maybe a shotgun. And also the rest of the villagers are trying to murder the **** out of you. And they're speaking Spanish.

Dead Space maintained an atmosphere of horror while still utilizing a contemporary control scheme. The sequel did not do as good a job, but still did all right. Resident Evil 6, on the other hand, was a complete joke in that regard. The only time I was scared was reading the journals you get from acquiring the Serpent Emblems, and this is because it actually worsens the story by elaborating on the plot. I kid you not: "The Family" is basically the RE-Universe "Illuminati."

But I doubt they'll try and reach a medium. They've gone full action game, and I don't think there's any turning back. So **** it; throw the "fans" a bone by including throwbacks to the old games (similar to Leon's campaign but less sucky, and maybe include some puzzles that don't suck next time), but maintain the action-game motif, and bring in some people who are actually familiar with the TPS/action game genre.

Or better yet, give up on Resident Evil and give us Megaman X9 already. ****.
