I know it sounds extremely weird, but can't help to think... Wouldn't it be better for lefties to use controllers with the joystick for the right hand and the action buttons for the left hand? I think their game could be improved if they ivented this, eventhough I doubt it'll ever happen.

Maybe they can unleash their full potential by using a controller with the controls flipped.
I just feel it's unfair for lefties to HAVE to deal with stuff that might be uncomfortable at first.

But of course if they're used to the normal control then fock it. But still, it'll be fun to use a flipped controller, what do you guys think?

Why would there be a "left-handed" anything that required two hands to use?

Maybe it is just because I'm not left-handed and have played left-handed smashers before that were good, but something tells me it isn't entirely necessary. Or useful.

protip: can openers (for example) take both hands yet are available in left-handed versions

and i'm left-handed yet honestly don't see the benefit of having the stick under the right thumb, hell i even find L awkward to use while playing smash

Wouldn't the standard controller be better for lefties anyways? The left hand for lefties is more dextrous than the right, so you would have much better control that way.

Being left handed, I totally think a southpaw controller would be awesome. I can't even use the Wii remote for the life of me.

Im left handed and I notice no advantage to right handers when it come to controllers. As a matter of fact I prefer to control my movements with my good hand the left then mash buttons with it.

The only prolbem a lefty or righty would have is if they never used a controller to play video games.

Eh??? The Wiimote can be used left handed or right handed, just switch you Nunchucks and Wiimote around... They are basically the same...

As for left handed GC controllers, I think I recall seeing someone having one (or was that for a different system?) but I can't see why left handed people need their gamepads to be switched around... Movement/tilt in Smash is very important to the game, so left hander should have the upper advantage with that since the control stick is at the left side... I still have slight problems with Up Tilt attacks because I try to slowly tilt it upward... Because I do it slowly, usually miss my chances and then have to forget about it...

I agree very much. Even Nintendo said that some non-gamers liked holding the Wii's nunchuk in their right hand (main hand on control stick) despite being right-handed (main hand with Wiimote).

I never really thought about that before, a leftie controller sounds kinda interesting...
I definitely felt like switching hands with the wiimote, but i never really noticed with the gc controller, it seemed almost easier if not the same to use the normal right handed controller.

Seanson is saying that it would be a personal preference, I believe. Do you want your strong hand controlling where you are, or what you do? Do you want it mashing buttons rapidly, or keeping the lever precisely where it needs to be. I'm lefty, and I like that I have the stick on the left. I just wish the control stick was easier to short-hop with, then I'd be set.

i'm left handed, if anything i'd have a better hand for the control stick than speed. i play falco / fox as well, i can waveshine as fast -- if not faster -- that *most* people. plus if you're left handed, you can moonwalk better =)

mm i'd like to try a reverse controller just to see what it feels like, but i personally think the controller is fine as it is

I'm personally right handed, but I've changed which hand I was "dominant" with several times. Spend like a week writing only with your opposite hand. Eventually, you'll learn how, and your handwriting won't look any different from someone left handed by nature. Same with anything. For a few weeks, use your left hand for anything you would usualy use your right for (or vice-versa if you're left handed): throwing things, scissors(using them, not throwing them xD), even picking things up or handing objects to people. You'll become pretty much left handed over time. (doing this is acualy quite fun for those of you who like to experiment. Try it :p)

Same with smash...play with the controller for a while, even if it feels unnatural. Eventually, it'll feel completely normal.

It's probably just because I've played games all my life, but using a joystick with my right hand (I'm right handed) feels awkward and strange.

for any lefty who has already gained precision with his left thumb on the joystick, its usually really hard to switch. i played zelda TP with the wiimote in my left hand because my visual **** or whatever is easier with my left hand, for pointing, but maneuvering link (>____>) around proved to be difficult for my untrained right thumb. switching around would be worse, though, so i kept it that way and adjusted. it's still not as easy though.

think of it like using left-handed mode on your mouse for a game (or right-handed if you're a lefty). it's basically the same concept.

i believe this is a case where nurture >>> nature.

I'm mark, and i like this cookie monsta.
it would be cool to see a southpaw controller, but

i do fine with my left thumb on the joystick (ok, im lefthanded). it allows me to execute joystick commands quick, i can do different jumps with the x, y, and the joystick (hadouken sh ftw).

so, it doesnt really affect me. but if the came out with one i would get it for the hell of it :D

Why haven't they done this??? This idea clearie shows how much melee hates lefties...WTF:mad:

Id like to know if you personally feel handicapped as a left handed player because your post indicates that your not left handed.

Since movement really takes more coordination than pressing buttons gamecube controllers wins for lefties.I also drive a stick shift much better than all of my right handed friends.Since I control the car with my good hand.

I don't think it really affects gameplay that much at all or even some real life things. I am a lefty and I play almost all of my Wii games with my right hand on the Wiimote. The only real time I use the mote with the left hand is Wii Sports baseball pitching. In real life, I bat righty for baseball and play hockey righty.

God hates people that are left handed.. it's a scientific fact.
Just because we're sinister doesn't mean God hates us! Sure, he won't invite me to any of his kid's birthdays, but that's just me. He may not hate all of them, he may just dislike or tolerate them.

As for nature vs. nurture, pretty sure nature has some say in it, because people who got hit with rulers back when being lefty was evil were still lefty.

Suck my precision tilt skills!

I'm a lefty, but since i've been playing with the controllers the way they are now for such a long time, I cant really see myself getting used to it if they were swithced.

You wouldn't need a lefty controller. The majority of Japan (90% or so) is left-handed, I'm sure Nintendo had this in mind when they designed the controller. If anything, there would be a controller designed for right-handers, but we don't seem to need one, do we?

The post above me made me laughf :D

anyways.
One of my best smasher friends is left handed
he doesnt seem to have any real trouble with it
I think it doesn't make a diffrence
cause either way your going to have ephasis on one part of the controller

When I was little, I was a lefty but my dad changed that for me so now I have more strength and skill in my right hand/ arm, I write and draw with the right hand. No I don't feel handicapped with the controller it's very confortable for me. I just thought about the controller for lefties because i believe you need more speed agilkity and strength to deal with the waveshines, SHDL and shuffls that is mostly the right part of the controller.

Phanna I see you already made a thread with this topic, sorry.

Console fps games *shudder* such as halo require the use of both sticks with equal skill for each. I think that shows it's not the way you start, it's how you develop. Muscle memory works for both hands.

I play smash southpaw in every smash game. So I have to emulate 64 & melee. I play Ultimate with a DS4.
Left stick tilts, RIGHT STICK MOVE, dpad up jump, dpad left jump, dpad right attack, dpad down specials, left trigger grab, left bumper jump, right trigger shield, right bumper specials.
but when I get grabbed, i mash the dpad, and the face buttons. I don't think it helps.
