Do these People know some thing call the ERSB?

God People are so easy to jump the gun these days
Walsh, meanwhile, cited increases of 3,000 percent in profanity and 800 percent in sexual content in M-rated games since the 1990s. He also said the industry's Entertainment Software Ratings Board, which assigns game ratings, is "broken and beyond repair." Walsh's group plans to organize a summit next year to create a new ratings system.
Btw, 3,000 percent.

people are stupid.

i have been playing games since i was 4 or 5 and i have ever had the idea to imitate a video games. i know that most or impossible to imitate or would be stupid to imitate.

like i would play GTA and then go on a murder/crime spree. i don't find those types of games enjoyable as they are just mindless killing to me. give me a turn based rpg or a RTS and i'll be set for weeks. **** give me melee and i would be set for years even though if you gave me melee i would have 2 melee games.

the problem with people is not that people do those kind of things in video games its that it looks a lot more realistic. if a new GTA came out and it featured more violence and sex then the previous ones but had 16/32 bit graphics no one would complain about it as it would not look realistic.

Please learn to spell "cannibalism"...

Other than that, wow. This is idiotic. If idiots like this got what they wanted, the video game market would be brimming with lots of nice stick-wagglers and stylus-scribblers.

I'm not a huge fan of most M games myself, I don't even own one (although I will once I get my 360). But this is ridiculous. They can claim that violent video games are going to spawn the next serial killer if they want, I still claim that the kid has to be screwed up in the first place to have any sort of drastic result. And if they're so worried about kids getting a hold of games they're not supposed to be able to at their age, why don't they worry about movies first? Heck, there's a WikiHow on how to get into an R movie if you're underage! And at 17 you can't demand an ID, so maybe the reason kids aren't denied the game is because they look 17, about, and they just have to approximate.

I'm honestly getting fed up with all of this "Video games are dangerous!" crap. I played them as a kid, I turned out (sort of) fine.

The next thing they're going to say is that Mario encourages interspecies relationships because Mario gets kissed by female Goombas in some games.
Mario will get hit by drug promotion (mushrooms) long before interspecies relationships.

That would make too much sense. Remember, people who attack video games are idiots.
Yeah.

You know some video game company will get sued some day because some young kid thought you could fall 50+ feet and live, and tries it out and...yeah. You know it'll happen.

People who attack video games are just idiots. What about movies like Saw where people get killed in all sorts of different, terrible ways? At least there's no video game like that yet. You swing a sword, shoot a gun, whatever, and the person's dead.

Ugh, people who attack video games just make me furious.

Uh oh, now, because I've played first-person shooters and I'm angry, I'm going to go out and buy a gun and shoot people.

The logic of idiots is idiotic.

you can't be serious....

I mean really?

What person, or kid, goes

"lulz, mario eats mushrooms and gets bigger...maybe if i eat one I'll get big too?"

or like 'mario eats mushrooms so its COOL"

people that are easily affected by video games are the problem. not the video games. Video games require maturity to play believe it or not. and self security for that matter. If you let something as simple as a video game influence you on a serious level...you should probably consider going out and getting a life.

The very fact that you think I am serious about kids even relating Mario to drugs (much let alone imitating it) worries me.
Do I think someone will complain about it? Yes. I completely do.

These kind of people piss me off. SO MUCH.

Video games were made to be fun and entertaining. These mofos are trying to convince everybody that everybody who plays them are stupid and will try to imitate everything they play. Who could possibly think we'd be stupid enough to imitate everything we see in video games?

Ozg is right. I've played video games ever since I was four or five, too, why the hell would that **** up my mind and make me want to kill people? I mean, I played TUROK when I was six years old, and then for the GameCube when I was nine!

People who say stupid crap like, "video games rot your brain" are just ignorant. If I've played them ever since I was four or five, would I have been able to read at an eighth-grade level at six years of age, or would I even be able to type right now?

...Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairytale I've ever seen.

How is the ESRB broken beyond repair? It's an accurate ratings system, it's just that parents are to stupid to take it seriously. They need to learn that some fourteen year olds can play M-games while for others, they can barely play T-rated games.

Parents buying games for children that they shouldn't (and hasn't there been only like five cases ever where a kid has actually said that the game made him do it?) be buying, are the ones who are broken beyond repair.

I should eat a small child out of spite.

Honestly, the only thing that could have made this article more ridiculous would have been Jack Thompson. Seriously, Jack Thompson is funnier than Carlos Mencia by a long shot. Gugh. I hate stupid people.

That's why I normally tell parents when they're buying M games for a six year olds.

Normally, I get cussed at, but it's usually pretty awesome when the parent decides to listen to me and puts the game back.

Yeah, that's another thing though...

Why are people so prepared to blame video games on things? Didn't people try to lay some of the blame for Columbine on video games? It just sickens me how people blame video games on things because it's convenient...or...I don't even know why.

On the other hand though, I will say there are some ridiculous titles out there. GTA is just...I will never fully understand why that franchise was made, or why people play it. Granted, though, I still don't think it should be banned or something. There's a reason the 'M' is there. If you're old enough, you can buy the game--and chances are, you can handle it at that age--or if you're under 17 but your parents feel like you're mature enough to get the game, that's fine too. But if you're under 10 you really shouldn't be playing M games. I might go as far as to step it up a year or two, but definitely 10 or under shouldn't be playing GTA or anything. If you're not old enough to play T games, I don't think you should be playing anything higher. Not that it'll make you kill people, but there's a reason the rating's there. As I said, I don't own any M games--I've just never had any interest in any of the games that have the rating, since most of them are for 360/PS3 anyways--and I've only played a little bit of some, but I've heard things about GTA, so I can imagine what kind of things can be there.

And I agree with the ESRB. What's broken about it? Heck, if anything they over-exaggerate things, not the opposite. You're seeing more and more E10+ games now that the rating has been invented, (It's kind of like the PG13 for video games...only a little less important. I mean, c'mon, Spaceballs a PG?)despite games that I think could've gone for just an E, games that could probably stick with E10+, like Brawl, stepped up to Teen. And most of the FPSs that I can think of that I've played have been M. And for the FPSs I've played, it's probably just because of gore.

Don't you love how Comic Mischief is actually a factor in ratings, though? In Teen games' ratings, to boot?

Good for you. I should do the same, but I'm not a very outspoken person, plus I've never actually seen it happen, but that's what needs to be done.

A: the article is by Fox News, if you haven't noticed, and is not the best place for actual facts, as they Botch reality (notice the numerous attacks on Obama for a missing lapel pin [yes, I am a Liberal, but man, practically yelling at a guy for not wearing a lapel pin, you get the picture])
B: There has been no evidence linking Video games to Violence, not even Grand Theft Auto (who holds the record for most controversial game). However, due to a rather infamous school shooting (which I won't mention) has turned Video games into scapegoats, so the ESRB was formed and made the E, T, and M ratings we see. later on, with studies saying that 7 out of 10 underage Kids (and Teenagers) have a rated M game, Congress made it illegal for anyone under 17 to buy a rated M game. Alas Science has not found the connection.
C: in actuality, Science has found that, instead of rotting our minds (not even television does this), it does the reverse. Shall I pull up the formula for mere damage in Pokemon?

Do I need to lecture more?

If the kids have good enough parents some violence in a video game isn't going to corrupt them. These type of people sicken me

These kind of people get pretty rediculous. Like when they all thought Resident Evil 5 was rasist. They get worked up over the dumbest things.
Ohh and then when they showed white people

That is called "the balanced world", the part of our planet where everything is out of a creature's control and their only concerns are their own survival and passing on their genes. Humans live in an unbalanced world, where we control much of it and our most major concern is "what's the next video game I will get". We evolved out of a balanced world, so when life is at stake, We can survive (ex. being caught on an oil rig on fire). Alas, Human nature has some darker things as well, so that is the thing I typically blame for things (along with genetics)
