I have been thinking lately about what subject I could start a new topic with. I know it'll probably excists already, but I haven't seen it being updated lately so I thought, why not make a new topic? Or if there's none already, start one!

The Issue: What new modes will there be? And which modes will be removed? Or will none be removed?

We are familiar with:
1- Classic
2- Adventure
3- All-star
4- Event mode(I don't know if u can actually count it as a mode, but in this topic I presume it is)

What could be interesting:
1- Improvement of all the old modes (Don't have 2 explain that)
2- Story mode (A compact version of the story of its original game of each character)
3- Final destination mode (Looks like Adventure, the difference is though that you'll have individual programmed battles here for each character)
4- King mode (Fight against individual programmed enemies for each character causing the difficulty will be balanced, and Fight for the 'King'-title. For example, when you're playing with fox, it'll be balanced to face C.Falcon in the end because they share the same amount of speed)

tho i think it might be hard to pull off, i like the story mode idea. i dont even play ness, but i'd like to see a few mother/earthbound flashbacks.

king mode doesnt sound bad, either. kinda like the title fighting thing they did with tekken 5.

Hmm, story mode would be interesting, it would make some characters far more likable if pulled off right because you can see some of their backstory... of course, it would be hard to implement.
But they definitely have to improve Single Player, seeing that they force you to play it in order to unlock stuff. *growls*

What I want would be kind of like adventure mode, except that it would be so vastly improved as to almost be something else. Basically, you would go through 2d levels where every enemy was bound by standard smash physics and most are fairly intelligent.

This comes from my smash habits whenever I play 2d games now. I play castlevania, and I want to L-cancel my attacks and air dodge the medusa heads. I want to grab the ledges and attack from there so that I can have invulnerability frames.

Really, you could make an awesome side scroller built off of the smash physics and characters, but I don't know if Nintendo will put in the extra money that it would cost.

Story mode should be improved with each character having their own rival towards the end like a mid-boss(Mariovs.Bowser Kirbyvs.MetaKnight) and then could face the Master boss of the game (Crazy Hand, Giga Bowser) at the end. I alsolike the idea about King mode, god I just hope Sakurai does something like this for Brawl .

This is what Soul Calibur did with its "Destined Battles". In the last battle (before the real final boss), you fight somebody who has to do with your backstory. For instance, Ivy fought Cervantes, her dad.

This could be implemented in Classic mode. In SC, these "Destined Battles" occurred in Arcade mode, which is the equivalent of Classic mode.

I would also like an expanded Adventure. Party members would be nice.

special melee topic already, game mode topic already.
Ah, the mandatory post to any thread that presents an idea that may have been presented at some point in some other thread. I get really tired of these.

If there's ACTIVE DISCUSSION on a thread, starting a new one with the same topic is abominable, but I'd much rather see a new thread with some fresh discussion (even if the topic has been discussed before) than somebody who decides to be a necromancer and resurrect a 12 page thread, which will get bumped to the top, then drift right back into oblivion because nobody wants to read through 12 pages before they can start a discussion.

Now, admittedly, I'm one of the first to say that people should spend more time reading and less time posting, as you get much better discussions that way, but merely reading a whole ton of ideas discussed a couple months ago isn't why anyone is here.

good point, but if you had started that thread, you wouldn't want it to fade now would you?

(just an example, i didn't start either of those)

nice i was actually thinking this same exact thing in another thread i posted

ness's story mode would be flawed though, due to the fact that most of his moves were not his but his partners' moves in earthbound

They don't. You can unlock everything just by playing vs Matches (with the exception of a few stages)

Eh, I knew someone would say that. I know that, but... there are still a bunch of stages and things you can only unlock like that, especially Final Destination.
Besides, actually playing a few thousand melee matches takes a while, and I'm not going to spend the first few hours of getting my new game playing 1-stock matches with cranked up damage ratio against a level 1 opponent in Super Sudden Death several thousand times to unlock stuff.

Lol, I don't mind really. Plus yes, I did make a Brawl Modes Thread, that is still used, but I don't really care^^ I'm just cool like that.

I like this thread, and I wish more people would participate in discussion here...(I see last post was late May)

In any case, this is one thing I am really interested to see what they do with the game from Melee to Brawl. In 64, they only had what we know now as "classic mode". They did a TON with single player stuff. They added Adventure Mode, All-Star Mode, and Event Matches.

In the first, they had "Board the Platforms" and "Break the Targets." They replaced BtP with Homerun Contest, of course. And they brought on Multi-Man Melee, too. They also added a lot of different VS modes (Coins, Bonus, etc.)

I know everyone around here is into 1v1, no item vs matches, but I think there are a lot of things we could discuss. What do we think they'll bring back/what do we WANT them to bring back? I like the story mode idea; I think there is a lot they could do with that, but I would worry they'd spend TOO much time on it, time that could be spent on better things.

I guess the main thing I want them to implement in single player mode is 2-player adventure mode. It was boring having to go through all of that by yourself; being able to do it with someone else would make it more fun.

It'd be cool to hear more ideas for single/2-player modes as well as different types of vs modes...

I would definatly love a story mode, mabye infused with the adventure mode? so that every char has a different adventure.

for example, Fox, instead of fighting Master hand, he would fight Andross, and same with Mario Vs Bowser, and mabey Link and Ganon?

just a thought.

Story mode sounds cool, but don't overdo it with cutscenes, etc.

Just do Adventure mode with a couple stages specialized for that character (Samus- fight Ridley, Fox- have a team match w/ Krystal, etc.)

Am I the only one who wants Board the Platforms back? Also, like almost everyone else, I like the idea of story mode. Playing through the same adventure mode for every character was kind of boring in Melee and I wouldn't want to have to do it for 40+ characters in Brawl.

2-player adventure/classic would be cool, too. They could give it a point system to make it a bit of a competition as well as a cooperation. Then the winner could have to fight some kind of boss. I don't know, just some ideas.

I seriously want board the platforms back. And I think they will bring it back because Brawl is going to stick around for a long time before the next console war.

2-player adv/clsc sounds amazing.

I also want the homerun contest to be there but without the ability to do the bat hack or whatever you want to call it. So that would force players to actually think of real combos to rack up the damage instead of the bat tech for every character.

I doubt there will be 40+ characters in Brawl.

What about race to the finish being a skill mode like break the targets? What about RACING to the finish with targets inside the maze to see how many targets you can kill and at the same time get to the ending? The twists should be obstacles in the way like bob-ombs, situations where wall jumping should be applied or link/samus's chain recovery etc. the maze should be intricate.

Very interesting... I would like 2 add that enemies are able 2 attack u, so you'll some kind of fight that's like: Fight, kill, run, next obstacle, dodge, run, evade, run, block, attack, kill, run, next obstacle, etc...

Five.

Pretty cool ideas. I definitely want BtP back, as well as something new and along the lines of BtT and BtP...As I mentioned before, I think it'd be cool to have 2-player adventure mode. This is probably the think I am excited for the most, other than what characters get in and such. That would be a blast.

I'm just thinking...they could make a much harder final boss and have both of you have to work to defeat it/them. What my friends used to do when there were 3 of us and bored...we'd have 3v1 team mode (vs computer), team attack on, handicaps, computer level 9 and handicap 9, and us at handicap 3 or 4...it was nuts, and we got our butts kicked...

huh
sorry to break the Link chain(man, that really doesn't sound right)... any ways, story mode sounds cool, but as long as they made reading diologue, not voice actors, but I'm not so sure about king mode. And also, party members would be cool too, (especially if you could choose)

agree, voice-acting would **** up the game. I also like the idea of online co-op and do 'singleplayer'

This is a little off-topic, but I would like better Computer AI (I'm not counting on this, btw). I like computers who do more than just walk around, collecting pokeballs and hitting you with the occasional A-jab. They do the weirdest moves and never recover when they should be able to.

And, even if you put computer level higher, all it does it make them to hax-like moves, stuff that no human could ever manage but simply because they are software running they can do impossible things and "predict" your moves almost.

Friends always want to have a computer on "even a level 5 one" but I refuse because I know it will just come after me the whole time and annoy the crap out of me...always interrupting my attacks and getting in the way...grr

Anyway, I'd like better AI.

On the topic of a better story mode, I had an idea about it (I think I had a thread about it once, not sure).

You'd play a boss at the end of every level. But if you're playing as Bowser, you obviously would then fight Mario at the end of the Mario level.

Stage 1:
Mario World
Boss: Bowser OR Mario

Stage 2:
Yoshi's Island
Boss: Kamek OR Yoshi

Stage 3:
Kongo Jungle
Boss: K. Rool OR Diddy and DK

Stage 4:
Pop Star
Boss: MetaKnight and DeDeDe OR Kirby

Stage 5:
Hyrule Temple
Boss: Ganondorf OR Link and Zelda

Etc. etc. etc.

Well I think Miyamoto specifically was campaigning for a "more robust story mode", so hopefully there should be some nice things happening. I pretty much like the ideas in this thread, especially Adventure mode basically being a side scrolling platformer with Smash physics.

I also want more Events (like 100 this time...or even more :D)

And better AI, yes please. It can be done.

All those ideas are great, but can they be realised? The second trailer showed us the game was coming 2007, the game is barely 1,5 years in proces while melee took 2,5 years...

Perhaps, perhaps not. Length doesn't really make a game, it's all about effort and quality. Plus isn't the SORA team pretty **** huge and made up of people that really love this franchise. So I don't think time is truely an issue.
