I feel like I should start this as a topic....
easier to discuss one topic.

So Dsmash was out a long time ago. Fsmash has been a go to punishing move (other than DS or somtimes Utilt)

Which all are great when tipped.

Dsmash comes out FASTER than Fsmash but resolves LATER.
So in total lag, there's not much difference to complain about.
(Much like Utilt, Usmash debate--sorta not really anyway)

Dsmashes range is shorter than Fsmashes.
Therefore if Fsmash won't tip, Dsmash which would tip.

Use Dsmash was a forward defence as Fsmash would. (rather than using its backside--because that ****s too slow.

Dsmash starts killing much like Fsmash (when tipped).
Also an added bonus is that Dsmash sets opponents up in the air. (sadly the aftermath lag doesn't allow a good follow up)

Is the punishability of Dsmash similar or greater than Fsmash, when used properly.
Like Fsmash can be used for zoning or punishment. (rather than an untipped Fsmash to punish. Would a tipped Dsmash be more benefitial)

I don't get where you're getting at...

Is "is the punishability of Dsmash similar or greater than Fsmash, when used properly." the question?

If so, if used properly neither is punishable.

I'm only using f-smash when I confident in the tip so it pushes them far enough back, and usually near the edge where even if it doesn't tip they are sent off the stage and into a ledge grab. Or they just get hit and die (I always use f-smash fresh).

D-smash is a great defensive kill because most attacks push you into tipper if you're shielding before. You're going to use this when they're lagging so fairly safe if used proplerly.

U-smash is a more offensive kill with good mobility for obvious reasons. Also, if you're beneath an opponent on a platform then this move is safe.

As far as using them in situations other than described... u-smash is probably the safest followed by d-smash then f-smash last.

I'm with junk on most of the analysis. But dsmash leaves you incredibly vulnerable. I wouldn't recommend using it too much....unless the opponent is rolling around like a monkey in a barrel or something.

i rarely use dsmash now. If it has to be a quick decision AND im in dsmash tip range AND i think they might roll, i'll dsmash. that's about it...

I find Dsmash very good becuase its unexpected, most opponents by then think i have a Dtilt or DB to punish them, so i pick up on there shielding and walla, fresh Dsmash.

Classic.

Dsmash is much more useful when you use its forward hitbox.
I've never used Dsmash to punish someone from rolling behind me.

There are better methods like DB and DS.

Dsmash come's out much faster than Fsmash.

What I'm questioning (though I've been doing anyways) is that if you're bot in tipper Fsmash range because their INSIDE your sword. (given you could read the range of Dsmashes tip) is punishing with a Dsmash or Fsmash better.

Knock back and percent wise and possible follow up potentials?
Dsmash tends to knock back straight up while Fmash knocks back the direction of the smash

tipped, Fsmash does ~20% while Dsmash does ~17%, but i find dsmash's knockback easier to follow up with at low percents, i would actually even try catching someone with a Dsmash then setup up for a fresh Fsmash tipper =P
