Fox sweet spotting BF from below? WTF?

Never in my life have I seen this. I'm chillin', play a lvl 4 CPU Fox. I knock him off the right side of BF, and he up-Bs right at the ledge and just instantly grabs it. He still had at least half of his up-B distance left, and he didn't just ride into the ceiling or anything. It was EXACTLY like recovering at a downwards angle, except he was going up at around a 60 degree angle. Has anyone ever seen this before, and is there any way to replicate it? (it would obviously be insanely useful if you could do it consistently)

Just a guess, but it's possible that he hit the corner with such precision that instead of hitting the underside of the stage and moving right, he moved a tiny bit down as well, activating his ledge grab. I'd imagine it's a pixel-perfect maneuver that we won't be seeing in matches anytime soon.

So, the Fox went downwards towards the ledge, from above it at a 60° angle, or he was below the ledge, and went up at a 60° angle?

picture brawl fox ss ub from below the stage
it looks exactly like that

[edit] k nvm brawl **** most of u probably don't remember that game exists

picture fox sweet spotting the ledge from ABOVE
and just mirror that from below

he just latches onto the ledge, it happen to me on BF too, so it's probably BF specific
maybe something similar to CF's weird auto sweet spot, but like bones said w/o riding the ceiling at all

Hey, I just fired up my game and succeeded in doing it while messing around. Took quite a few tries. I'll record it or something.

Could be similar to Falcon's recovery from under the edge on BF, he's got some insta-grab thing as well.

I'm pretty sure Falcon only grabs the ledge after his upB expires, meaning it's not the same thing. I could be wrong if I'm misunderstanding.

Again, I think what happens is that Fox hits the corner in such an exact way that the corner pushes him one or two pixels downward, enabling the ledge grab.

Falcon has a spot on Battlefield where he can grab the ledge before his up-b is done, Magus explained it somewhere but it was pretty complicated and I don't know where the post is <_< (he also mentioned Fox had a similar thing so that's probably what happened)

Also looooooooooooool

Some detective work, because I'd seen a thread just like this

Argh...I did it once while not recording, and now I can't do it again. Must have tried at least a couple hundred times.
Also, I checked out that CF video, and yeah, he moves in such a way that the corner is pushing him downward as he uses upB. Probably one of the most ridiculous mechanics exploits I've seen in this game, haha.

The criteria for grabbing the ledge are as follows:

1. Must be in an animation/state in which grabbing is possible
2. Must be within ledgegrab range
3. Must be moving downward

Another thing to note is that Battlefield is slightly thicker just inside of where the ledge is compared to either side of that point.

So if Firefox carries Fox right at the corner, and he is just barely beneath the stage (where you would normally expect him to get caught under the stage and slide along it toward the middle), he can be within ledgegrab range while being forced to move downward by the contours of the stage. That means he'll grab ledge.

It's exactly the same principle as how Falcon's works.

Omg the same thing happened to me just now. Cept I was playing Fox and I upB-ed straight into BF's ledge and I insta-grabbed it. I was leveled with the ledge and I was no more than Marth's Fsmash away from the ledge.

That may be the worst joke of all time.
It's not about making good jokes. It's about making a pun. Clearly you've forgotten what MD/VA is all about.
