Raise your hand if you heard about the Fox News scandal.
...no? Well, don't feel too bad about it. It was quickly swept under the rug, at least, south of the thirty-ninth, anyway. But rest assured, just atop the land of the free, there's been plenty of media coverage.
For those who were not aware, Fox News apparently saw fit to take a steaming dump on the Canadian Forces.
I, as a proud Canadian, am absolutely infuriated by these comments, and fed up with what feels at times like a typified ignorance of the Canadian contribution the War on Terror.
Or perhaps that Canada has suffered the most combat deaths per capita in Afghanistan?
Well, fine, you can forget all those htings, if you want. But how about the fact that this was not Canada's war to begin with?
Canada "gets away" with what it does because it is not an internationally reviled nation, not because it's attached to "the most powerful country in the universe." Canada "gets away" with what it does because it is an effectively run country. The idea that Canada being reliant on America is suggested for so much as a second is infuriating. What about the reliance on Canada and the rest of the NATO coalition to handle Afghanistan during the Iraq War, with the end date being a big ol' question mark?
Then again, how much integrity can I expect out of a panel that attempts to emasculate the leader of a foreign military because he has an "unusual name for a man"?
Now, please understand my point of view. This program isn't just offensive to me because I'm a downtrodden patriot, oh no. I have a long history of military service in my family. My entire immediate family has or is presently serving. A good chunk of my extended family, as well. There are soldiers in my family dating right back to either World War -- both of which Canada entered prior to the U.S.A., just as an interesting tidbit.
As a matter of fact, I was just a dotted line away from enlisting myself a couple of years ago. However, the uncertainty of what Canada's involvement in the mission is the only thing that stopped me -- I didn't want to end up stuck in soldierly limbo. Two of the pine boxes that came home, by the way, were more than just names and pictures on the news. I knew them personally, and they were good men that lived and breathed Army.
All the same, I narrowly dodged that bullet, and meanwhile, these turds have insulted just about my entire family tree. But hey, why stop there? Why not take a bunch of stereotypes you won't hear anywhere other than South Park. That's right. We don't have cops, we have mounties on horseback in bright red jackets. No, that is absolutely not a dress uniform. No, they do not have cars, or flak jackets.
In fact, I would like very much for that panel to challenge this. Come on up to rural Canada with a submachine gun and start mowing down our pitiful Mounties! Oh, what ever could they do against your mighty bullets? Certainly not reciprocate! That's just not what Canada is about.
After all, it's not a smart culture. What with the diversified economy, abundance of national resources, and universal healthcare. Nothing to like here! Nothing here but hearty ****** hicks racing dog sleds and brewing beer out of boiled maple syrup.
Oh, and oddly enough, I plan to be a police officer. So they managed to nail me up after all. Just in case I wasn't angry enough already, y'know.
Now, I understand that "Red Eye" bills itself as satire... but it isn't. I challenge any one of those douchebags to spell the word satire. What, exactly, is being satirized? Stereotypical American ignorance? Hardly! These chumps wear this ego-centric ubernationalism like a badge of honor. So what's being satirized, exactly? Canada? It seems the only target of a malicious and hateful spew of unfounded nonsense.
But, that's strange. I seem to recall Greg Gutfeld's non-apology as specifically stating he had no intention of dishonoring the sacrifice of one hundred and fourteen Northern-borne heroes fighting another nation's war and their mortified families.
So, what's being satirized, again?
Nothing.
It's ****ing nonsense, and I'm tired of people dropping flash-words like "comedy" or "satire" and expecting to get away with their bull****.
If I punch your grandfather in the face and call it satire, it's not satire. It's a hateful action.
If I do my hilarious impression of a D-Day veteran (hey guys have you seen my intestines ha ha I am so scatterbrained sheesh where are they ha ha) and call it satire, it's not satire. It's a hateful action.
If I crack a joke about America closing down airports after 9/11, and call it satire, IT'S NOT SATIRE. IT'S A HATEFUL ACTION.
Or do slander and disrespect only mean something if it makes the bald eagle cry?
Now, to move on, I do understand that not all Americans think this way. With over three hundred million citizens, it's a statistical impossibility.
However, understand the pure ignorance that is seen looking into your country from the outside. All I see of the U.S.A. in its outward projection of Canada -- and not just on this less than reputable channel -- is disrespectful gags that treat it like a non-country that America permits to exist.
Why does America not seem to educate on other nations? Are they just considered unimportant? Or, perhaps, does this kind of education go on quietly, while the numerous ignoramuses running rampant in the United States manage to grab up all the airtime?
What do learned Americans think of this? I want to know. What do learned Americans know of Canada, of its struggles in its war, and just how much appreciation do they hold, if any? I want to know.
Because when I see comments like these, I feel a resentment I am increasingly losing my ability to control increase in power.
Yeah, go ahead and do it. One down, forty-nine to go.
Anyone that says to grow up or get a sense of humor has obviously not watched a parade for their immediate family's lifeless caskets, then gone home and found the most outrageous little Youtube video they'd ever seen in their e-mail.
The above proves that although these people may not represent the majority of America, they represent a large enough sum of it, or they wouldn't even be on the air. And frankly, I think that's wrong. This kind of belligerence and bastardization of international views starts at home, and in the educational system. Do something about it.
However, when I see comments like this, my anger simmers.
Just to see that there is one American out there that understands Canada for what it is and appreciates it for what it has sacrificed, and above all, acknowledges its importance to the existence and well-being of the United States, well, it fills me with hope. Because it's more than I can say for a lot. And even a few would be too many.
There's my twenty cents. How about it. What side of the border do you live on, and where do you stand?

Well, that's awfully smug. Canada could say likewise, though. Or did you forget that someone had to take the dirtlands while the U.S. pulled out the vast majority of its forces to go start a second Gulf War. And who knows what the hell what that was really all about, to this day.I didn't even know that... that they were in the war.

I think this is just as wrong as any other disrespect toward soldiers, but I also don't recall it being prominent. Intelligent people blame the warmakers, not the warmachines. As for the rest... well, no comment**** off everyone makes fun at our U.S. SOLDIERS WHY IS THE MEDIA NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT is just media bias towards FOXNEWS they hate foxnews because they do show real news and are fair with everyone not like MSNBC OR CNN
Christ what ignorance. Alright, send the Ohio guard up to Canada and see how well it does. Canada can't possibly have a defence strategy, right? You canoodlians got your ******s all filled with snow over this, didn't you?
Why should anyone care what canoodlians think? The Ohio National Guard is bigger and better funded with UAVs, tanks, and air cover for its troops.
What country sends its soldiers to patrol IED-filled Afghanistan in thin-skinned G-wagons? Do you want your troops to die? Do you even know who's responsible for that disastrous decision?
I know, why don't you just ***** about an American TV show instead.
Yeah, go ahead and do it. One down, forty-nine to go.
I could retaliate with a 9/11 joke. Instead, I'll retaliate with the notion that I could do so, but will not, because I'm not a stupid son of a *****.Oh grow a sense of humor Canada or we will send the U.S. Cub scouts up there and take over your country, and really give you something to cry about. nice pink shirt

What I don't understand is, Bin Laden attacked the towers, what where we doing in Iraq to begin with? If we can find the very cow right down to the stable that started a Mad Cow disease, how can we not find a 6'3" Arab on a dialysis machine?? We should have went to Afghanistan first. Anyway Afghanistan is one of the worst places to fight and that is where the Canadian soldiers are. God Bless them and THANK YOU CANADA. I think we should protect our borders from within and bring everyone home.
It does cast us in a dim light and that is what upsets me as well. Just as you can not just walk up to the premier's door to get answers, we can not just walk up to the presidents door to get answers. We voted Obama in cause he was supose to put an end to all this and he's not. All I know is I apologize and feel really bad about what was said. It's a marketing money making show and they don't care who they hurt. Our governments (u.s.) love to make the people hate each other, why I don't know.
