I think that Smashboards gave out penalties (yellow cards lol) to three brawl players (M2K was one of them) for planning to split the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place pot in a recent major.

Eh, in M2K's defense, he tried hard not to camp in Brawl at first. Or so I heard.

Speaking of which, I watched Brawl for the first time in months; Yoshi vids, don't ask why. Anyways, I found out even YOSHI can camp in Brawl of all things. I saw a vid of Yoshi timing out a Metaknight, and it blew my mind.

Oops off-topic... um... YEAH HUSTLE THOSE NUBS

Best thread ever.
I hustle fools all the time, but it's usually for like $2 a piece lol. I need to get better at the art.

That doesn't sound right at all...

Splitting prize money is their business. As long as theirs no collusion going on (which I can't imagine how that would work with a Smash game), there's nothing wrong with it, except maybe it makes it slightly less entertaining for spectators.

Oh, that's a little confusing. I thought you meant warnings/infractions on here for tournament activity. It looks like this is its own thing, separate from Smashboards (just tied into the whole MLG thing).

Yeah, I guess they're just worried about the "less entertaining for spectators" part. They should just offer non-transferable prizes, like trophies. But there's nothing they can do if two players agree to not use their mains or something.

EDIT: If intentional forfeiting/underperformance is against the rules, there's no reason prize splitting should be.

1) I can't wait to pretend to be one of these noobs to one of yall and counter hustle you fools.
I know what you look like, son. And A$ posted a picture in that picture thread, as did frogles and sheer and kuz and Isai. And boom has a video of himself yelling about bukkake fests of snow. And I've seen Koro's chess.com profile picture. And I'll be on high alert for a Russo-Korean kid with a self-satisfied smirk and a penchant for Keyboard. And you best believe that chubby asians from Socal and anyone with a name that sounds like "hymen" and are going to get the once-over as well. Near never leaves his house, and Swedish smashers don't exist, so I'm cool there.

The list of potential counter-hustlers grows thin.

But you do carry a white cat with different-colored eyes around with you wherever you go, Bond-villain style. Dead giveaway.

Lulz, now I can't stop thinking about how much money Firo could have made off me that one time when he tricked me into thinking he was a randomscrub.

Also, isn't the sandbagging thing impossible to enforce? One would think that outlawing revenue-splitting would make that a little easier on the enforcers.

I don't remember having seen ballin in the picture thread. And be careful about frogles' shapelifting, you might not recognize him. Also no Euros have posted pictures.

Lol if only armada played more 64, maybe he would get really good. Unfortunately he won't play online. Maybe he's a non-existing swede too.

He can beat King Funk easily, apparently

which in itself isn't a great accomplishment
JK Funk is pretty legit

But he did that WITHOUT playing online... if he went online, maybe he'd get good enough to beat me in a MM.

Armada and funk played pretty even actually, but it was falcon dittos lol. So not easy to get wise on the skill level from that. But yeah armada is pretty good at 64. If he had trained who knows how good he could be.

Armada was hiding his true skill

'cuz he's a HUSTLA

In other news, my new favorite tactic is the "I'm-better-at-brawl." When someone's playing 64 or sees you playing 64, be reluctant to play them because you "only really like brawl." Even scrubs, for the most part, will start trying to convince you that brawl is a terrible game. Eventually consent to playing 64, but only for cash. Downside is, it only ever nets you small bets, and occasionally you'll find a 64-playing-newbie who likes brawl (hasn't happened to me yet, but I have limited experience). Wonderful for getting a little money out of that guy who'd never bet you otherwise, though.

HELLO and welcome to a BRAND SPANKING NEW edition of THE HUSTLER'S CORNER!

I'm your host, battlecow.

Now, smart guys like you could probably have figured out most of the stuff in the OP for yourselves, given a little time. BUT! battlecow's tips of the day (brought to you by COCA-COLA on a not-at-all daily basis) are a little more IN-DEPTH.

TODAY!

Reading the Mark

First of all, it's important to view the person you're hustling as a mark rather than an opponent. If you're in danger of losing, it's more of a bet than a hustle; any fool can money match an opponent of similar skill. With that in mind, what IS important is knowing how to mind-game the mark to get the maximum cash-mizzuneh value for your time.

The most important part of this (and this is the most important part of hustling) is to read them. Experience is the best teacher here, but I has tips.

battlecow's helpful tips:

1. Jocks and bros will usually dismiss money matches as "gay." They'll think that betting on video games is horribly nerdy, because it elevates them past the level of "something to do while bored/waiting for *****es." The solution here is NOT to call them ****ies or try to imply that they're "afraid" to play you; this never works for some reason. Instead, try your best to do MM's with everyone they know that you can get ahold of and then tell them about it; if you can't, lie about who you've MM'd. Once they see it as borderline mainstream, their competitive urge will take over. Don't antagonize these guys; being accepted as a fellow bro is the surest route to their pockets.

2. Fat guys are (often) worthless marks. If someone's fat, you'd think they'd want to prove something in smash, but they invariably ***** out and will only bet small change. Greedy *******s are probably saving up for the next shipment of twinkies. Also, they're always the first ones to blow the whistle on your hustling; they'll assume that you're scheming somehow before they even have reason to do so. Fat dudes have low self-esteem, I guess, so the blinding arrogance that allows us to hustle others so easily doesn't stop up their vision. However, name-calling and implying that they're afraid of you WILL occasionally work on homo obesus.

3. Chicks will usually view money matches with disdain, but will occasionally see them as a fun way to prove what "Gamer Girls" they are or else as a silly distraction to giggle uproariously about. Small change only, I'm afraid; you need testosterone to get real money flowing. That's beside the point, however, because you should never take cash from a member of the weaker sex unless you're passing through town or something. Taking a chick's money makes you ungentlemanly; it'll kill your buzz of bonhomie. If you refuse it gallantly and suavely, dudes are that much more likely to bet because, see, it's just a game, right guys? We're all just having a good time.

That's all, folks! I have loads more tips, but they're UNCATEGORIZED, so I'll put 'em in here TOMORROW or something.

Offer to buy fat guys a pizza if they win instead of money.

You should make it clear that not being able to get cash off people is no reason to leave a situation empty handed.

Everyone will bid something of value some how for some reason.

True, true. Just the other day I won a 2v1 in melee to get out of paying for my share of the pizza. Also, MM's seem like they'd provide a reasonably good way to get into chicks' pants, if you can find chicks who smash (unlikely in the extreme). I know a guy who apparently had a wildly successful game of strip Tekken once. We can always hope.

And that's Surri-Sama's Tip of the Day. Brought to you by PEPSI!

I live near a store which has a 64, smash and a TV.
Over the past 3 years I have successfully hustled from every random walking into the store a total of $489.75 (so far). I go there almost twice a week these days and every time I go I win AT LEAST $5.

I've almost earned $500 from hustling but I'm going to try the above techniques to hustle harder. :awesome:

I was in Minnesota visiting family for a week one time, and I straight chilled in this one gaming shop in this mall for like the whole time. They had an N64 set up and I hustled like there was no tomorrow. The store owner thought I was pretty funny and let me stay as long as I gave him 50% of the profits (not because he cared about 50% of my income but just for lulz).

Sadly, it was kind of a ****ty hustle. I spent most of the time doing 1p mode because no one would play me. I ended up making like $20 in 4 days of trying to hustle; everyone kept wanting to play different games or else they caught on to me. And the controllers were both janked as hell, so it sucked in the gameplay regard as well and that contributed to the no-one wanting to play me vibe.

Yes! I hate when the controllers suck. I played a couple of guys in this underground lounge/bar space with ssb connected to a projector (just for that day, cuz someone brought it). Obviously I don't carry my n64 controller around lol. They all felt like 3rd party ones (how cheap can you get, honestly).

I had to use samus cuz she's the only char I can use if the stick is looser than a gangsta's wardrobe.

It sucks, but if you're in it for the money and not the games (and honestly, I personally never have that much fun playing with utter scrubs) you can hustle them whether you're on zero frames or 10.
