Does anyone else feel that the cinematic FS are way too repetitive? Many of the new FS in Ultimate are very quick and only work one way. There’s no more “Transform and Attack” FS. Instead of Mega Evolving and going around attacking your opponents, we get Aura Storm and Triple Finish from Brawl, which isn’t bad, but I would have loved to see transforming FS come back after WiiU/3DS.

This thread excludes characters such as Corrin, Bayonetta and Mega Man.

Sadly, yes. I wouldn't feel as annoyed if most of them didn't require near pixel-perfect timing to get it right.

With that being said, here's how I'd handle Final Smashes for every character:
  • Mario: Mega Mushroom
  • Donkey Kong: Barrel Attack
  • Link: Flurry Rush
  • Dark Samus: Have the Phazon Laser infect opponents with Phazon (works similar to ink but doesn't stack)
  • Kirby: Robobot Drill
  • Fox: Bring back Landmaster
  • Pikachu: Catastropika
  • Daisy: Have Daisy Blossom inflict the Flower status
  • Falco: Arwing Assault
  • Young Link: Fierce Deity Slash
  • Ganondorf: Make Ganon controllable
  • Mr. Game & Watch: Make Octopus controllable again
  • Meta Knight: Bring back Galaxia Darkness
  • Pit: Bring back the Three Sacred Treasure
  • Dark Pit: Give him the Lightning Chariot
  • Wario: Wario-Man traps fighters in a cloud, ending with a fart nuke
  • Pokemon Trainer: Have Charizard Mega Evolve during Triple Finish
  • Diddy Kong: Have Rocketbarrel Blast move Diddy side to side while firing peanuts on the ground
  • Sonic: Make Super Sonic controllable again
  • King Dedede: Target Masked Dedede's missiles at opponents, and then spin around in a fiery tornado
  • Little Mac: Make Giga Mac controllable again
  • Greninja: Battle Bond, making Ash-Greninja controllable
  • PAC-MAN: Make Super PAC-MAN controllable again
  • Robin: Replace Chrom with Morgan in Pair Up
  • Inkling: THE P*SSING KRAKEN COME ON
  • Ridley: Space Pirate Escape
  • Simon: Have Grand Cross summon actual crosses of light on the stage
  • Richter: Hydrostorm
  • Incineroar: Have Malicious Moonsault take place on the stage, ending with an explosion
  • Hero: Have Gigaslash work similar to Scendscale
  • Banjo-Kazooie: Have each Jinjo fly left and right while the Mighty Jinjonator flies in from the background
  • Terry: Have Triple Geyser stun opponents, following up with Buster Wolf
  • Pyra/Mythra; Have Burning Sword and Sacred Arrow take place on the stage
  • Kazuya: Have Final Blaster take place on the stage

They're just boring and disrupt the battle way too much. Like oh no, the falcon player hit a kirby player in your 8 player match, so now you have to watch a cutscene that doesn't affect 3/4 of the players. Very annoying and unfun. Every Final Smash that was previously transformation-based is now either terrible (like Sonic's), lame (like Pac-Man's), or stupid easy to kill with (like Bowser's). If the cutscene Final Smashes were just handled like Mario's so that it affects the other players but also doesn't stop them from playing, then fine. But as they are right now they exist purely for the sake of looking cool, and very few of them are actually cool enough to be entertaining every single time (only one I can think of that's that good is Captain Falcon's, which is incredibly based and can never be truly replicated. Sora's is pretty cool too, I guess). If you're a Sonic Heroes fan, you're definitely familiar with the "Big, cool looking attack that destroys foes but you have to watch it every time and it eventually gets super boring" syndrome, and it's the same thing in SSBU.

Truthfully, it is rather disappointing that the transformation Final Smashes got ditched, but considering how long they last (almost long enough to KO a single fighter twice), it's probably understandable why the likes of Super Dragon and Landmaster were replaced by Blue Falcon copycats.

In that case, it can't be that hard to fix-just nerf the time limit.
