I was sitting at home watching the Sony Press Conference on G4. And they were talking about how awesome Final Fantasy XII is and all of that fun stuff. But then he mentioned that Square already had the trailer for the next Final Fantasy ready to be shown. I thought that it was a bit early to already be talking about a fourteenth Final Fantasy, seeing how XIII isn't even out in Japan yet. But they ran it, and it was very pretty.

As I watched it, my eyes being attacked by the awesome CGI (then again what PS3 game doesn't have awesome CGI these days?) I started to notice something. "This trailer reminds me of Final Fantasy XI" I thought to myself, and then I knew why. At the very end of the trailer when the title was shown it had the subtitle "online" under it. So yes, Square is taking another stab at the MMORPG genre like they did in Final Fantasy XI. I suppose this is kind of like beating a dead horse, seeing how if you go onto any Final Fantasy XI server you will see that there is almost no one on anymore. But I really shouldn't be so pessimistic, I couldn't get into Final Fantasy XI so who knows? Final Fantasy XIV might get me into the game, but you never know.

And by the way, here's the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fETeHFATJw8

I did not like FFXI at all, to me it should of been a spin-off, and the actual FFXI could of been something more deserving (I like deep storylines, like FFX or FFXII's).

And now let's revist the drawing board and make FFXIV and online game too. It smells like insta-fail seeing that XII isn't out yet, and there already planning FFXIV.

But we all know it will sell good (even if it sucks) all because it is apart of the main Final Fantasy series, and the Square Enix logo is slapped on it.

Good thing we get FFversusXII to make up for this though...

It seems they are basing 14 off of 11, and that is a very bad idea, in my opinion. They are wasting yet another sequel number for this crud.

Wow, what the **** are you all talking about? Go ahead and slap yourself as hard as you can for me.

Final Fantasy XI was an amazing MMORPG.

Its easy for me to tell that you guys don't know what you're talking about when immediately when you say that it doesn't have a large gaming population or the servers are 'abandonded.'

Its easy to tell that you either never got into the game or never even played it when Turbo Ether says that the story line sucked. The FFXI storyline was on the level of every other Final Fantasy game. It was intense and amazing. Did you even play the game? The warring nations and their leaders? The Zilart campaign and its the secret behind Juneo? The Chains of Promethia and the wyrms? Playing in the past?

Heartz calling the game crud? If you don't know what you're talking about, go ahead and say so.

I played FFXI, and I'm not just a game fanboy - I actually know what I'm talking about. I'm hardpressed to find people who gave the game a decent shot and didn't like it, or at least enjoy the story. It had a story, an amazing story for MMO standards and satisfactorily FF.

I wasn't calling the game crud. I am speaking of the waste of sequel numbers. FF11 was very enjoyable in the time I had it, it just didn't deserve a whole roman numeral. It was basically "Final Fantasy Online". Of course, that is just a petty issue.

I didn't play FF11 for the story, just for the gameplay.

And when I said bad idea, I was just saying that people would rather have a completely different MMO from FF11.

arbitrary decision on your part? Because it is online, it doesn't "deserve a roman numeral?" What does that even mean?

Basically, I am saying that FF11 didn't have a strong enough storyline (most MMOs do not) to be a part of the main series. Giving it that Roman numeral is kind of stating that it is. It isn't to belittle the game. It is just my opinion. As I said, it is only a petty matter. Not even worth the debate. lol

yeah... regardless of our differences in opinions over FFXI's
completely amazing
plot and story arcs, I dont see why having the roman numeral should have anything to do with how good a FF game's story is. FF Tactics (and subsequently War of the Lions) has one of the greatest FF stories ever and it isn't a numbered title...

I am not biased with it all, I just thought it a bit silly. Many people don't think of the Roman numeral a big deal, but it actually is. It makes all the difference, because the main series games always had a specific style of play, regardless of any new or rearranged elements, such as FF12's Battle System. Calling it FF11 wasn't really necessary at all, especially when the subtitled expansion packs were released.

FFT was a great series overall, but it was much too different from the main series, same with FF11. It didn't require the Roman numeral, and it should have been no different with FF11, in my opinion.

I've run off topic, anyway. :p

I've played it for 2 years during the initial american release, I was actually hooked for awhile, but through time the gameplay really dragged down alot on gaining access to seeing the cutscenes :( and i quit from there, not to mention the community on my server i hated so much

not to mention you have cutscenes within an MMORPG game (at the same time you're chatting and watching the scene). and the numbering is pretty much moreso as an official release by square...

FF 14 may show promise, but it better not be similar to 11 in it's gameplay mechanics.... and name swaps (Beating the same crab with different names is pretty entertaining just to gain a level)

The only thing I am hoping for with FF14 is MUCH less grinding. The desert grinding in FF11 was almost unbearable.

the greatest thing about opinions is that they can change mid argument! :p

My point is that there is no such thing as a "waste of sequel numbers." That's just silly talk, and both FFXI and FFXIV are "deserving."

Someone did point out to me this, though:

FFXI = FF11
FFXIV = FF14 or maybe its FFXI.V which would be FF11.5 LOL

edit: grinding forced people to be good at their jobs and learn2skillchain xD

do take into consideration that accessing endgame content matters big time in MMORPG. 11 was still a pain in the balls... when i quit at that time, there were hardly any groups willing to do the 1st few promathia missions just to gain access to the new area... I'm like this is bull****

FF14's world is different, but the races are the same anyways. soooo yea

edit: I still have my PC installation discs and PS2 hard drive to play the game.... now it's rotting there :(

I didn't say the story sucked. "Slept on" = Underrated, underappreciated, etc.
Step your slang game up, son.

The only Final Fantasy I ever finished 100% was the one with the moon guy (FUSOYA) and the green haired girl who could summon things.
That one was AWESOME.

But, yeah, I haven't even tried any since....the one with Terra and Mog. >_> DOES THIS MAKE ME A HORRIBLE PERSON!?!

Meta-Kirby, Fusoya and Rydia are in FFIV, first known as II.;)

I found out about this a while ago when I saw it in a magazine at Walmart,
it said it is going to be a lot different than XI, so I would give it a chance if you didn't like
XI, or have heard bad things about it (I have never played it)

Anyway, good to hear Finalark is back, the arguments too good.

Oh yeah, Nobuo made the music for XI,
so it has got to be good lol. I'm sure I would
like XII better if he made the music for that one though,
but XIII sounds amazing, Agh!

It doesn't even matter, I don't have a PS3 :(

I doubt I will buy XIV.

Heck, I doubt I'll buy FFXIII.

My favourite 3D FF is X-2, but my favourite is IV Advance.

I hope that it's not going to be one online game, two offline games, 500 FFVII spinoffs, one online game, two offline games, more FFVII etcetera etcetera.

I never played X-2. I heard it wasn't worth getting. I've literally done everything in FFX now so...

The story line was a bit girly, but it was bearable, and easily understandable. My only problem is the fact that you only have a party of 3, something that makes me enjoy FFIV more.

It is a great game though, and was my first FF. If you've played FFX you should try it. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm close, and I have only clocked in around 40 hours or something (this is from someone who took 9 hours to get out of Midgar on FFVII after the motorbike scene XD).

It is quite easy though, unless you have limited items such as potion and ether and run away from all fights before getting royally screwed by a boss like I did.

If you can find it anyway, you should pick it up, especially since you have played FFX.

What? X-2 was not that bad, I liked it.
It was fun, and has like the best battle system.
But on a list of the best, it is still at the bottom,
maybe compared to all the others, but it is definitely
not horrible.
