For my final english paper I have to write either how technology brings people together and makes us more social. Or how it isolates us and creates false friend's. I decided to do my paper on how Melee has brought many people together. I have met some of my best friend's from this game. In my paper I go on to talk about the good player fund and housing threads. How people travel from all over the world to compete at Apex and so on. I was wondering if anyone else has ever written a paper or anything like this for a class. If so how did it turn out? I may post my paper, but I doubt it lol. Also, any suggestions for the paper would be awesome. This is the easiest paper ever.

My god, you don't live in Ontario do you? I had to do the same paper and I included melee. I only did one paragraph on it though and it was included with online dating...more just about how people who meet online do come together to meet eachother outside. But yeah the question was the same.

Awesome video Hbox. I also loved the tournament Doc you made. Seriously probably my favorite smash video.

Kinda unrelated, Can anyone help me get virtualdub working? I can't get it to work (windows 7) If I do get it working I plan on making some good smash video tutorials.

Nah im in PA. In my paper I also go on to talk about how people have met through xbox 360. And how I personally connect with old friend's from when I lived in MD. Halo 4 is good times.

Writing about the smash community was an enormous hit when I was in college, and since competitive gaming is still pretty young (though rapidly growing) it'd probably be a big hit again.


I was once told by a teacher that I should just keep writing about smash bros when I said I was thinking of writing about a different topic. It helps that I did objectively crazy things like sleep at complete strangers' houses because I heard they were good at a video game on the Internet. It's very easy to turn the madness that is the smash bros community into a good story.

The community is a very interesting thing, definitely a great subject to write on. Just don't talk about it subjectively because then you sound creepy.

Maybe see if you can get a sneak preview from Samox's documentary. Even the trailer that's already out is eye-catching enough to make people second-guess what they think they know about professional gaming.
