Hiyo, folks. I know I don't really talk too much here, but I feel that this is one thing that should be brought to our attention. For anyone that doesn't know, there is a podcast around called Sarcastic Gamer. It's basically a podcast about many things having to do with video games as its main focus, and all you have to do is look it up if you want to listen to it.
However, this podcast has now turned its attention toward something that many people can relate to: cancer. On Saturday, October 18th, it's calling for any person available to donate their time to play games for 24 hours. If you can't do it all in one sitting, that's all right; you can make up the time later. You can play any game you like, be it solitare, SSBB, or anything in between, just as long as it's a video game. You can also join or make a team so that you can see how much money you and your friends/family can raise together, as well. You can go ahead and sign up on the website dedicated to Extra Life(http://extralife.sarcasticgamer.com/). I, myself, have signed up, but have done so under another podcast's name that is participating in this event called Limit Break Radio. This one is dedicated to Final Fantasy XI, which brings me to my next point. Even MMOs are counted as games you can play, so it will be all right if you happen to just want to grind the majority of the time away. It's all up to your personal tastes.
If you can't join in, however, that's okay. There's two other ways I feel you can help. One is to instead donate money to the gamers already participating. There are two ways you can donate money, as well.
The first way to do so is to search for a gamer. This will be on the next page after you click the either the really big button in the middle of the page, or the tab "Sign up now!" From there, you should be able to see how you can search for a gamer, and on his/her page you can click a button to donate. The rest is easy from there, though you can only donate money per hour(the lowest being a dollar per hour).
The other way to donate is to do it in an offline form, which requires someone to have signed up and be near you in location for ease's sake. In their profile after logging in, there will be a button titled offline donations. Clicking on that will show all the possible steps to getting a donation to the Texas Children's Hospital, the one receiving the funds. These funds will not only go toward research toward curing pediatric cancer, but also go toward families whose children who otherwise could not afford treatment on their own.
The other thing you can do to help the cause is what I'm doing right now, and that's spreading the word. The more people that get involved, the more money that can be raised for the cause, and the more lives that will be saved.
I know this all is a bit much, so I'll give you a couple of links at the bottom. First is the main page for Extra Life, then my own page for this for donations. From there you should still be able to search for other gamers if you would rather donate to someone else. Thank you for your time.
