Brawl = awesome
X-mas = awesome
X=mas = Lots of Brawl games being sold
therefore if you have Brawl release in December you would literally have too much awesome

They delayed it so that they could release Sonic without having every smashers in the world die from excitement. The delay made them just mad enough that they survived.

it was delayed because sakurai had 2 make sure the wii mote would stop sucking so badly

The top three scenerios I can think of;
1. They are adding a character, and with that extra character takes alot of additional programming and debugging.

2. They found a major glitch or series of glitches, and they are fixing them.

3. (Most likely imo) They underestimated the time it would take for them to de bug the game.
