I just had a funny thought, what if Hilda happens to be one of the DLC characters? Zelda doesn't have the proper alt (and no excuse since Peach has two white ones) and I don't see her spirit anywhere. Sakurai can always troll us and claim she's not an echo fighter like how Roy somehow isn't. I like my Zeldas but the Smash community won't be happy about that one.

Unfortunately Hilda being one of the 5 unique fighters in the season pass would probably anger a lot of people since she'd get in over more popular Zelda characters like Skull Kid or Impa. The season pass will most likely include lots of requested characters and third parties.

I'm still banking on Hilda showing up in a surprise echo DLC though.

As Sari has said, it would anger a lot of people and wouldn’t make sense getting over Skull Kid or Impa. Sadly for Hilda fans.. it’s not a good time because it’s a shame she couldn’t even get an alt representation. Yuga is a spirit tho. But being realistic and with Skull Kid being an AT and not even announced prior (basiacally just posted on the website) I think Hilda just didn’t make it this time.

Unfortunately, Hilda won't be one of the 5 DLC-characters, there is no way. I think out of the remaining Zelda characters Mipha or Impa have the greatest chance (personally I'd really love to see Mipha as a DLC-fighter).
However, I wouldn't give up hope yet. I think it is still possible to get Hilda as an Echo fighter. While she won't be one of the 5 primary DLC-characters, maybe Nintendo also offers Echos or an Echo-bundle additionally, that's still a possibility. Either next year or after we got our 5 DLC-fighters. Let's assume, Spirits deconfirm characters: If Hilda doesn't show up as a Spirit, this could suggest that Nintendo saved her as an DLC-echo. And if Spirits don't deconfirm characters (we don't know this yet), she could for instance be in an Echo fighter bundle alongside with Dixie Kong and Dry Bowser.
There are many possibilities and she isn't 100% deconfirmed yet, I remain cautiously optimistic.

Actually Impa or Mipha would also make me really satisfied. I honestly don’t wanna sound ungrateful because we did get new Zelda designan and items etc but when it comes to characters... we are lacking some variety. We have 3 links, ganondorf, Zelda and shiek (still Zelda although very different). Like as some people said, Sakurai isn’t the biggest Zelda lover and it’s kinda evident in this game.

Looking at the amount of DLC that 4 got, I'm hopeful for a season 2 of DLC. If, as the rumors suggest the current one is all 3rd party, I can see season 2 making use of 1st party characters.

HW Zelda was given a Hilda alt in one of the first DLCs so it's not like she was forgotten.

Still, its not like HW didn't have it's problems with strange character choices already.

There's been rumblings of the new Phantom Thief from Persona 5R being a out of pass DLC Echo for Joker and I'm thinking, why stop there?

Let's see what the Smash Tourney tomorrow and the actual Direct on Tuesday bring us.

I wonder if after BotW 2 they'll remake Link Between Worlds for the Switch.
I guess it depends on what their priorities are.

They've said they intend to have more Zelda games and there's two WiiU remakes that could be worked much quicker first of course.

The last update added a stage using nothing but existing assets. Chances are they won't add an echo but a person with the same Gardevoir avatar for years can dream.

I think we might get BotW 2 Zelda as a full fledged DLC fighter (the final fighter) - I'd totally love to see that. If that's not the case, I'd love to at least see Hilda as a bonus echo fighter so that Zelda gets a little bit more love.

If the Small Battlefield is anything to go by, there could be more free updates coming in the future. I'm sure it didn't take too long to make that stage and I'm even more certain echo fighters don't take too long to make, in the sense of making a character from scratch vs. using a base and changing the overall colors, design and adding a few new animations. This could be Hilda's time to shine. Of course these hypothetical echoes would be free, though I'd happily pay for a whole echo pack.

Well an Echo could be made out of pre-existing models and sound packs. Gooigi for example could just be Luigi with a transparent green skin, some slight jiggle physics, a reverb effect and replacement for his fire attack.

Hilda would need a new model but could get away with reusing Twilight Zelda's vocalisations.

None of this is likely without some need for a "sorry we got super delayed" goodwill thing but it's fun to speculate.
