You never know with Sakurai's ways. For all we know we could get the opening movie at a Q&A, there's no doubt that he'll have several things ready to show us there.

I respectfully disagree with you friend.
R.O.B. may reperesent that, but honestly with the ice climbers coming back, it hasn't been confirmed but they were mentioned in an interview as making problems in the 3ds version and also in the customized move trailer kirby was shown using a move that was oddly similar to the ice climbers freeze breath move, and also their is the polar bear who shows up constantly, doesn't really mean much but added to the other facts it just increases the percentage of their chances to 90 unless they somehow didn't fix that 3DS problem, already represent the NES. On top of that if you have Takamaru in the game, who i am not reaally sure about but he has that Nintendo land game so I think he may be making some sort of comeback, smash would be a good opportunity to do this like how they did for Pit, they really don't need his representation taking a third spot. Sure the NES was obviously important, but 2 for this game is still a lot, they, more importantly, need to advertise their new games since the Wii U is having its sales problems to promote future games success. Also I said in my last post that Game & Watch represents that whole period so I think that what I say somehow means the opposite of this makes no sense. I just think that the Ice Climbers and Possibly Takamaru would be enough, they still need to advertise their new games.

Sakurai wanted to revive an old character as a callback to that era with Ice Clibers and he did it again with Pit in Brawl.
R.O.B. on the other hand was added in the same vein as Mr Game & Watch (Who returned from Melee) to represent the entire NES as a whole, which is why his signature stage in Brawl was Mario Bros, an old game that was on NES that still had its 8-bit appearence, you know, just like the Balloon Fight stage we've seen on the 3DS version.


This is what happening, in Melee, we got a retro rep and a console rep
In Brawl, we got a retro rep and a console rep
In this game, we will most likely get another retro rep and another console rep.

And what your say ing doesn't even make sense for the way you view things.

According to your logic, Brawl had Pit, Ice Climbers and R.O.B.
But Ice Climbers, Takamaru and R.O.B. is too much?

R.O.B. is a conole rep who follow the tradition of a console rep that Mr Game & Watch started.

Cutting R.O.B. doesn't make any sense no matter which way you put it.

Sakurai has already mentioned that he wants to bring back as many characters as possible

I honestly feel as though we are going to get a veteran prior to e3, it would be a very effective way of hyping up Nintendo's portion of e3 along with Smash.

Also does anybody know how they chose who was put in the invitational??? Not that I had some dream of getting in, but I have no idea how they would pick people to invite to something like this where there was no past official competition. They were inviting prominent members of the community; such as Ken, King of Smash. Competitors from previous Smash titles.

All good points, but I still think you're wrong.
First, I get what a consul character is from what you are saying, a character that represents a consul from nintendo's past, ex game and watch- the game and watch systems, ice climbers- the NES. Isn't a retro character a character that would represent an older time from Nintendo's past; the same thing??? What I am saying is that they will cut ROB, not because he isn't unique or important, but because he is pretty much just a fad, just like he was back when the two games it was in came out. Sure he was referenced in all those games, but that stopped after a while, and he hasn't made too many appearances too recently in ways that are important enough to make him suddenly beloved by Nintendo. Back to what I was saying about the retro characters too, Nintendo had more consuls than the NES and game and watch, so why would they just start stacking NES reps until we have too many. If they do follow this pattern then I think they would just move to a new consul like maybe the SNES, or gamecube. Also I am not saying Pit was NES rep, I think he was put in with his fancy new design to test his popularity for a new game, which was just so happened to be made by the creater of SSBB. Lastly if we are going on to quotes Sakurai also said he would not be able to bring back ALL the characters, and apologized in advance for it. SO to sum it up ROB is not insignificant or unoriginal of a character, but in the midst of Nintendo's not so good popularity, lack of new games and a need for new ideas, and inability to spend too much time on characters that will not benefit them in the future, like these retro/consul reps, then with the amount of evidence supporting the return of the Ice Climbers and the lack of it for ROB, however popular he was, I think ROB is the one that Nintendo will end up cutting. If me proving any of this seems to be lacking refer to the previous posts, as I tried not to repeat anything I said from those.

Cutting a character because you think he was a fad when he has been popping up Nintendo games since he was created and still is as shown by Tomodachi Life?

When I mean console rep I mean they are literally represent the sytem, Ice climbers represent their games, hence why we get an Ice Climber stage and Ice Climber Music.

And ther IS arguable evidence suggesting R.O.B. is back, the Balloon Fight stage.

Because R.O.B. IS the NES rep, he would be given a stage that looks identicle to its NES appearence. JUST like in Brawl.

What did Ice Climbers get when they were added? An Ice Climber stage that looks nothing like its NES appearence
What did Pit get (Who IS also the retro character of Brawl) when he was added? A stage that didn't really look like anything from his games.

What did Mr Game & Watch get when he was Added? A stage that looked like you were playing on a Game & Watch
What did R.O.B. get when he was added? A stage that looked like you were playing on an NES. And now we have another stage just like that one. Kinda like how Mr Game & Watch got another stage that looked like you were playing on the G&W

There is no reason you have to cut R.O.B.
There is no reason you have to cut Ice Climbers (beside technical issues that are probably fixed)
There is no reason why this would mean Takamaru can't be playable with them!!

Also, Sakurai has NEVER cut a series entirely.
We have Squirtle, Lucas, Ivysaur, Snake and Wolf who would most likely get lower priority and you have of the confirmed characters, Toon Link and Ike who would have thought get given lower priority.

There is literally NOTHING TO SUGGEST HE WOULD GET CUT!!!!!!!!!!!

People are just making the same mistakes again when they thought Mr Game & Watch would get cut in Melee.

ROB has no reason in hell to be cut, and from what I've gathered, most of the ones that want him cut never really knew who he was and what he did, and thus never even tried him in Brawl (just like the people claiming that Lucas and Wolf were clones).
