who here wants there to be downloadable content in the game. I actually do want that because it would kind of make everybody happy, even if they just did it with 3rd party dso we wouldn't get a "Snake in Melee" kind of thing

that'd be pretty cool, but i don't think that downloadable characters are really feasible. Unless they already have characters they're working on that they don't think will be finished for the release, then I wouldn't bank on it.

Downloadable characters... now that's a touchy subject. If there are characters missing, Brawl would feel incomplete.

I guess it could be cool to have 4 super-special-awesome download-characters. But no more. Too many, and it would just start being cheesy.
And if not for very limited additional cool stuff, the option of downloadable characters must only be used as a last resort in case they are running short on time... but it doesn't seem like that's the case.

Use search. These kind of topics are doomed to be closed.

Download you own characters = haxing = cheating online possibly. Beating a hacker online though is the greatest feeling in the world(counter-strike)

wait I'm talking about purchasing the characters via Wii shop...it seems like a good buisiness move if they just added a character every few months like Marvel Ultimate Alliance has been doing

1) Sakurai would never do that.

2) Sakurai would be assassinated if he tried to do that.

3) That would make it a little difficult for those tournament players wouldn't you think? People without internet access would be without certain characters.

I don't know why he would add a character later in the game. If he wanted to have one in, he would put him/her in when the game is released. The only way I could see him doing this is smash players protesting brawl outside of Nintendo screaming We Want Sonic! We Want Sonic! Other then that I can't see this happening.

I would be more surprised if Brawl didn't have downloadable content than if it did. I mean every shooting game has downloadable maps. MMORPGs offer new classes and areas every year or so. Rock Band is offering a new song every week after it comes out. It's a good business strategy and seriously, who doesn't have Internet? I mean even with 56k you can still download updates it's not like they're going to be huge. A map is like a few MB and a character, I assume, would just be a few hundred MB.

I dont like the idea of this because it could really screw up online play if thats gonna be part of the game and even if its not I'm just not a fan of Brawl having that feature.

I think you're missing the point. Periodically offering downloadable characters and stages offers longetivity to the game? Why do you think they made new maps for Halo 2 over 3 years after it came out? Why did WoW get an expansion pack? They want people to hold onto their copies (since they get no profit when someone buys used copy at a garage sale) and for people to buy it even though their friends have it.

Plus, Sakurai said that he would have put Snake is SSBM if he wasn't that far along. So if Sakurai thinks of a character now he probably couldn't add it. Instead of waiting 5 years for a sequal (Nintendo is the worst company ever when it comes to sequals), I'd rather wait say 3 months to see a new character. Personally, as cool as Snake is, I think Kojima is a hypocrit for making MGS4 a PS3 exclusive yet he's getting advertisement from SSBB, but that's a different argument ;)

I say downloadable characters, but not when it comes out, like every 6 months to a year, but add new stages every few months. Unless of course he meant downloadable characters at game launch, and I say that's stupid and a ripoff.

SSBB if a fighter.

So comparing it to any FPS, MMORPG, RTS, or any of those sorts of games makes no sense. And games have had downloadable maps/content for many years before halo or halo 2.

Not sure what downloading new maps in a FPS has to do with entire characters in a fighter...

good idea if Sakurai runs out of time and can later include them afterwards, but i think it would be unlikely for this to happen

If there is downloadable content, it will probably be new stages, or new character alternate costumes, but characters are something else
plus dont get me started on storage space, where is all this downloads gonna go, eventually your run out of memory on your Wii,
I wish Nintendo can make A harddrive for the Wii

I guess downloadable characters would be alright...but only as a last resort. And dont even get me started about them selling the characters.

i personally believe downloadable content is somthin that should not be included. It wouldn't be fair to those who do not have access to the internet and can ruin the brawl experience for them.

The Wii has unlimited storage space for such updates AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....

Everytime I see this topic spring up it makes me want to scream. SSBB has been in development for a long long long time. If Sakurai wants a character to be added it will be added now and not later on down the line.

I mean I could perhaps agree with maybe a "downloadable balance patch" if needed but not downloadable Characters.

No Internet?!?
I agree with Kirby Knight, except the balance patch would be an automatic download.

I wouldn't mind stage and items, even assist trophies and Pokemon, but not characters.

I don't like the idea of downloadable content...mostly because I don't usually PAY to get online for game systems...

Think about how long it takes to normally update your. Think about how much changes everytime you update. Now think about how long it would take to add an entire character

somewhere along the line people from the gameing community may start makeing there own models and implimentign them into the game... and stuff orrrr sakurai could give us new characters to buy on the wii shop channel so the game never gets old! thatd be cool! (as long as they dont cost much) that way after ur done and have beaten the game u can go and buy a new character then that way if u didnte get acharacter u rly wanted before go out and buy it very nice idea i like it!!! (again if it doesnt cost to much)

It SOUNDS like a good idea, but the execution would be difficult at best. Personally, I'd rather downloadable things such as maybe extra stages, music, costumes, ect. You know, nothing too big, just some extra goodies for players.

I've thought about this may times before. You know how once melee was created, we had to wait until the Wii for the next Smash Bros. game? I believe the reason that they did this was because they felt that if they released another Smash Bros. game for the same hardware, it would basically just be an expansion (new characters, new levels, etc.).

So, I was thinking, just hypothetically, what if a couple of years after Brawl came out, they released a sort of downloadable expansion pack? It wouldn't just be characters in it, there would also be new stages and other stuff. It would all be released at once and all the characters would be balanced. If you didn't have access to the internet, they could sell it on CD. I thinkit would make everyone happy. It probably wouldn't happen, but who knows?

Create-A-Character + Uploading it Online = Wiictory!
I don't want Smash Bros. to become Mugen. that would just make you want to have a character who's standard A can kill someone at 0 damage. make the game a bit annoying too.

EDIT: Miis are fine, though, because there'd probably be a set moveset for them.

Since nobody else did it yet, I'll say that this is actually a pretty good idea.
It's not likely that another big Nintendo console is coming out anytime soon... so an add-on like that seems to be a feasible compromise.
