Yeah, terrific idea. Now Sakurai can become the next George Lucas and never actually finish his game. We'll have to constantly keep up with all of the changes he decides to make every couple of years that he "always wanted to implement but wasn't able to". That way we'll never feel like we have a complete game because it's always being screwed with. Perfect.

We'll see about that... as far as I'm concerned, this will probably be Sakurai's last Smash game, and without Sakurai, it wouldn't quite be Smash... I think he's working as hard as he can to make the game absolutely perfect since it's his final one.
But it wouldn't seem too hard to just add some select things after a bunch of years to keep the game up-to-date and refresh it, while the core game you've played for a long time already by then still feels complete in its own right...
Not to mention it smells like profit, and corporations love profit.

So you're talking about updates spaced every 4-5 years? How many consoles do you think are supported more than say, 10 years after their debut?

So, I was thinking, just hypothetically, what if a couple of years after Brawl came out, they released a sort of downloadable expansion pack? It wouldn't just be characters in it, there would also be new stages and other stuff. It would all be released at once and all the characters would be balanced. If you didn't have access to the internet, they could sell it on CD. I thinkit would make everyone happy. It probably wouldn't happen, but who knows?
That would be brilliant.I actually see something like this happening. Heck, I'll bet money on it.

Its a win-win situation. If Ninty is willing to commit some time and resources to the project (no half-arsed efforts!) then it'll please the veterans, and attract newcomers.

I personally would like to see any characters cut from Melee return (except Pichu and Dr. Mario).

Yeah, that occurred to me a second after I submitted my reply.

well, bump for good idea...

But seriously, could this work? Via Wii Shop Channel, you would be able to buy new characters and add them to Brawl. It would allow characters like Ridley, Ray, Sukapon, Isaac, ect. Awesome, no?

Maybe I'm just in denial...

This is impossible without a hard drive. Even then, it's not the kind of thing Nintendo does. I could possibly see our getting Brawl 2.0 in two years, but I doubt it.

well, brawl does take up 128 spots of memory for what reasons I don't know.

And with all this SD card capabilities I wouldn't say an absolute "No", but I really doubt it unfortunatly.

it would be a wonderful joyous thing if it could happen but it's not going to but new downloadable characters is just one of those dreams we'll never catch.

hey you ****ed psychic psico! you read my mind, i had teh same idea they could release smashbros 3.5, like in 2 yeasr more... something like "Smash Bura X Reload" or "Smash Bura X Slash" or maybe "Smash Bura X Accent Core" (reference anyone? :p)

talking seriuosly, i think taht it's a good idea, wait like two years, then add characters, further luigify the actual "clone characters" balance some character that get to unbalanced, in the meantime also they could ask for the more wanted assist throphies to be me made playable characters, some extra adventures modes, more throphies, stages, items.., stage building options, just.. the same thing but with more everything... and a new nice story (after two years sure SSE will start to get outdated :p)

would be called something like "Smash Bros Brawl, Legacy" and will be known as the major fan service done in VG history...

I would be more surprised if Brawl didn't have downloadable content than if it did.
Technically we already have downloadable custom stages and pics.
I would expect to see things such as trophies, stickers, and new stage builder items.

I sure as hell hope so.

Wouldn't characters like Krystal and K. Rool have shown up as ATs or something by now? I mean their pretty significant to just omit from the game entirely. They might have plans to include them later on as downloadable chars. Heck it would expand Brawl's already awesome amount of replay value.

Obviously, you couldn't store new characters on your Wii because of limited storage space. However, it's possible there would be characters already programmed into the game that would only open up after the downloads...but I really doubt it. There's a better chance that they would make a "Super Smash Bros. Brawl Special Edition" with a few new characters and levels added, then have downloadable content. Of course, it's all just wishful thinking for people like me who still are having a hard time accepting the 35 character roster.

I guess the question right here is how much space is a character going to take up. ShortFuse might have some information on that.

SD Card compatibility shouldn't be an issue since Brawl can already access it for stages. In my opinion, the only thing holding it back is filesize.

There are still rumors floating around about external hard drive support though, to be honest I expect it to happen before long due more and more VC games being released. I doubt anyone wants to have to delete and redownload their games every time they want to play a different one. Sure, it's free to download it again but... it's a hassle.

Seems like a good idea right about now, doesn't it?
Sure does. Someone needs to meet up with Sakurai-san after his speech at the GDC and calmly and politely explain to him that DLC is the way to go. ;)

I sure as hell hope so.

:dizzy:

Two Fox clones and THIS is all that Krystal gets? It doesn't make any sense. (And I'm not even a huge Krystal fan!)

I really hope that DLC comes through. Even if it were just Krystal, K. Rool, Claus / Masked Man, and one other character--an AC character, Sukapon, Midna (with or without Wolf Link, doesn't matter to me), Takamaru, Geno, Bowser Jr., Ridley (even though he's a boss...), etc. The list is so big, that even ONE of those characters would probably change many people's minds about the roster. And don't get me wrong--I will love this game to death with or without DLC; but being able to get Claus in my hands would be absolutely perfect. :bigthumbu

I endorse this idea in the sense that I just want Brawl to be even more perfect. ;)

we already now that new stages will be sent from nintendo. we got that from the share update. however downloadable charcters is possible. if you look at the ripped disc of smash brawl and look at the charcter file sizes they are just below 20mb which would make downloadable charcters more than possible as some n64 games are even greater a file size than this.(however most are about 15mb) so grab ur picket boards n meet me outside smash headquarters.
