as most of you know you can cancel out the down tilt by using another move like jab or fsmash.

one of the things I hated about this was the fact that I couldn't shield after it, but oh was I wrong you can without waiting 50 years to do so.

Down tilt, Dash forward then immediately shield. the effect is a faster down tilt -> shield.

Now is there any useful application for this? I have no clue discuss. >_>;

You can shield after a down tilt. Try holding away or forward then hold shield(while still holding away or forward) after down tilting. No dashing required.

Doesn't work with holding up or down for some reason.

Marth doesn't move at all since the stick is held forward/backward while in the down tilt animation.

With your way does Marth move at all? Maybe I confused something. From your description it seems you have to go into dash animation then shield.

you are moving when you tilt it forward, when you tilt forward you're moving but since you shield its canceled out.

My way you're just dashing forward, which in a way is better, since it can set up a wtf factor. sides it looks cooler and everyone knows if you're going to play marth you have to look cool.

I think he means that you can start the walk animation out of the D-tilt and then shield. If you do it right you should be shielding as soon as you stand up out of the D-tilt. I like Aesir's way better because you can do the sliding shield from the dash and it indead looks way cooler.

Hmm.. I can't think of any real uses to this except for sheilding instead of a jab after you miss a Dtilt. Good find though, I'll try this out.

Only application I've found is if you miss a down tilt and you don't ahve time to say grab them and using another attack wouldn't be a smart idea so you just dash and shield right after. thus giving you more options out of the down tilt.

I guess if they try to take advantage of your missed Dtilt then they'll try and attack you. If you shield first, then you can shieldgrab them I guess.

I'd imagine it would work not a ends all means to the situation but I'd imagine it would create a wtf factor giving you a slight upper hand in that situation.

USE MAGIC!

down tilt, hold forward during the animation, hold shield right after. it will shield the frame the dtilt ends. No movement.

Nice find.

But I think of the down tilt as more of an interrupter, and a quick stun to land an easy tipper fsmash or a launcher if the down tilt is landed. As for edgeguarding...just look at a tourney vid. :p

In other words..it depends, if you land it theres not much use for a shield. If you MISS it, then yes. What kind of person wouldn't love an immediate shield after a missed attack?

I thought this was known already?

I would rather run away and dash dance into something. Stay mobile and all that good stuff.

I just played my bro for a bit and realized some places that the sheild after Dtilt could be useful. When I Dtilted but he jumped and is about to aerial me.. a sheild right there probably would have saved me and gotten him sheildgrabbed.

sometimes dash dancing into something isn't a good idea, since if you miss the down tilt dash forward and shield they'll b elike AHH HES CLOSE *attacks* thus getting a grab.

its not a means to end mind you but it can offer a good mix up.

How about downtilt -> reverse dash -> pivot shield?

Gives you a bit of breathing room, and if they shielded the downtilt, they might be out of grabbing range. You can jump out of your shield with a nair just in case they decide to jump out of their shield and attack you. If the nair misses, follow it up with more downtilt goodness.
