Donkey? Where? I don't see a Donkey.
OHH! Sakurai means Donkey KONG!

I mean, why'd he put "Donkey" , DK would suffice and be so much better. Does this mean Ice Climbers will be "ICE" and Pokemon Trainer will be "Pokemon" ?

This isn't a big deal, but dumb little things like this bug me and I wanted to talk about it.

Donkey is his first name...Pokemon isnt PT's first name, neither is Ice the first name of the Ice Climbers...

Pokemon Trainer will likely appear as Squirtle/ Ivysaur or Charizard so that is a horrible example

o wow i didnt even notice tht...i definitely dont wanna see MR. GAME for mr. g&w. or CAPTAIN for captain falcon lol. owell its not like its the end of the world ya'know.

God new thread are opening up like clock work. Bet Mic is gonna have fun closing all these.

But seriously people the update was awesome but stop making new threads every 5 sec. It's annoying reading about every aspect about one update. Come on.

I've always thought that these face/names things are just place holders to make the screen shots more newb friendly. Because they become more and more intrusive the more I look at them.

Hey I was just saying. You didn't have to make a thread about it. With all the threads opening all at once it's getting a little chaotic here. I didn't mean to come off as being rude but jeez 5 thread talking the same update should be enough. But whatever if your take a comment so serious it's cool. I'm not here to start trouble later.

Japanese version pictures...

once NOA regionalizes it (like they do EVERY SINGLE GAME released in the US) it will probably be just "DK"

Eh, DK could be confused with Diddy Kong by a newcomer to the series, I think referring them to "Donkey" and "Diddy" is fine. I actually hated seeing the abbreviation DK on Melee's selection screen... seemed too lazy and short. Spell out the name peoples!

As for Pokemon Trainer and Captain Falcon, I'm sure the NOA team has enough intelligence to use the more logical shorter versions "Trainer" and "Falcon" rather than "Pokemon" or "Captain". >_>

Regardless, I do find the whole name/image/icon combo a bit too distracting and large, hopefully it'll work better ingame than it does in the screenshots. Or maybe there will be an option to set it between this and "classic", so everyone could win!

On a side note, it seems that the Japanese version of Brawl still uses the English names down there. That's just weird.

I mean Bowser was Koopa in melee, Ice climbers were Ice climber....

EDIT:

Maybe its cuz Diddy Kongs name could be DK too.

That could be true...but then it'd sound better if they just added the KONG for Donkey Kong.
Donkey just sounds wierd considering Donkey's have no relation to apes.

"Donkey" does sound weird, I've always referred to and pictured him as DK.

Saying "Donkey" associates it with donkey from shrek -_-

Do you think that the character portraits with the character's name will be in actual gameplay? I certainly hope not. I love the franchise icon with the little heads of the characters for stock above it.

well, if it said DK, it could be Diddy Kong. so it just says Donkey, and i assume Diddy's will just say Diddy. That way everything's uniform.

so to answer the question, "no." doesn't bother me a bit.

Right when I saw that this morning I cracked up instantly.
I just saw a part of a Futurama episode about Planet Nintendu64 and DK is their ambassador.
Fry sees a TV channel about DK and says, "Hey, I know that guy! His name's Donkey."
Then the Professor says, "Apes aren't donkeys! Stop messing with my head!"

Complete LOL.
