That is true. But barely anyone campaigned for Piranha Plant and to argue it would always be less controversial than a Senran Kagura character would to me be a case of hindsight bias, considering even Bandana Dee got mocked by some people as "Hat Goomba" and he got far more requests than Piranha Plant.
Plant won't have the FBI knocking on your door.

You gotta pay respects to a man who gets straight to the point. Honestly just cover 'em up and they might be fine, unless the amount of boobage is so integral to the character (like Mai) where removing it would do more harm than good.
Though had they intended Mai to have a bigger role than background character they probably would've gone to the effort of giving her a CERO-approved makeover like how they brought da booba twins in line.

I honestly wouldn't have minded, and I don't think people were gonna be upset we lose Mai's important horny manipulation combat strategy for a cameo. Maybe it's a bigger deal for people eastward? Idk man, I still think the complete disclusion is weird.

Is that the book where the penguin's all like "HOW MANY TOES DOES A FISH HAVE?!? HOW MANY WINGS ON A COW?!? I WONDER YUP I WONDER!!!"?

I can't believe I still remember that book after all these years.
I don't think I know what you're talking about. This is The Far Side by Gary Larson. Excellent comic if you can stomach its humor.

Sakurai sits down

"So, what is Senran Kagura?"

Awkward pause

"It's boobs."

"Is this reality?!?"

Yup

But I don't want to think about having to hear this fanbase defend Jonesy.
I'll defend the iconic Fortnite dances just because they are amusingly corny.

That's only because the Plant is a member of the FBI.

I mean...

Isn't Japan just like sushi, sumo, and cherry blossoms....?

How are they weird?

I think one of the giveaway hints was at the title reveal. We know Ceraza and Jeanne are the last 2 umbra witches alive. Bayonetta 1 and 2 was a timeloop of the villian that terroized Bayonetta. Now, if this Ceraza was in fact the girl returned to her own time and grown up with a different attitude, then we got some catching up to do.

Although, one of the biggest mysteries to keep us hanging is this new figure....

At first I thought it was Jeanne in Vergil cosplay, but it could be someone new I guess.

To be honest, SK's stigma definitely comes from the quantity of the fanservice, but in comparison to other games with it (Persona, Xenoblade, Bayonetta, etc) it doesn't actually go any further than those. I still find some of the stuff in XC2 to be more disgusting really.

Are you referring to that bunny lady?

Well, it's a good thing you (probably) haven't seen the spinoffs. As big a fanboy I am, there's a few I'm in no hurry to look into at all.

How are they weird?
Giving a serious answer, they probably aren't all that weird, they just have cultural aspects that we don't understand or agree with (which is kind of par for the course to be honest). I mean, in terms of public perception, we're kind of the weird ones in liking violence, but not promiscuity.

And we give Japan crap for the sexualization of minors but like...have you seen a teen drama? They're probably worse in all honesty and just get away with it because the actors themselves aren't actually minors (which is likely another problem with the genre).

Dhalia makes me uncomfortable...

EDIT: She is a decent (if super basic) character though.

As a certified degenerate, I can tell bait when I see it.

So

ベイト?! ワート? アイ ネヴァ ベイト ノバーディ! アイ アム ァ バフェクト エンジェル! リリー! アイ スウェアー!

My new job is dealing with Japanese language and culture. Half the time I am telling people that Japan is indeed weird and have to explain it why its like that....you can't explain somethings...they are what they are...

I have, that's not really my point. While the fanservice is front and center, there's a reason this series has more entries than most fan favorite Nintendo franchises.

I mean, I don't doubt it sells decently in Japan.

But I feel like the reception it'd get from an American audience is vastly different.

Yeah, it really depends. It has a sizeable audience in the west though, they get localized pretty quickly. But I'd say it has a far larger stigma over here than it most likely does over there.

Yeah, if it comes to pass, I fully expect a noticeable degree of backlash, especially from fans of such widely speculated characters like Crash, Sora, or the Chief.

The hate for the Plant will go away eventually. No one cares about Corrin anymore, they're just in the game now and I've seen more positive opinions on them now than way back years ago when they were the original straw that broke the camel's back for FE oversaturation on the roster.

I'll always hate Fates though free of charge lol
Eh, I still see people clowning on Corrin because they're the target of the oversaturation issue along with being a representative of a controversial game. It has gotten more neutral over the years due to their gameplay winning some people over, but a number of fans have not let go of their disdain for them.

I will never forget walking into my second grade classroom in Japan and seeing one of my sweet girls in that class wearing a black shirt with sparkly pink letters that said "Sexy *****" on it.

That being said, the otaku culture aka the culture that attracts things like Senran Kagura and such has taken quite a moral hit due to high-profile murders and assaults with the perpetrator being a fan of such mediums. Norms are changing over there, I wouldn't be surprised to see a shift in a decade.

Aggretsuko actually touched on that topic, and it did so scarily well. Pretty scary stuff happens when you consider the circumstances.

Not to change the subject, but have any notable leaks or rumors popped up since the Direct? I haven't really been online all day.
