I've been doing more thinking about the 5chan post and how it said that Steve had been prototyped during negotiations (paraphrasing here). Steve's model is very simple, so that makes sense, especially because I just remembered that when Double Helix was working on the new Killer Instinct, to pitch their project plan they straight up remade the KI2 engine in complete prototype form for their pitch. (Source on that is here, timestamped.). While I don't think every game company has the same pre-production phase, it makes sense to me that for an easily-model-able character like Steve that nonetheless had a ton of negotiations and testing to be done, along with such a long dev cycle, they'd do something similar.

Literally scroll two posts up and click the link. I think it explains it well. Again, there is no "hype around Chun-Li", just some potentially interesting discussions about negotiations and the idea that for some of the characters in pass 2 Nintendo is going back to scrapped base game ideas and that this is suddenly relevant, especially with people noticing that it is very, very, very rare for a game to have Ryu and not Chun.

Bison would be sick as hell, though. One of my most-wanted villains.

Chun-Li is an unlikely source of discussion considering speculation usually never discusses about the actual big icons of gaming because they rarely fit the criteria for likely fighters one way or another. Smash speculation is probably the only side of the internet who would actually get shocked if we get characters like Ryu or Chun-li in a game over say Banjo.

I'm bi, and I have to say Sephy is considerably more attractive than the lion's share of the cast, even those who do provoke thirst amongst you lot. Knowing he's killed people in cold blood really does the job on top of everything else. I love me a monster, and I can't help but notice the dire shortage of female villains on the roster, actually. Are there even any? Wendy doesn't really count being an alt.

This is why we need T-elos as a KOS-MOS alt (and by extension KOS-MOS to get in)

KOS-MOS (with a T-elos alt), Crash, Reimu, Ahri or someone from League of Legends, Elma, Octoling aaaaaand Neku with a Rindou (TWEWY NEO) alt

yes Square’s getting a FOURTH rep and I ain’t just saying this as a Square Stan. Sephiroth spared Neku from the Mii massacre and Crono is still MIA from the seven squares list, he may be a costume in Neku’s wave. Pls.

We didn't learn after all these years? Let's just keep it in mind, write it on the side with a sticky note and bring it back when the next reveal might be right.

When a leak get nothing right but Hero about FP1 but suddenly might get all of FP2 right a year later I think it's sus enough to throw it out

Wanting, well with Geno out i would probably ask for bandana dee, lee sin and master chief. Expecting, my guess would be lloyd, rex and ryu hayubusa. although it is an ever changing landscape

Wanting? Dante and Doomguy - I don't really have a clear/stand-out preference for a third now that Geno's no longer an option, but I'd like to see a Zelda character make it in, since it's been roughly 20 years since the last unique one was added to Smash Bros. (the Age of Calamity version of Impa would be my preference, assuming that assist trophies are ruled out)

Expecting? I have no idea - Ryu Hayabusa's the only one that I feel confident about, and he could wind up being left out due to corporate politics or something like that for all I know.

The final fighter reveal trailer... I think it's something you all are not ready for. The budget ran out, so it's an in-game recording with dev tools. Wario is in Fourside, surrounded by cans of soda (food items, those specifically). He's chuckling to himself, and every time he eats one of the items - an iconic tune is briefly heard. He becomes confused, and footsteps are soon heard after the game zooms in on one of the cans...

Man I'd love Tifa. Not even my fave FF girl but at this point if we get another FF character I'm assuming it will be from FFVII, so Tifa would probably be next in line.
And unlike Cloud I actually love Tifa's design from Advent Children, even more than his classic design. The good thing is that seeing how Sakurai likes to reference AC, she would probably get it as an alt:

I'm in a similar position. Chun-Li would be dope but at the same time I'd be somewhat disappointed for not getting a different Capcom series. But to be fair, this was my stance about Square Enix and another Final Fantasy character. Then Sephiroth was announced, and although I felt a bit sad for not getting, IDK, 2B or Neku, Sephiroth is still amazing. So I guess I'd react the same if we get another character from Street Fighter or Mega Man.

Though I never had clear most wanteds for Square Enix, so not having Nier, Bravely or TWEWY in Smash doesn't disappoint me as much as would be not getting a new Capcom series, because I'm a bigger fan of the unrepresented Capcom franchises than the unrepresented SE series.

I have a lot of characters I would like to see playable but the big three are Waluigi, Kratos, and Gordon Freeman. I don't expect any of them to realistically be part of the last three, but I will say they're not completely impossible so that leaves enough room for me to hope they get in.

As for expectations. I'm starting to be doubtful about Capcom but I will say if we get a new fighter my money is on Monster Hunter. I think Namco is completely out, I'm not expecting any fighter from them at all. For Hayabusa the more time passes the more I start losing hope in him making it in, I'll wait until CP9 before I start finding him unlikely. Crash is also someone that I would not expect to make it in if he's still not revealed by CP10. I think Pokemon might actually sneak it's way into the pass, I don't see Nintendo ignoring those 20 million sales and not put an obligatory gen 8 shillmon, quite possibly as the last pack of the pass. Jonesy could also be part of the pass, I think people are making a mistake by disregarding Fortnite just because it didn't get revealed for the game awards, everything from that one leak turned out to be true and if anyone remembers it's the leak where an Epic Games director declined to comment on Smash Bross. Sure, his refusal to comment might mean nothing, but it also could mean something :p

This is a good time to share a hot take.

I get that Chun Li is iconic. She is a very important female character and character in general as she always appears alongside Ryu in crossovers. SF2 is a quintessential fighting game and one of the most iconic games of all time. I get that Chun Li would be a big deal and deserves a spot on the roster.

But I'm going to say that I would be disappointed if she gets in. Not just because I'm not a big Street Fighter fan, but also because Street Fighter already has plenty of content. 2 characters, a stage, 36 music tracks, and a ton of spirits. So It's not like it's starving for content like FF was. What about all of the other Capcom series that have zero representation? Ace Attorney, Devil May Cry, Ghosts n Goblins, Dead Rising, Okami, Final Fight, etc. I would much rather give one of those series a challenger pack than a series that already has plentiful content. It would just feel like a big missed opportunity you know? This is supposed to be the biggest crossover of all time. Why not give other franchises a shot?

Other than someone once arguing that Lucina was a villain (why I will never know), no.

Honestly, I can't really think of a major female villain. There's like...The Ender Dragon? I guess?

As far as characters from existing franchises (that I know enough to list characters from) there's:
  • Mother Brain, but she's not really a viable pick unless we were to go with MB which is...an idea.
  • Kirby has Suzie and The Mage Sisters. That sounds like a rock band.
  • Lusamine is probably the best villain in the Pokémon franchise...until they chickened out and rewrote the ending scenes in the ultra versions.
  • Lots of people would like to see Medusa playable.
  • Splash Woman...exists.
  • The Dark Lord can steal the face of a woman. Not really sure if that makes it a girl or...
  • Gruntilda would be interesting as a fighter.
  • Dr. Coyle is the one with the highest likelihood of being added somewhere down the line. She would be pretty fun too.

I don't think it's a hot take at all. I agree with you.

I wouldn't be mad if Chun-Li gets in, though. I'd appreciate and enjoy her inclusion a lot. This and wanting other unrepresented series from Capcom to get in before her isn't incompatible.

I'd rather have Dante, Morrigan, Amaterasu, Monster Hunter or Phoenix Wright first. But if Nintendo goes with Chun-Li I'd gladly accept it (not like I have much of a choice anyways lol) because she would be a neat addition regardless of her being a 3rd SF character.

as the kirby lore expert, the mage sisters are no longer villains. and Susie saves the universe at the same time as enslaving planets so i think she is an anti-hero.
