One more thing to say about Snake. If you go visit the thread, one of our awesome supporters posted a video of the live audio in reaction to the Brawl reveal trailer. Guess who got the most applause?

It wasn't Meta Knight. It wasn't Pit. It wasn't Zero Suit Samus. It wasn't Wario.

It was a character that many people now say "doesn't fit" is "too violent" "isn't Nintendo", or whatever they think. Solid Snake. Solid ****ing Snake got the most cheering and applause. Even Sakurai addressed this in one of the translations from source gaming.

Snake being in Smash made fans FREAK OUT. Was it partially because he was the first 3rd party in Smash? Probably. But he still got more applause than even Wario. The announcement of the game itself even!

Everytime I see Brawl's trailer, I'm always reminded of how underwhelming Smash 4's newcomers were in comparison. (They're not bad by any means. Just underwhelming.)

Eh, not (entirely) Sakurai's fault. I mean, when the previous game introduces so many super stars, it's only normal that you'll start to grasp the """"bottom of the barrel""" in the next game. Though Mac, Jr. and the third-parties were pretty good even compared to Brawl newcomers, and the return of Mewtwo and Roy was pretty hype-worthy as well.

The Newcomers in this installment lack "StarPower", as such, we have to rely on something else.

True. Smash 4 was the only time I felt underwhelmed with the roster and I wasn't excited about the game until it came out.

@Speedwagon I believe those 2 files are placeholders because theirs a Fighter Pack with 4 characters labelled "Fighter Pack #1" showing that were going to get another 4 characters, most likely in November and December.

Eh, not (entirely) Sakurai's fault. I mean, when the previous game introduces so many super stars, it's only normal that you'll start to grasp the """"bottom of the barrel""" in the next game. Though Mac, Jr. and the third-parties were pretty good even compared to Brawl newcomers, and the return of Mewtwo and Roy was pretty hype-worthy as well.

Understandable. Smash 4 did bring some pretty kickass newcomers (Robin, Greninja, Mega Man, etc.), and Roy, Mewtwo, and Lucas coming back was REALLY cool. I'm merely saying that when the previous game gave us the likes of Pit, Meta Knight, Wolf, Sonic, and freaking Snake, and then the best they can come up with for the next game is WFT, Rosalina, and Duck Hunt of all things, you can't help but feel a little dissappointed.

You mentioned that we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for characters or at least starting to, all I can say is that you'd be about half right. While most of Nintendo's best are already in the new Smash, the company still has a lot of other characters with a lot of potential (like Ridley and K. Rool to name a few) under their belt that could have been, possibly should have been, in these games as playable characters but they aren't. Nintendo still have great characters they can use and I hope I can see them playable at some point. I just hope Sakurai and Nintendo don't put these characters on the side in favor of more oddball choices like they kinda did with Smash 4.

That doesn't matter, @PushDustIn pointed out that the 4 Fighter Pack thing is only in America.

In Japan it's labeled differently. (apparently there was a Fighter Pack which only had Mewtwo)

The game itself may have star power and yet no one seriously suggested the Wii Fit Trainer as a playable character.

To compare with Duck Hunt... the game itself has star power and many people, including myself, seriously suggested the Duck Hunt Dog as a playable character for over 10 years.

And speaking for myself, I like Wii Fit Trainer in Smash. She is pretty fun.

Unrelated note but I love how Rest kills things but teleport doesn't even hurt anyone. This wishy washy accuracy and inaccuracy gets on my nerves.

Also I love calculator code, background sprites , and toys can be characters. But villains are out of the question or misrepresented.

Having not even a tiny scrap off which to speculate is so boring. I mean, this isn't the worst date speculation I've ever seen (someone tried to guess when a singer would release her next album by the phases of the moon ) but it's so dull. We're just clutching at any nearby dates to try and make sense of this unpredictable world we live in. Can they throw us a bone or something here?

Snake only fit with Brawl's artstyle, he doesn't really fit with Sm4sh's visuals at all really. Snake never fit with Nintendo, he is a true Sony character. The only reason Snake was in Brawl in the first place was a jokey request to Sakurai. The dream is over.

Kirby massacres entire fields of creatures by eating them and wearing their flesh.
Mario is mass murder, who sinks the leaders of nations into pools of lava.
Villager is politician.
Nintendo games are messed up, far more mature at times than your common shoot em up.

Mario isn't always about coins, cakes, and rainbows. There is a stage on Super Mario World where you have to sacrifice Yoshi to get to that secret stage called "Soda Lake."
