lolwut? Heracross, ninjask, forretress, and Scizor are some of the best non-legendary pokemon. and ten fighting pokemon? there's 26. http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/fighting.shtml

certain types are good for certain things. Steal has the most resistances and grass has the most super effective against it. . Ice is arguably the best attacking move, but fighting deals the most super effective and not very effective moves. dragon has the least amount of super effective and not very effective moves against it, and it deals the least amount of super effective and not very effective moves.

electric is good defense-wise but sucks offensively.
