The fact that it was done against Cactuar and how Darkrain read him so perfectly is why it's such a big deal.

i guess that makes more sence as to why its awesome, but as a combo itself its not that awesome. scar almost had a super **** combo on m2k at the end of his combo vid but he got gayed at the end =/

A lot was on the line too, $1600 dollars and he was losing the set and the match was pretty much tied. Everyone (130 people) in the room was watching on a big projection screen and everything was executed perfectly.

That's why it was (and why the named Darkrain combos) are a big deal, because they were done at such pivotal and important times of the biggest tournies in the nation. Scar does good combos yes, but Darkrain is the grandfather of Falcon combos, and consistently combos the top name pros from 0-death in high stress matches.

Scar is good too, but this isn't about Scar's combos, it's about Darkrain's combo. And I notice this is getting to be a regional falcon debate, so let's just agree that Darkain and Scar both do good combos.

Darkrain's combos are much more impressive to me for reasons that go beyond just hitting the person over and over and what situation they were done in.

lol Darkrain is undeniably far more consistently **** and is my current inspiration, and has been for a long time (Darkrain fanboy). His combos are absurd, and my combo style is not very traditional so some of the things I do you've never seen before, but a lot of the time it's against BAD DI, Darkrain combos the hell out of people with incredible DI.

After watching him and with a bit of Cactus help I learned a lot about Darkrain's style and am currently infusing it into mine. In short Darkrain's combos are way better than mine but I'm stealing his stuff so mine can eventually compare.

The thing about darkrain combos is, if he's playing well, you can't escape. As soon as you get hit you're doing your best to hopefully not die before you next touch the ground.

that clears it up. the word combo brings to my mind a string of moves with the opponent not touching the ground, not tech chasing someone in between moves. but i guess if thats what its called then alright

Standard fighting game combos are inescapeable sequences of attacks, not allowing you time to move or react.

Smash is not a standard fighting game. There are "sequential hits" that we refer to as autocombos, but generally, combos are a string of attacks that, when done properly, cover the options of the opponent and leaves them with as little opportunity to escape as possible. Just because you are in the air, doesn't mean you can't escape. If you land and tech roll, you are very limited in your options, and if your opponent is fast enough, you actually have no time to escape.

Player styles can shift the definition of a combo as well. Most of the competitive community would agree that I have very little combo ability. The reason for this stems from the way my style pressures an opponent and creates strings of setups that lead into other setups almost seamlessly. Scar could probably watch me play someone else and predict when I am going to land a hit just from the way I shield pressure or move around that person in a given situation. These setups are nearly guaranteed, and usually lead into other setups that are nearly inescapeable. Loosely changing my previous definition, my style is in fact extremely combo heavy, but not in a conventional way.

I don't have a traditional Fox, and I don't try to kill off the top in most cases. Honestly, I kinda went DL64 on random. I thought Darkrain was going to pick it Round 3 after losing R2, but ended up going back to FD, so I figured I would pick it for him.
