SO i was talking to one of my friends today who's quite a better smasher than me. He said he learned all of his techniques from watching pro vids. But me i learned from reading guides and applying.

so my question is what is better?

Watching Pro-Vids

or

Guide and apply?

You need a good balance of both.

You tend to see pros applying what you read in the guides, and much much more. Once you have a really deep understanding of the game, you realize a lot of small things in videos that you usually miss. Like why a certain person used a certain move at that time, as opposed to one you would've used yourself in that situation.

But the same thing goes for reviewing guides. You realize a lot of things once you get to a certain level, and re-reading the guide solidifies your game.

I don't know, I'm babbling, but really, it's a harmonious combination of both. I just happen to watch more videos than read guides. Besides, Our Falcon guides are outdated, and no one is gonna take the time to re-write one anytime soon with Brawl coming closer.

No harm in reading the guides though. Served as a basis for me, then I went to the vids. The most important thing though, is actual experience.

It really all comes down 2 playing, just because u watched something doesnt mean your gonna be good at it.And just because you read about it,it doesnt mean ur gonna be able to do it any better. But i think watching pros is the way to go.You can learn many different ways to fight different characters the ways pros would do it,and u can maybe use the same technique or you can use some of the technique they use and then u apply whatever else u think should be done.I hope this helped somehow >.<.

wars not make one great
both help, but for me watching the vids is more effective because you actually see what to do after each successful L-canceled attack. isai and darkrain are the two best c falcon's in the world so look them up on youtube and watch their vids. after a while you start trying their combos out in your matches and before you know it you can pull them off consistently.

this might be true to some and false to others... but i've been playing at a competitive lvl for about 2 years, im considered a top falcon in my state. I found that yes, you get good by playing, watching vids, watching pros etc... but you really advance your game by playing pros/semi-pros. to some this is impossible, to others its attainable. I play col bol/dop/skratch/shiz wiz/QDVS/Linguini on a regular basis. I really couldn't have made it this far with out them. These are all top playing in the state, and they really help me become a overall all good smasher. so find the best ppl around your area and ask for friendlies/ training. that is what pays off in the end.
