counterpicking random characters

A lot of the time when you win the first game at a tourney, your opponent will choose a counter against your character so they will have a much better chance. The element of randomness would not allow your opponent to CP a char against you. (with an exception of MK of course)

Is it even allowed to pick random as a character?

If so then could it be useful if you were experienced with all the characters?

sure it's allowed

and also, char selection is officially supposed to be double blind, if you really care about that kind of thing

He's not talking about the first match, he's talking about what to do once you've won the first match, to negate the opponents advantage of counterpicking

This would be quite funny, in my first melee tournament, I just picked random throughout the whole thing and I got through pools by just playing the characters how I would have done in brawl lol, so it might work, but you've gotta cover all your bases and be skilled enough with everyone, and know each characters matchups against everyother character.
Sounds like effort to me :ohwell:

the second part was a separate point (hence, "also")

if you can random for game 1, there's no reason you can't random for game 2 or 3

lol i would do that but what happens if they pick a counter for a charachter you pick random and you still get the same guy you were and he then has your counter anyway lol.

The closest would be Ninja Link, and I thiiiiiiink Havokk. I think in both cases they just used a lot of characters and generally chose different characters a lot. Not sure how often either of them actually chose random.

Hylian played a ****-ton of characters for a while, but it eventually got to him and now he is focusing more on Primary/secondary...

Also, can you do this with stages? Could I CP random?

*Goes to ask TO*

I actually did a tourney where if you lose you can CP random stage and then the opponent (winner) was not allowed to change characters and you could.

I don't want to be too negative but there's really not a hope of this working...you can easily get a bad matchup or even just a character whose style you can't handle or don't know enough about. >_>
