Could this be the True Character roster (COUNT)

well i've been on other forums trying to get this baby around but this is my present for the people out in the brawl forums and to all of the fans, If this hasn't gotten around here it is anyways, I was bored oneday and i watched a youtube vid, and i took a picture of when this guy was playing the demo, And i wondered, Why are the character boxes have so much space on the side >_>..Well as it looks its hard to say if they will go all the way to 42, But i'm guessing most of you will say around 30 but who knows- So anyways TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK ;o,

Ok let me add that this is not the TRUE picture of the roster this is just a assumption, And all of the character boxes are not the same size, Also this is just the (COUNT),

Your using flawed logic based on the Demo, the character select images will probably be resized or something

You DO know that that was only the Demo screen. They can easily change the size, format... Hell, they could make the whole screen Pink with Yellow Pokadots.

well....42 is a reasonable number...
and it does fit snugly.
it is a possibility but remember, that was from the demo, alot can change over time from that. so I wont ride my hopes on 42, I personaly hope we get around 45 characters.

anyway.. The boxes could end up being bigger or small.. changing it totally, or they may surprise us with something new.

I think the Director said it best there is no way you can base it off a demo. For all we know they can make the character squares smaller or have a 2nd page or characters of something like that. There are many possibilities and changes they can make before it's final release.

however i think in terms of layout they wouldn't put characters slots next to where the character shows up in the chosen slot... if that makes sense.

it IS just the demo.
but kudos for thinking about that.

I doubt there would be a second page considering that may interfere with other players selecting characters. there will probably be only one page and there is the distinct possibility that is the set up, but I doubt it as well. the boxes will probably shrick to fit the number of characters properly.

You can't just try to guess a number of character off of a demo character selection screen. They can easily be resized and have a different format, remember it's only a demo.

Keep in mind that this game is playable in 4:3 - that screen shot is widescreen, and unless the arrangement of characters is significantly different on 4:3 vs. 16:9, there will be extra space on the sides in widescreen.

I highly doubt that your picture tells us much, given how snugly it fits on widescreen. If it fit on 4:3 maybe it'd be more plausible. We have no way of knowing how the 4:3 and 16:9 char select screens will differ (just extra space on the sides in widescreen, or larger boxes arranged differently?), so we don't know what we can extrapolate from 16:9 screen shots. We also don't know if the character's boxes will remain the same size no matter how many characters are unlocked, whether the four spots showing the selected characters are in their final sizes, etc.

But I think it's safe to say that your picture sets an upper limit for the number of characters they can fit. If 41 (you have one too many on the line with Sonic) fits that snugly on widescreen, it's probably gotta be lower than that for it to fit nicely on 4:3. So probably somewhere in the 30s (adding in Pkmn Trainer, ZSS and such, the total number of unique movesets could be closer to 40).

Guessing the roster size reminds me of guessing the amount of snow just before a snowstorm when I was a kid. Over a certain amount and we got a snow day. Over 35 characters and I get my own "snow day."

Some of those boxes are odd shaped, I think even with that layout you are only looking at 38 characters.

I think the character select will be very different in the main game though. I mean, look at the stage select, do you expect them to do anything like that in the game? If so, we will have pages of stages since they will only fit maybe 9 or 12 per screen. Melee had what, 29? Brawl can be assumed to have more so that would be three pages of stages at the least. I doubt it will work in "pages."

For the last time, you can't possibly think that the roster shown on the demo is the same as the real roster. Yes, it MAY be, but it's most likely NOT. Even if it was, working out the full roster is not "Oh, lets fill EVERY AVAILABLE SPACE with a character, because that's how the professionals would do it".
