Does anyone know the fastest way to break in a GC controller?
Because my old controller that was broken in doesn't work anymore

Years of play.

Or be really technical with Fox. Personally, I know people like having their controller in a certain feel, but I like my controller crisp and snappy. Like new, I guess.

i'd actually caution you against just smacking your controller randomly to try to break it in lol

not only is there a big chance you can break it in in a random way that you don't want to,

but "breaking in" a controller is as much you learning to play on IT than changing it to suit your SSBM needs. so really just playing with it is the best way, in my opinion. :)

Haha I hear that! I've had to super glue my joystick rubber back on soooo many times... I've even had to replace the c-stick because I had worn the rubber down completely on all sides.

But for breaking it in, you should probably just play a lot. I've heard of some people using a rubber band or something to keep R pressed in when they're not playing if they feel the spring is too strong lol

The rubber grip on the control stick keeps ripping off for me. My first controller lost the grip completely, so every time I play with that one I get a blister. :( Then my silver wireless's control stick stopped staying in neutral; whenever I move it, it doesn't snap back to neutral anymore, so even aiming and selecting a character is weird now. Also, I can't wavedash/do anything technical on that controller because of it (sucks because it's the only one that has a grip.

Then I had a 3rd party controller (brandless) that lost its control stick grip as well (because of hallmates).

The one I play now is starting to rip as well. :(

Sonic Riders.

You have to spin that control stick for like half the race lol.

Personally, I like a snappy control stick with worn buttons that aren't stiff. Unfortunately, my buttons always break in far slower than my stick because I dash around a lot.

just get used to not having a grip. I have a slight callus on my thumb but I feel like I get more precision... idk I flick the stick a lot for pivots which involves letting the stick go, and it's easier to get back on a flatter, smaller stick head.

Yeah, I mean I can play on it without the grip and do everything just fine. It just kinda hurts and I would rather not. That said, I'll take a grip-less over one that isn't centered any day. It's not that it doesn't have a grip that bothers me, rather it's the fact that I'm actually destroying them. I mean, what's the next thing that'll happen? Shoulder buttons getting locked? Whole stick breaking? Idk Maybe I just play too hard on them.

The triggers are "broken in" by the amount of wear on the circular rubber stopper thats inside the controller. You only have to open the shell, not deal with the area in which the springs are located in the triggers.

Simply make a slit around the inner circle until it feels right, or you can stretch it to soften it up. When ur triggers dont click it actually just means you ripped the rubber part or its lost elasticity. Eventually you will get triggz that just throw up shield if you dont hit them all the way, this is fixed by changing the rubber stopper.

the control stick is usually just from hard circular motions. I recommend taking it apart taking off the control stick(just pull it off) and rotate the lil nub thats left. You pretty much use the full range when the control stick is off and dont have to worry about grinding anything in the process. rotate in both directions, and also some hard left right up down, diag movements.

Its not perfect but it will def speed up the process.
