I don't know much about conspiracies or anything but I say those so called "theorists" are just a bunch of obsessed, propaganda brainwashed crazies.

For example

Some people think that america's HAARP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Frequency_Active_Auroral_Research_Program) is behind the earthquakes in china because america is working on a top secret laser that takes the form of a rainbow shifting the earths plates.

Really...?

What's the hall's take on this?

Some conspiracy theories are sensible, and it's reasonable to have conspiracies at times. I mean, do you really think we're told everything that goes on? No, not really, so we're left to make our own judgments and assumptions. On the other hand, some of them (like that one) are just stupid.
Not much more to say on the topic.

To add to what Firus said, a lot of conspiracy theories are just... dumb. To give an example, let's take Loose Change. It's filled with a bunch of falsehoods that took Popular Science one day to disprove. Not only that, but there's a major logical fallacy in the Government killing hundreds of their own people.

Don't take this the wrong way though. Conspiracy theories have been proven true before. I hate to list Wikipedia as a source, but it's article on conspiracies is probably one of the best general overviews of them out there. Read it if your interested.

There are some theories that are very far fetched but I myself enjoy hearing some of them, UFO's are covered up to no end but with evidence I've seen I think its selfish to think we are the only intelligent life forms in the universe.

Haha?

You mean the ones with a tiny spec of light in a shaky video? You can't possibly consider that credible?

It's probable imo, with recent understanding on the durablility of life and discovery of many new planets and more, that some other life forms do exist somewhere else. However, the chances of any other life being intelligent enough to travel thousands or more light years, existing at the same time as us, and managing to find earth amid the billions of other places to look are astronomically (haha) small.

We are not the only form of intelligent life in the universe, but we don't have fully credible evidence of a "UFO." All the videos are way too blurry, and that's not a coincidence.

Anything and everything that's been presented about "UFO's" is ridiculous and just plain dumb. Do you really think that all alien forms of transportation are saucer-shaped?

And don't you think that if other life was able to contact us by now that they would have actually done it instead of just appearing in small hick towns and isolated areas? Do you really think they'd be that incompetent?

Most of that is just for stirring up interest in backwater towns that want publicity. That and the fact that people have WAY too much time on their hands and nothing productive to do.

Other life has existed and will exist again. Maybe not in the same lifetime of the Earth, but we're not the sole residents of the universe.

I think Conspiracy theories are just a load of crap. They're just ridiculous stories meant to make more money for the media.

Conspiracy theories aren't a load of crap, Watergate started as a conspiracy theory it's the content that you need to look at, if the facts in the theory check out why not believe it?

I think they're a really good medium to get people to think and investigate on their own, and draw their own conclusions on how the world works. I know after I watched Zietguist I investigated everything the movie touched upon and found out it was a load of crap. They give you a the chance to question authority which is always good.

They're also really good to draw inspiration from when writting short stories.

Alright, I'm talking about conspiracy theories in general. Some may be true but others are just silly. And they may nspire creativity and imagination, but It's not necessarily true. It's more like lateral thinking.

I would say it really depends on what conspiracy theory we're talking about. I think a healthy wariness of the government is acceptable, but when we start talking about bigfoot and people being abducted by aliens, that's when it gets ridiculous.

Your entire post consisted of generalizations. And all generalizations are false if you didnt realize that that too was a generalization to illustrate a point your duller than i thought

Not "everything" presented about aliens are portrayed as saucers. What if those alien species were similar to us, in that they're just now developing their space travel. Look at the **** we send to mars. I've made better robots than that. Your being close-minded. Maybe the fact that all YOU see is the famous blurry homemade movie featuring the flying saucer indicates something. I'm not saying every instance of "alien encounters" are true. I believe maybe only 0.04% of those stories are true, but many of them have evidence to back it up.

The part where you posted that you've made better robots than NASA is the part where I realized I probably shouldn't dignify your idiocy with a response.

Moving away from grammar and building better robots than NASA...

I'd say 99% of these theories are false, even if they appear to have evidence backing them up. The Patterson footage for instance, people thought that was real for a long time, until a man who claimed he dressed up as the big foot in the film came foward and confessed. Even if the man is lying, many scientists have analyzed the footage and determined that either it was a man or the film was too poor quality to determine. (Note: These facts are from memory, and it's possible they are wrong, don't kill me if I am)

However, this does not mean that none of these theories is incorrect, but IMO its like finding a needle in a haystack if you will pardon the hackneyed phrase.

No they don't. Show evidence for this claim.

What do you mean? Your post doesn't make any sense. What theories are you referring to, and what media are you referring to that make money off of conspiracy theories?

Mythbusters just did a fantastic job of debunking all of the most prominent Moon landing myths.

You can watch the entire episode HERE in streaming DivX.

A quick guide to Ninjavideo - you must have the latest version of DivX, that's easily remedied... you must also have the Ninjavideo helper applet open, just click the link at the top of the page and accept it.

Watch and enjoy :)

Saw that last night. Where, exactly, do conspiracy theories come from to begin with? I mean, who was the guy who watch the moon landing video and the first thing he thought of was "Fake."

Well anyone who thought space travel was impossible of course. Its really not that unreasonable to think of people coming up with conspiracy theories. Of course I am sure that they dont really tend to start out as elaborate.
